Billy was good tonight, until he got absolutely crushed in a marking contest and needed his head and ribs checked. He struggled to move a bit after that contest. No way he gets dropped unless he is injured because it was great actually winning the taps and giving our mids more of a chance

He was beaten in hit outs not that they matter because it's the most overrated stat in footy. I couldn't see anything different in the midfield apart from our best player coming back in

Our lack of midfield clout ultimately is what is severely hurting us. Outside of Steven, and perhaps Ross, we don't have anyone else to stand up when the heat is on and pull the squad up and keep us in it. A "come with me boys, I'll show you how it's done" type. When we begin losing ascendency late in games, it's pretty much a given we can't wrestle in back. We never do. Cats had Selwood, Dangerfield, Horlin-Smith, Duncan and Guthrie stand up, by weight of numbers we were cooked.

This is pretty much the scenario: the midfield begins to drown first, and then the defence gives way under the pressure of repeat entries, forwards no longer get a look in, team drops its head and the game is lost, often by larger margins than deserved.

We very desperately need to land some substantial midfield fish this trade period. I just can't see Acres and Gresham stepping up quickly enough to fill the void.

In addition to this, the Bruce ruck relief experiment is a fail and needs to stop.

But you did, you pointed out Dunstan and put trade table up there. Why would you do that if you felt he wasn't the main reason, just say Geelong were too good. oh and by the way I'm not upset at all considering the loss I just feel the need to call posts that point the finger at the easy targets just to get a like in the popularity stakes.
Of course he wasn't the main reason, but Geelongs midfield was the obvious difference between the sides. We need to improve our midfield to compete with top 4 sides.

Never said I wanted to trade Dunstan, but I'd be open to virtually any trade that improves St kilda chances for a premiership. If the right deal came up, I'd do it, but I think that Dunstan has enough to not actively look for offers.

I don't mind if you have a contrary opinion though.

Even with all the unfair frees, Bruce should have dobbed that easy goal.

Lang shouldn't have been able to just kick that ball off the ground for a goal. Roberton should have killed it.

Gilbert just kicking the ball out on the full when he was on the 50 metre line.

Should have stuck about 3 or 4 more tackles in our defensive 50.

So much to improve, and yet our first half was pretty damn good.

He killed us 24 possies in the second half shocking coaching again. Just run through the campaigner who cares if you get few weeks. Longer had a chance in the third to kill him but he didnt.

Yes a good coach would tell someone to run through him. Happens all the time. Not. If that's how you decide if a coach is good or not then it's probably not worth reading

Bigger bodies needed next week .
Hopefully Stevens , Wright , Sinclair are all ready to go.
Love Gresh but give him a spell .
Longy going to be a ripper but needs form in the McGoo's.
Dunstan can go find form too.
Oh no don't say that - the only place you can find form is in the AFL because suggesting someone needs to be dropped apparently means you think they are crap and will always be crap.

Overrun by bigger fitter stronger bodies.

Not sure why Mav is getting bashed so much..

19 disposals four tackles and a goal, pretty decent game other than the bad miss in the 3rd quarter. Think it was in the 1st half he did brilliantly to bring the ball to ground in a marking contest against the much bigger Henderson, and then laid a tackle on the extra Cats player to get the ball out of bounds. Split a 2 on 1 when he had no business in doing so and got a huge roar from the Saints fans on the wing for it.

His numbers are basically identical to last season, but his set shot goal kicking has gone to poop. Shouldn't be dropped at all.

Agree with the following, mentioned a few times:
In: Stevens, Sinclair
Out: Dunstan, Long

Im on the Hickey train, but Longer was far better today than I anticipated (more so In the 1st half). Gave us a real opportunity for first use many times; far more than Hickey's recent games. IMO give him another week or two and then reassess.

Pains me to say this as Im generally a big fan and he was a standout last week, but today at times JWeb was a bit of a liability.
Not so much with his kicking (which itself wasnt great, including that turnover in Q1), but so many Cats goals in the 2nd half came from a stoppage or scrap inside their 50, only for them to get a quick handball out and snap.
Countless times it was Jimmy's ball/man to stop, only for him to be completely out of position, slow to react or just plain ineffective at creating an impact.

Hope he can bounce back next week, otherwise perhaps we could see Rice make his debut against the Blues in R8?

Oh and MEATBALLLLLLLLLLL.......that is all.

I think the kids lack confidence.

Where do I come up with stuff, who the **** are you?

The game plan is fine until we completely run out of gas and are sitting ducks.

Round 1 against Melbourne we pressure them off the charts for a quarter but that pressure gradually takes a big dive and they blow us away.

Round 2 against West Coast we're all over them early but they finish all over the top of us by the end and dominate the last quarter.

Today we get blown away in the last 15 minutes of the game to almost lose by 40 points after being about level half way through the last.

Even against Brisbane we dropped right off for about a quarter and they got a big run-on.

If that's not eveidence that our game plan is unsustainable I'm not sure what is.

:sob::sob::sob::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy: Relax a little. There's nothing wrong with being wrong (ayy see what I did there?). And I thought youd be used to it, considering you were wrong about Billy and now this :grimacing:

How can you be so sure those fade outs aren't fitness based but gameplan based? That's right, you can't.

Also news flash, kid, every team switches off for a little during games. Every. Team. If you're expecting a team to be at 100% 100% of the time then you're even more wrong than you already are. So technically, you're wronger - which rhymes with Longer! ( is that why you support him?)

Or you're a troll, who can't stop bashing Richo for what most people agree isn't his fault.

Didn't think it was his best game today but Jack Steele across the first 5 games is averaging:

20 disposals
4.4 marks
7.2 tackles (!)

Not bad for a young guy at a new club who had only played 17 AFL games prior to this year, not to mention coming off a somewhat limited pre-season due to a broken foot. Love him!
