Hawthorn has made a late change to its side ahead of its Round 7 clash with Melbourne.

Jaeger O’Meara comes out of the side with knee soreness, and will be replaced by Will Langford.

GM- Football Operations Jason Burt said O’Meara was still not feeling 100% following the Hawks’ loss to St Kilda last week.

“Jaeger was feeling great going into last week’s clash but unfortunately, despite us giving him every opportunity to get up for today’s match, he still has some soreness around his knee,” said Burt.

“Fortunately, the irritation is still in relation to the knock he received in Round 2 and separate from the problems Jaeger has faced in the past.

“We have said all along, given his history, we will take a cautious approach.

“We are hopeful the soreness will settle relatively quickly and then it will be about ensuring that Jaeger has a solid block of conditioning before he comes back into the side.

“Both Jaeger and the club want to ensure that he is feeling 100% for a period of time before he returns to senior football.

“We have absolute confidence that Jaeger will play consistent, sustained football for the Hawks.

“We want to ensure that he steps onto the field with that same confidence, and that means giving him the time to get a solid block of training and conditioning under his belt before he returns again.”

This press release basically means he's cactus for the year, why doesn't the club just say it? So many smoke and mirrors, they sound like they're taking the piss out of the supporters.

We understand JOM will need time, we know there needs to be patience but quit the deflection of saying it has nothing to do with his patella and that this is totally unrelated. He is on ice for the year, his knee is worst than we thought and we need to work towards jags being fit for 2018, just put all the innuendo and speculation to rest.

Doesn't sound like he will be back for a while reading the last part of that article.

I just seen a big truck pull out at Waverley loaded to the hilt with cows, sheep, chickens, a tractor, & a GOAT..... lol

The JOM trade is looking more and more like our John Pitura moment.

He wasn't even expected to play in 2017. We all knew this was going to be a trade for the long term, so it can only be judged in the long term. Judging it now is pointless and frustrating for both those making the negative judgements (who support Hawthorn) and those forced to listen to it.

Even up to two years after Burgoyne was traded to us there was constant bashing about how we'd made a mistake, perhaps most prominent when he missed the start of the season. He turned out pretty well, and was much older than Jaegar. Just give it time.

The club has operated like this for a decade. Why change now? :drunk:

Was expecting the late out given the comments yesterday but it's all a bit amateur hour with his handling at the moment.

"We will be ultra cautious with jom"
The pick him whilst sore and expect him to get up. Make a late change and flag that he won't play for a while until he get a "solid block" of conditioning?
