What does this mean about Answerth next week ?

“Noah actually passed his concussion tests throughout the game but he didn’t look right. The doctor made the right decision there given the concussion protocols now.”

Is he eligible to play?

That's what I was thinking. Might be best to be cautious anyway but we do need him with starce out

Does the fact that one is 'taking a specie' automatically trump everything else ... I mean you bump and you miss the head you are fine but if you don't you are in trouble ... if you try to climb on someone's back or shoulder that is fine but if you stuff it up and you knee the defenceless guy full on in the back of the head maybe a consequence or three? Seems like a pretty easy way to take out your opposition without any real risk atm...

Or is speccie on the sacred cow list?

Haven’t seen it mentioned here yet but Zorko last night recorded the highest fantasy score of the year league-wide by a pretty large margin…and that’s with him kicking 0.3
Not specifically related to Zorko, but the media coverage of what the Club achieved last night has been staggeringly absent in Melbourne. You can only imagine what would have been written had it been Coll or Carlton who coped with the injuries we had on the night, the reduced rotations, and Morris playing 2 games.
It’s a bit like Sydney (the city I mean.) If it didn’t happen in Sydney, it either didn’t happen, or it wasn’t important. (After Paul Keating’s words).

It is.

Always bemused me that you can infringe whichever way you like and as long as you bring down a speccie or mostly just attempt it you're absolved from the rules of the game.

The typical ones are the deliberate knee or boots into the middle of the back pushing your opponent completely out of the contest, the arms on your opponent's neck or across shoulders for leverage , and as we saw last night Answerth copped a knee into the back of his head and the player didn't even take the mark. You can't tell me that's not dangerous.

I’m seriously hoping linc isnt acl. Just the way he jogged off …
It’ll be an ACL, you can almost always tell when it’s a non contact injury. Having done one a couple of times the pain is much less than any other knee injury and you can generally runstraight line, when you try and step off that leg you just fall over though.

How good was Oscar last night against a very good ruckman, and 98% time on ground, amazing effort.

Also you would have to say that our alleged lack of fitness did not seem to hurt us last night even with only 2 on the bench for most of the match, if not for our dodgy kicking for goal we would have won by 8+ goals.

I honestly think this will be the next AFL crackdown tbh. Unfortunate

Species are sacred - for now. I wouldn’t be surprised if in a few years if you elevate your knees in a marking contest and collect an opponent in the head, then it becomes an infringement.

This article from 3 weeks ago shows it’s on the radar:

There’s been some good coverage of Brisbane’s performance.
If Zork had kicked 3-0 or 2-1 instead of 0-3 maybe he would have got a few more specific plaudits.

Injuries aside, which I think we're maybe able to cover, I'm abit more optimistic about our team today.

The way we transitioned the ball was alot better than previous weeks. Guys like Zorko & the other senior leaders are clearly working hard to rectify our recent slump in form. If we inject some more young runners into the side it could just be the recipe for success we're after, and an opportunity to rejig our game style/set-up to really compete in 2024.

I admit I am kind of wondering if Gardiner would have gone on & kicked a bag last night. As well as how many Morris might have kicked had he actually had a nutritious meal before the game. But anyway, bring on the next 3 games, all of which are highly winnable!

We've got a week to recover and get to Adelaide and will need every day of it.

Then we have the bye. So just set ourselves for a take no prisoners effort next Sunday and with the bye the week after we should be in a lot healthier position.

No more injuries please, we've had our share this year surely.

No bye for over a month

I promise I'm not trying to bait anyone and start another 3KZ against the world here... But is anyone else surprised we opted for Logan Morris ahead of Jarryd Lyons to come into the 23 last night? Many of us criticise the team for being too tall at times, yet here we were replacing a small(ish) type with another tall(ish) type.

For the record I'm very happy Logan played, it's a great story and he certainly contributed. But interested in the thoughts of others!

Our 2 best runners were Lohman and Sharp. Both with a couple of years in the system to build the tank. This is Brain's time.

It was surprising but who knows maybe Lyons pulled up worse than Morris. Or maybe if you're playing a second game in a day it's easier to do that as a deep forward

THE GOOD

Running out the game - the suns were bad but we kept coming. Great response once suns got within 23 points

McKenna - taken a while but back in form. Really set him back the second hammy against Freo...
Zorko - can we just keep him at half back for the rest of the year now?

Matchday coaching shuffles - i thought we did well pushing players around to cover for the injuries. Hippy going all the way to full back to take a mark, lohman pushing back, berry doing more grunt work.

Lohman - just loved his pressure and desperation

Debutants - great signs from them both. The reville pass to Dunkley (?) was awesome.

THE BAD

That goalkicking. AGAIN. not sure what to do but how about no snaps unless within 30m? The daniher brain fade and then dunkley and cameron from the same pocket were just too far out for snaps.

The emergency - from what i understand Fort was the player held over. Weird stuff. If it is for Oscar then wouldn't that mean holding back fort every week? If not - then whatever you do don't have your one emergency held over be a RUCKMAN. Bizarre stuff.

Charlie's form - he just can't really seem to get separation any more? has he lost a yard?

THE UGLY

2 ACLs. 4 this year, and 5 players our with them as we speak, all arguably best 23 (maybe not dizzy AND doedee). Hamstring weakness? Ground issue at the gabba? Coincidence? Dunno but hope we are looking in to it

The suns - honestly they were dire. Definitely tempering my hopes for the season cause we don't get to play a team just handing us the corridor all game

Given dizzy is out playing Morris was a master stroke.

He now knows he can, so he will.

It's a good question and a debate that will rage on. The Callum Brown hit, I see as having just as much bad luck as Anworth's. The Sydney player takes the ball, both players took a step each before they collided. I don't know how the AFL expects Brown to have time to react or predict what is going to happen. But those same standards aren't applied in a marking contest when someone is going for a specky.

I don't want guys suspended for trying to take a mark but guys are suspended for trying to contest the ball but being a split second late or tackle now.

As far I know, the speccy knee to the head is play-on. Think a free was payed to us unjustified if my interpretation of the rule is correct..
