Picking apart the last 2 mins:

2:00 to go: Ball at half back. Wines picks out a Carlton player with a terrible handball. Almost gifting Carlton the win.
1:57 to go: The shot falls short. Butters marks on the line. Saving us a goal and the game.
1:48 to go: We work our way to the other side of the ground.
1:21 to go: Ball at the top of the goal square. Marshall misses an absolute sitter. Carlton with the ball and work their way up the wing.
0:42 to go: Big pack mark by Jonas gets us the ball back.
0:31 to go: Butters on the wing gets the ball short via Ladhams and then kicks to a pack at half forward.
0:24 to go: Ball spills to Mayes out wide and he has the composure to chip inside to a leading Gray.
After the siren: Robbie Gray lines up for goal 45m out on the boundary and the rest is history.

Jonas - absolute beast and unlike others in recent years has grown as the responsibility of sole captain was thrust upon his shoulders. Great leader and having a great season.

Credit were it’s due, Tom Jonas looks a fantastic leader. He got punched in the face taking a mark (by a guy not looking at the ball I might add) and hit the deck hard. In that second I thought he would be done for the day but he immediately dusted himself off. Even when Matthew Nicholls chose to pay a soft, less than 50:50, block over a blatant fist to the face he just gave the ball back and got on with business.

Big pack mark in the dying seconds to set up the final scoring chain too.

Butters composure with the ball on the wing in the last quarter was amazing. He would’ve known there wasn’t much time left but he showed the composure to not just bomb the ball as soon as got and waited to he saw a position he could kick into our advantage.
who'd have thought last year that out of duursma, rozee and butters; butters could end up being the best of them?

Watching the game again on 7 on 12 hour delay and saw that absurd free given against Marshall at the start of the third where the Blues player went for the hanger on him, kneed him in the ribs and was given the free by Nosferatu Nichols because Marshall goloobled him.

it was funny that lynch(? i think) actually called an umpiring mistake out for once by saying that it was a free kick against marshall for getting kneed in the ribs

Well done Port. By far the best team we have come up against and we've come up against Richmond, Geelong, Essendon, St Kilda and Dogs.

Whilst we have lost 3 other games and we just missed out on this one, with all the other 3, I believe we were the better team for the majority of the game and came unstuck in one quarter that cost us.

However, here, I felt we were just trying to keep up all day.

You had physicality, skill, monster forward, pre-arranged tactics, original game plan and a change in game plan. It was just a fantastic output.

Your young ruckman was immense in the first half. Pittonet has gone up and held his own against all that came before him before this game.

Whilst absolutely gutted to lost it and would have been over the moon should we have held on, the truth is, this was our least deserve game so far this year (and we were not too bad either).

I'm not wishing to pour cold water on what was a tremendous fighting win, BUT we have to get some size into the backline, particularly against the likes of brisvegas, and going by what I saw from him today Ladhams could be our saviour for the key outer defensive post, he is extremely athletic for a bloke his size and the big plus is he regularly finds the footy.

Our ruck stocks are fine with Lycett's Brogan like take no prisoners mongrel, and Hayes waiting in the wings to supply the Lade style deft touch.

Get it done kern, you know you want to! ;)

We all know how talented Butters is. On top of that is his running capacity. That goal saving mark in the goal square was just one example. A lot of Port players looked dead on their feet in the last quarter. But not Butters. Looked fresh as a daisy, well relatively

Carlton fans feeling robbed by umpires.. I mean, could you imagine the uproar if they copped some of the games we have from the umpiring fraternity against them in the past.
I understand them perfectly. Its easy to feel that you've copped the rough end from the umpires when the commentators are searching for frees to your team in every contest, and constantly talking about how you were unlucky not to get that one.

Meanwhile also not mentioning everything that you've gotten away with.

Yes, I don't think we match up well with Brisbane at all. I'm not sure how we deal with them except pray for rain
