Play Hayes against Witts next weekend. Giant vs giant.

Phillips showed what a smart ruckman does when the game is tight and on the line, when a part time ruck wont jump into the contest, trying to win the clearance when the ball hits the ground.

Rest Scooter, we need him fit and playing in September more than in July.

I watched the first quarter on the live stream and was at Alberton for the 2nd half and Hayes spoon feed Jackson and co. so many times.

I agree with Chewy316 that the club would have wanted Hayes and Lord to play after the bye as they are ahead of Dante, and it would have been good experience for him to travel and be part of the team.

The fact his parents were home watching the game means the club had no idea scooter would pull out. Clubs make such a fuss with parents being part of a debut game.

If need be they pick Lord to ruck before Dante against Witts, if they dont give Hayes a game. Charlie isnt fit enough to ruck more that the odd forwardline ball up and throw in.

We don't know whether it is the arrogance of the coaching staff or the 2 packs a day of Hayes but we might need some mediation between these two parties as we are in the run to win it all.

Lycett - old and injured
Teakle - currently injured and green
Visentini - young and green
Dixon - old and injured and needed up forward
Finlayson - needed up forward but can pinch hit in the ruck

If Lycett is out, we have to play Sam Hayes.

I hope the List Management have a couple of rucks on their radar.

Could someone who knows somone get some answers on this. It would be nice to know wtf is going on here. Dante may be a player of the future, but looks ordinary at sanfl level let alone afl. Hayes had 41 hit outs and 19 possies yesterday. I just want to know why they refuse to even entertain giving him a chance. I also get seriously annoyed when Finlayson doesn't even compete in the centre bounce. It may work occasionally but it is not the type of footy I respect and almost cost us the game last night once phillips started belting the ball forward 30+ metres.

41 hitouts (With Lord getting a fair bit of ruck time as well), 19 disposals and 5 tackles this week.

Lycett injured
Teakle injured
Visentini had two (two!) hitouts as our #1 ruck last week
No other ruck options on the list
Hayes coming off of 41 hitouts, 19 disposals and 5 tackles on the weekend

What's the bet we still don't play him?

We need a play or free Sam Hayes banner. I am really hoping Josh Carr has some sway now.

If Sammy Hayes doesn't get selected and goes postal down at Alberton, I wouldn't condone it and I wouldn't endorse that behaviour but I would understand it.

What the?

In the post game rozee said that Dante was actually prepped to play, then lycett said he was right to go at the last minute, so he took all the strapping etc off, then he failed the fitness test and Dante had to get ready again.
So I reckon they at least took with the thought that lycett was a good chance of dropping out.
That makes no sense given Dante's parents were sitting at home.

Must have at least been a possibility otherwise why choose Visentini as emergency?
True. I think the reasoning was that Visentini was partial cover if either Dixon and Lycett fell short. Dante is quite good as a forward. He's also been getting more ruck minutes than Sam Hayes in the SANFL, so the club is trying to fast track his development. That being said Hayes is the better ruck candidate at present but he's not got the confidence of the selectors. On what I saw of the game against West he worked hard every minute and deserves a chance in the Power side again.

Purely speculating off Ken's presser last night, but I don't think they expected Scooter to miss the game. I suspect they wanted to give Visentini the opportunity of being part of the squad on a road game much like they did with Hugh Jackson going into the Richmond game earlier this season. The problem, of course was that when Scooter went down, Vis had to play.

After Dante's performance last night, if Scooter is out there is absolutely no way that he can be given a game over Hayes as the ruck given how they played yesterday in their respective games. This Club is right in the middle of a premiership window - now is not the time to be ******* around gifting games to someone at a position of such importance.

Putting Hayes in the ruck also would allow Finlayson to stay forward where he's the Club's leading goal kicker this season. Just seems a no-brainer.
Yep, common sense. But this is Hinkley and co. They'd rather play the boot studder in stiletto heels than Hayes. Won't happen.
