It’s funny all the talk about us being in the same position last year like they are expecting us to do the same thing. Not many teams that “surprisingly” make the 8 didn’t show something the year before, the pies last year the only ones that come to mind. I expect us to win well tonight, l have put 10 goals in the tipping but off the 5 day break and the way we are being managed this year there’s every chance we are 5 goals up at 3/4 time and no one scores in the last qtr.

Go us.

I don’t think In hindsight that Collingwood was surprising, everyone hates Collingwood so we’re quick to write them off after one bad year (had a lot of injuries and probably a lot of players tired of Buckley)
But a team that had won finals 4 years in a row prior to that poor season bounced back.

Pendlebury
Sidebottom
Degoey
Maynard
Crisp
Adams
Howe
Mihocek
Cox
All still there from a grand final team.
Add in Moore and the daicos boys since.

But I digress…

Saints by 10 goals.

That is very good. No more travelling to SA, no more selling of our home games for some coin, come on down to Marvel and feel the squeeeeeeeeeze.

Yeah, the narrative around Collingwood is based largely on that one bad year where they were injured as hell and then lost several players to their salary issues.
The reality is that they are a reasonably older side now with a demographic that puts them in the contending window. They are backed in by an older brigade that is still playing very good football and some surprise young players in Daicos/Ginneven for example.

We dont have the same level of veterans playing good football but at the moment our kids are fortunately showing a lot.

St Kilda historically v Port Adelaide:

With Ross Lyon as coach: 4-3
With Stan Alves or Tim Watson as coach: 5-0
With anyone else as coach: 2-20 (wins 2006 & 2020)
We usually play them over there and the early years Port were shit while we were up the top

To be honest I haven't seen a lot of Port this year. Their results seem pretty hot and cold, seems at their best they are pretty good (beat Sydney and Brisbane).

Saints just got to stick with the plan. 5 day break will test them.
I went to training on Wednesday morning and the boys are up and about.
Basically did a short, sharp session.
Max King was in the main group and is chanting at the bit!
You’ll notice a difference in him, now 100 kg and noticeably bigger.

Dixon in the ruck (?) and up front they've named Finlayson, Ollie Lord @ 195cm and 0 games and some 204cm campaigner called Brynn Treakle, sounds like one of Geoffrey Edelstein's ex-wives to me.

What on earth do they have planned? Then again our 195cm zero gamer is working out so far.

Those positions of players are totaly different on the Pt Adelaide website nothing like the AFL site.

We should win tonight, Port turned the ball over a lot even against West Coast so if we bring our usual pressure we should force a lot of turnovers and we will be better at converting those turnovers into goals than West Coast were.

Surely we're due for a good run with the umpiring too with us playing an interstate side at home where we will have the majority of crowd support there

We have shown that we can overcome a bad run with the umpiring but it would be nice to have them on our side for once or at least keep it even.

They might be going too top heavy with height which we will be able to exploit with our extra running power, I don't think Dixon will be fully fit either.

Port are very susceptible to pressure. They have also been hugely inconsistent. Talented yes but come at them hard and you’ll see plenty of holes.

Yeah I think that to some teams we bit short down back on paper (and hence exploitable by putting in extract talls), but Cal and Battle both play above their listed heights (well above imo for Wilkie) and Mase seems to get back to provide another tall player in the d50 at critical times.

Will be really interesting, it's quite a gambit in my view. Once the ball is on the deck Nas and Sincs will just waltz it out of there all night.

I haven't watched any full games that Port have played this year, but is there a reason their fans are so pessimistic about tonight's game?

I know we're up and about at the moment, but it's nowhere near close to a sure bet that we win.
