As speculated last week, SDK has officially signed a two year extension.

Looks like he knocked back big offers from multiple clubs including Saints and Suns.

Great to have this sorted so early in the season!

"I’m excited to commit for at least the next two years. Geelong has become home for me, and I absolutely love everything the Club and region offers,” De Koning said.

“Since being drafted, I’ve been lucky enough to play with some great players and enjoy team success, and the group we are building now has a bright future ahead, and I’m excited to be part of it.”

WE have a decent spine with Neale, Conway and SDK locked up.

Need them to keep developing and get all 3 on the park at once.

Go Catters

Just need to complete the quartet and re-sign Connor O'Sullivan.

Hopefully that's not too far away.

Another Nostra fail. Nothing more certain than contract extensions when that fella starts a trade thread.

Like a lot of others SDK being smart and extending to 2027. Will make him an automatic FA for Tasmania FC's start.

I’m genuinely a little surprised (but delighted) to see this signing. When he was benched on the weekend he looked so annoyed that I started to think he might be having second thoughts. Very pleased to be completely wrong! :)

The kid certainly wears his heart on his sleeve!

Use the website and not the app

It's a known issue with the Tapatalk app which impacts more the just Bigfooty, and the app developers have shown zero interest in addressing the issue

Highly likely the contract was signed before our last game.

That would have made it much easier to drag the guy... which they did.

Yet another Cats put down from Mr Negativity. Why do you support follow the club?

Not even close Ammo. Or the right club.
Bi 'ol swing and a miss.

I'm happy SDK is staying.
Just an observation at the sheer volume of pointless trade threads a norf fan makes the peter out into nothing.

Interesting one. I'd almost be using the guy as trade bait. He lost his capacity to perform as a key back so we shifted him into the ruck, where he's now being smashed by VFL-level ruckmen and getting subbed off. What do we do with him next? Push up forward? Hopefully he can turn it around but hard to know what to make of him.

Did he lose his capacity to perform as a key back or did we shift him into the ruck as a necessity?

A little of Column A, and a little of Column B

This is what Scott said last year following our round 16 win over Essendon, and SDK's second match as our starting ruck:

Scott on the De Koning Ruck Experiment

We are really optimistic about Sam De Koning.

We could leave him as a defender and I am sure he would do that role brilliantly for us, but a bit similar to some of our players over the last month it just hasn't been clicking for him.

We make no apologies for prioritising our best players and especially our young players.

We thought we needed to get him into the game a little bit more and if it didn't work this week, we would try it again next week.

IMO his decline as a key back is wildly overstated. It's not like he was getting bags kicked on him, it was just that he wasn't living up to the stratospheric expectations of a guy who placed 2nd in the Rising Star.

Same happened to Daniel Talia IIRC.

In an ideal world, he wouldn't be playing ruck, but we just don't have a better option at the moment.

He had taken 36 contested marks in 2022. Only taken 26 total since then. Huge decline
