Satnav doesn't emit GPS signals. It receives them only.
Thanks for that. so they may have POS satnav signal to verify a location? I am not vehicle savvy so don't know if it was possible that his vehicle had manufacturers satnav installed or whether a after purchase one was installed.

Can police track vehicle locations by embedded electronic data in vehicle rego stickers? they were trialing it years ago in Australia.

This is just another example of how people can be sucked in by the media.
The CH7 story says 'it was alleged he was on a bender ... etc.' without saying who alleged it or naming the nightclub.
Then it shows video footage of POS from months earlier. Then it shows a picture of The Deck nightclub.
At no point do they actually say POS was at The Deck the night before SM disappeared.
They leave it up to the viewer to draw their own conclusions.
I guess this is standard practice for TV (ever watched Frontline?)
But how easy would it have been to go to The Deck, interview the management and obtain footage to confirm this story as fact? Or to interview eyewitnesses who saw it happen?
But they didn't. And the most likely reason is that nobody was prepared to publicly testify that this actually happened and maybe the whole 'allegation' is false?

And here you are. Hook, line and sinker.
Jeezus friggin Christ, MUST you be so snarky to literally everyone here? Settle down buttercup. SOME of what I have heard comes from my nephew, SOME from my cousin, both Ballarat locals, and SOME from in here/media. I know now who first mentioned The Deck to me and I’ve just spoken to them again (hint: it wasn’t the media), there was supposedly more that happened earlier in the night but I’m not going to repeat it because you’ll tear it down as you do anyone who dares to have a thought or opinion.

And here you are. Thinking you know everything about all of us, where we are getting info from, and who we are listening/talking too. ffs stop being so damn rude.

No the police can't track you. The only way the police could get info off the satnav is if they recovered it from the physical device. Or in the case of Android Auto / Carplay from the device plugged in.

Why are you getting your knickers in a twist? I never directed any comment at you. Perhaps it is you who should settle down?

If you have some factual evidence to present, then do it. Don't just post what you 'heard from a friend' as though it is a fact.

Yes, just the location of the car.

Even that can't be done without a warrant. There's no way for the coppers to know where everyone's car is at a click of their fingers.

All of our tech giants do collection anonymous data on mobile phone location / signal strength etc. It's how you get live traffic on Waze etc etc. It's all anonymous though and based off mobile network data.

If you drove somewhere without a mobile device in your vehicle unless that vehicle has a sim card (like Teslas do) there's absolutely no way to track the vehicle. Even if it has Satnav.

Some of the more sophisticated in-car GPS systems do record location data permanently (like a black box recorder) without a SIM card and without necessarily transmitting it anywhere. This can be extracted and used for diagnostic / logistics analysis by the manufacturer and authorised service people. But these systems are only fitted to specific models (e.g. very high-end luxury vehicles, or vehicles supplied to government / military). I think it's unlikely POS vehicle had such a device fitted.

Do we know what car POS could have allegedly been driving?

Yes that’s right. So from the picture of the car you posted, do you know what type of car it is?
I don't know anything. It was asked what sort of car POS drove. The picture was the car I posted was the vehicle POS allegedly (according to DailyMail) drove (as in, his regularly used vehicle). 9News reported this vehicle as the one police siezed.
Not an expert but it looks like a DMax - maybe a 2020 model or thereabouts?

Uhh… sure you didn’t 🙄

My knickers are just fine, but thank you for your concern.
And no. You couldn’t help yourself but to have another crack, so, no.

Not an expert but it looks like a Hilux - maybe a 2020 model or thereabouts?
Yes that’s what I meant too, car that he was allegedly driving. Make and model will help determine if has built in GPS, Or can fit your own.

So you don't believe you were taken in by that article?

Why did you post the following?

Wasn’t it supposed to be The Deck that he was at the night before? After the birthday party?

Or was that the filmed ‘bender’ night? Or both?

Where did you get that information from, if not the article I referenced?

I think it's a DMax but I repeat, the police have not alleged POS was driving anything.

The photo is the one used in the media allegedly of the car seized by police.

No, but we can use the car example to check if it could have GPS.

A bit of "Fat Tony" from the Simpsons in this response. "What's a truck?"

That’s better.

No, I take most of what mainstream media say with a grain of salt these days. I don’t like how sensationalist they are, and how they try to manipulative and drive a story. I actually rate ch7 as the worst of them, but only just. I’m not woke, nor am I naive, I just like facts and then to make up my own mind, using those facts.

I posted my comment because I remembered someone mentioning being at the venue on the night before, or was it the bender night, and I couldn’t remember which one it was, or was it both, and thought maybe it came from here, hence me posting and making good use of the question marks. After thinking on it, and a quick message this morning, it was clarified that it came from a personal discussion. But I didn’t figure that out until after I had already posted last night.

For me, the initial information came from a personal exchange.

So the person who you had this personal exchange with - did they witness POS on a bender in The Deck the night before SM disappeared? Do they know him well enough to recognise him? Or did they get their information second-hand?

Pretty sure that the factory fitted GPS on that model ute would not record any data (if one was even fitted).
Im not sure, would have to know what model it is and what’s installed or whether a GPS was installed. That’s if this vehicle/type is his.
