Has a huge upside but just doesn't influence games from what i've seen. I know drafting has alot to do with potential but in my opinion a ready made player is a safer bet.
I haven't seen alot of this kid just wondering if he has had any standout games at a high level, if so would someone please enlighten me?

Kevin Sheehan said today he was hoping for a breakout game soon, I thought he looked good but maybe consistency could be an issue.
Its hard to tell in these games because the coach tries to avoid a gameplan based around one player, but in the right hands he'll do well, just as easy as he could lose his way too.
Can't get over how big a job Guy McKenna has got, he's on a hiding to nothing.

Has to be picked at number 3.

Swallow picks himself, as does Bennell.

Then you take a punt on Day, he has massive upside and looks to have
all the right tools to become an absolute freak of a player.

On little Ive seen of Day, Id take him ahead of Bennell in a heartbeat.

No way he slides past the GC's first 3 without major interference.

May not have turned a game on it's head yet, but he was used in a team friendly manner these champs. BAck, forward, ruck. Plugging holes where needed.

Still don't know where his best possie is, I'd like to think it's CHF, has nice skills for a big lad which is not too common. Uses both feet and his leap is effortless.

Perhaps he'll be used as a true 'floater' with no position. Start him on the wing and tell him to play 1 kick off at clearances....try ftopping him with the high ball. I caan definately see the likeness to Tippett. Just keep in mind Tippett didn't break out until his 3rd year on our list.

When in doubt, take height, you can't teach that shit.

Day probably needs a breakout game, as he just doesn't do enough yet. But if he develops, he could be Gold Coast's Reiwoldt. He has the tools. And in the AFL the kicks actually get close to the target a lot more often than they have been in the U18's.
He could be the sort of guy McKenna WANTS to use to build his forward line around, and he could dominate it like Fev did at Carlton. But not for a couple of years yet.
I think McKenna's first couple of seasons are going to be pretty rough, but if he survives ....

To me seems a star in the making, i think he will be very special a player.

I would honestly consider taking him at number 1, I'm a massive rapt for him.

He has a nice presence about him on the field as well, he could be has good Pavlich, would give up alot for him at west coast.

RE he might slip to pick 4 if we end up with it.Is he a better prospect than Darling?

Even though Darling was pretty quiet this time around, he already had runs on the board. Last year he and Swallow were basically the difference between WA and the others. They were both under age and made impacts every time they got on the field. Darling, in particular, showed a lot of what it means to be a top forward.
Day has better weapons: he is taller, faster and can kick it further. But he hasn't grabbed a game by the neck yet. Everything is promise.
Darling has delivered. As such, he'll probably go higher.
However, all of that doesn't matter. How high a guy goes depends only on what goes on between the ears of the recruiter in question. Each one looks for something different. It is why Draft Day can be such a confusing time: everyone and their animal has an opinion, but it means nothing when a recruiter pulls a rabbit out of the hat. It screws up everyone else and... You get the drill.

I go to the same school as Day and think he is an absolute star! hopefully he doesn't get drafted until Port's pick :D but i think he is GC bound..

Young gun Sam Day torn between goals, homers and dunks
"I'm still keeping my options open at this stage even though the past few months have been full-on football," Day said.

"I have really enjoyed football and stepping up to the next level and seeing where I am at.

"I've got a few things to sort out at the end of the year, but I am not looking that far ahead yet."

Day's reluctance to make a decision could frustrate Gold Coast's attempts to draft the exciting marking tall, who has family links in Melbourne.

He will have to nominate for the national draft by early November, only weeks before he plans to tour three US universities with his father.

They include the University of Florida, where his uncle, Tim, is a specialist sports physiotherapis

GC would be mad if they missed out on this kid. May not have dominated any of the championship games, but stood out like a beacon as a great potential talent.

Would not surprise me if no one gets him and he goes plays baseball. More money and less injuries in baseball after all, that is if you can like the game. :D

Yeah we have heard this idea, with someone suggesting that he won't play for teams too far away from home like the GC and will just quite AFL straight away and focus on baseball...ummm, makes sense for him moving overseas

WCE had a meeting with him and his family on sunday.

Apparantley seemed receptive to moving west, if WCE gets a shot at him.:thumbsu:
So this contradicts all other rumours about heading off to USA. Ahhh who knows

wasted ................... but sam day cant play for 2 years

I think he'll roll the dice and just hope that GC don't select him. If they do they will waste one of their multitude of picks. I can see him happy to sit out for two years to concentrate on Baseball. A potential move to the States would probably require a minimum of two-three years commitment on his behalf to see if he will make it to the major league after playing on a college scholarship. He is 17 now, after this time if failed in the States he could return home as a 19 or 20 year old and have another crack at the AFL, suspension served, no harm done as he will still be highly sought after.
By not committing yet to GC, I feel that he is just happy to see if he gets his wish fulfilled to stay in either South Australia or to play in Melbourne, if not it will just make his decision easy, baseball it is!
