This picture says it all.

Higgins is basically laying on the ground - how can he possibly be culpable for Aliir's head hitting the deck that way?

Also, Higgins' right arm isn't wrapped enough around Aliir to be the cause of all the force either.

What made the whole thing happen was Aliir trying to kick the ball. That's how it ended up the way it did.

The problem is the "prior rule". Allir tried to run through the smaller Higgins and then when he was pinned had to swivel to try get a kick otherwise he was gone for HTB 30 metres from goal. He initiated the action as much as the tackler. The pendulum has swung way too far on the "duty of care" if that 3 weeks stands.

At the end of the day the MRO table has provided that result so not too much of a surprise. You'd like to think the tribunal would show some common sense...oh wait

3 weeks is a joke.

At some point we need to expect players to show a duty of care to themselves. Aliir was concussed because he tried to scissor kick it while being tackled (and because the ump didn't make a call in a timely manner) which caused his momentum to bring him to ground. That's not Higgins fault. Accidental concussions are going to happen in a contact sport. This was one of them.

3 matches 😂
Did they just see 'St Kilda player' 'Tackle' and 'Concussion' and pull their number out of their collective arses?

Nevermind the fact the bloke could have kept his feet planted and not contributed to it.
Would be sad if it wasn't so funny.
Clown show continues

How long until someone gets suspended when another player ducks and charges into them with their head?

I would like to Hayes included sooner rather than later. The addition of a power forward and relief ruckman would add to the team balance.

It's time to rest Philipou and iinclude Dow. Philipou has become a liability either forward or on the ball. He has iimited defensive skills which in turn increases the pressure on his team mates.

How is Higgins, having made the tackle, supposed to anticipate Allir trying to kick the ball??
Should Higgins have somehow known to let go of the one arm he had hold of??
I actually thought you were meant to release one arm so that they could protect themselves. He chose to try and kick the ball instead of protect himself. Your fault Jack!

Pretty soon the tackling player will have to ask the opposition for permission to tackle before proceeding.

Classic form from Christian.
Bloke genuinely has us living rent free in his head and loves to pile on whenever a player is up.
Root cause needs the entire system overhauled and use precedence in their cases, but the AFL wont do that.
Saw this result a mile away unfortunately. Butler needs to step up.

Michael Christian needs to be sacked, grading that Higgins tackle as severe impact and giving him 3 weeks, that's a f***ing joke.

Meanwhile Maynard got let off scot free for a reckless shoulder charge that KO'd Brayshaw and ended his career, words fail me.

We have to challenge it, hopefully the tribunal has more sense than Christian and downgrades it but I don't have much hope of it.

Higgins got THREE weeks.
Surely, surely taking the p1ss here.
Allir contributed to his tackle by being off balance as he tried to kick it.

Come on now, this is just being absolutely ridiculous. We have to challenge surely? Don’t we?

Collard.

We can give it a go, might get a bit messy with two threads to maintain after a game but can't hurt to try. We could also consider rolling over the last page or two from gameday to the autopsy thread but that might get a bit messy.

In the meantime don't forget the +Quote feature, you can go through and tick the posts you want to reply to from the one thread, and then add them all along your replies in the Autopsy thread - can be quite handy.

Cheers
Thanks for that. Didn’t think of the + quote thingy.

Butler’s injured.Maybe Collard gets a couple of games to show what he’s got. And he’s got a bit.

The media are just as much to blame, they push for certain players to get the maximum penalties like Webster and Higgins.

Then they go easy on the star players like Pendlebury who got away with a gut punch on Neale, 'not much in that, just a fine".

The umpiring, the fixturing and the MRO/Tribunal is corrupt and biased as all hell and we always seem to be on the wrong end.
