How are Dreamteam scoring quirks captured by the statisticians? Eg.

- If a shot on goal is touched off the boot or on the line, do i get a point for the behind?

- Does a handballed rushed behind count as 2 pts?

- I think after the siren possessions only count if it's a shot on goal, so i no longer sweat on players booting it to the umpire at half time after a mark in the middle of the ground..

- If a player kicks a ball out of bounds on the full is that a free against? So does the player get 3-3= 0 pts or 3 pts?

- With tackles, i read here somewhere that tackles are counted if brought to ground or earn a free. What if they get a free against from a hard tackle but in the back, do i still get 4-3= 1 pt?

I've just always wondered on some of these if anyone knows the answers, plus if anyone's got others bring em up.

The tackle then free against has been confusing me.

In some cases it's a +1, but how can it be effective if it results in a free being given away?

I've seen some brilliant tackles that result in a FA not being awarded the four points, but I've also seen some shocking ones that end up being given the four points.

the official definition of the statistitions is that if the play is stopped, or the disposal is ineffective, then it is a tackle.

1. No points for the handball rushed behind.
2. Three points for a kick out on the full.
3. Possesion only counts if shot on goal after siren

1. Depends if the goal umpire slaps his hand (rushed) or slaps his chest (behind and you get the point, refer to Dale Thomas tonight)
2. Player gets 2 points for the handball
3. Not sure
4. Out On Full has always been 0 (+3 for the kick, -3 free against). If it isn't then it must have changed this year, it was 0 every other year. Im 100% sure of that.
5. Very subjective what is a tackle, I think the main criteria is if the statistician has the player in their Dream team

- Yes
- No
- Correct
- It is just +3, no free against
- Tackles only count if player is brought to ground, holding the ball decision or if they cause a turnover. Tackles do not count if it is a free against or the disposal goes to a teammate (effective disposal). So a player can be wrapped up in a great tackle but if the disposal goes to a teammate it still doesn't count ... while an arsey tug of a jumper that causes a turnover (or ball goes to ground) does count as a tackle. Not sure on bumps.

99% sure my answers are correct.

This is what i always thought for tackles

a: Holding the ball. (best out come because you get the free for as well ;))
b: Player handballs and it's a turn over.
c: Player handballs to nothing at all. (like a really obvious one like handballing so you don't get pinned in to space)
d: Tackled to ground and it's just a ball up. (Although if like 3 players tackle the one guy either the obvious main tackler will get the points or nobody will)

They are really harsh on these those. Any indecision will result in zero points.

1. I never said it wasnt, just said the last 5 years it has been 0. (The change is good 4 me considering some of the players I have in my team)
2. I disagree, although I could be wrong.
yeah wasn't you specifically

I'm just basing it off Goddard's rushed behind earlier this season that wasn't award points

I know one of Bowden's rushed points wasnt counted, and Im sure thats what alot of people are basing it on, but I have seen that a few of Johncocks have been counted this year.

Depends on the stat guy I guess?
By the way I know one of the guys that does the stats for some of the games at AAMI stadium. Not that he could help my DT in anyway. Although he does do fantasy AFL teams :p

The last 5 years it has NOT been 0. You are completely wrong, wrong wrong. There is no free against, therefore you get the three points. This was only relevant when they counted clangers which they don't now. Need I say again you are wrong! And you obviously haven;t been doing it 5 years so....shut it dude!!!!

i woulda thought that handballing through the behinds would've been counted as a handball. while ineffective as it is i figured it would still count.

can anyone who works with stats confirm this??

Ask chiwowww and then the opposote of what he says it correct.
Unless you ask him about Dane Swan

and, dane swan gets atleast 4 tackles and none are counted

what a load of crap that is

well, i had Swan (c) last night... 0 tackles (unlike Dane Swan)

i swear i saw him get at least 1 tackle - not impressed !!!
would love to know the exact definition of a tackle because i'm sure a piece of jumper is sometimes 4pts, but a bonecrushing FA is -3.

I can confirm categorically that it does NOT count as a handball. This is based on doing DT for 6 years and tracking stats like some sort of deranged sicko. Just like a kick out on the full is not a free against it is a quirk.

There probably has to be an effort to get it to a team mate.

One thing I am not so sure on is deliberate out of bounds from a kick - anyone know?

The tackle has been done to death and I think there is no real definition that we could apply as everyone sees it differently depending on whether it is your player or not! Obviously a stoppage or free for holding is a tackle, but where you wrap a guy up and he gets the handball away it seems you have to at least stop him and force disposal.
