Coaching Staff Senior Coach: John Worsfold - Thank you John

We need a coach like Hardwick. I remember thinking in 2016 when he was grabbing his players at the three quarter time break and shoving them around to fire them up 'that's exactly what I would want to see our coach doing'. Worsfold is the complete opposite.

100% agree- this bullshit Devonshire tea spread with scones and tea and shit that he puts on for them at 3/4 time has got to stop.

Do you really think that's why Hardwick is now a premiership coach though?

The Tigers' unexpected turnaround seemed to happen because Hardwick knew he was lucky to still be in the job. He was given an entirely new coaching staff to work with and he was smart enough to listen to them.

Whether via his own ideas or otherwise, he figured out a style that worked for what he had. This is what I think Woosha is lacking the most.

I think in this situation there is two scenarios
1. We stick with Woosha and completely go after new assistant coaching staff with good tactics, kind of like Collingwood and Richmond have done the past two years
OR
2. We continue to lose and the club has no option but to sack him given how poorly the team has played the whole year to the point it effects the attendance and satisfaction with the club. In this case who the hell would be caretaker coach? Would guess it would be Mark Harvey and its a tough one.

The big question is who do we go after is the club sacks him? Would love for us for once to go after someone who hasn't coached before and has had a good apprenticeship like Blake Caracella, John Barker, Scott Burns. Would hate for us to go after someone like say Sanderson, McCartney, Voss etc who have coached before and weren't really good.
Would go after Voss as midfield assistant coach, but yeah definitely not as senior coach.

No way. They need to harden up. Keep the crusts on.
Could feed them some of Danks finest? High in Protein and Mysterious Energy.

Apologies for the intrusion guys. I wrote about Essendon's pursuit of Worsfold back in September 2015 and - as a West Coast man - I was very concerned with Woosha's demeanour and game plan back in 2013, and I'm seeing the same things week-in week-out.

Have a read and let me know what you think http://footyprophet.com/essendons-pursuit-of-woosha-a-massive-risk/

And he was told to change his ways or he would be out of a job after the 2016 season so I would not be putting that up as a good thing. His wife actually told him he was a total tool and he should have a good look at himself. He did and they won the flag in 2017 without the huff and puff.

Cal Twomey article from the Essendon website: "Merrett backs Worsfold". Quoted text below is only the direct quotes from Zach.
Zach Merrett said:
"He's a very consistent guy and as a coach he's very level-headed. He hasn't wavered in terms of his professionalism over the last four weeks, he's as disappointed as we are to have dropped the games we have, but I've got full support in 'Woosha'," Merrett said.

"It's been a pretty disappointing month. To lose four games in a row is never fun and the way we've played hasn't been up to scratch. We need to bounce back and try to get the four points, but also play the way we want to play," he said.

"You want to be ruthless and hard to play against and that hasn't been our way the last four weeks. We've got to get back to tackling hard and chasing hard – it seems simple, but it's the way we've got to get back to playing."

"It's been a bit different to my previous two. I'm getting some really good opportunities to learn and develop as a player, understanding it's probably going to happen most weeks now," Merrett said.

"That's a fun experience and something I've got to learn to deal with as well and still have a big impact and influence on the game with my teammates.

"I've spoken to a number of people who are really experienced in that area and it's something that's going to take a bit of time as well. I'd love to go out there and be best on [ground] every week, but it's going to take time and I'm certainly putting in the work during the week to get better. Hopefully the results will slowly change."

I think I still have faith in Worsfold. Glad Neeld's been moved on as I always thought his recruitment was a bit suspect. From 2016 and into 2017 Woosha had made it clear that he wanted to lift our capacity to score and found out more about Fantasia and Walla, and brought in Green and Stewart. And we all sang the praises of the forwardline and John's work. It should have been as clear as day that with so many inside mids leaving that we needed midfielders. Good we land Smith. Lost Kelly from that rotation.

With Kelly going we land Saad - not exactly like for like. The fans scream out for Jake Lever and the coaches respond by trying to turn Hurley into something he's not instead of recruiting an intercepting defender. Experiment hasn't worked. Hurley needs to put some weight back on and gorilla the big forwards. The sooner Ridley or Gleeson or Francis develops the better, but those choices had been taken from Woosha's armory.

I'm willing to be patient, especially if we now bring someone in with some success behind them. Caracella or Tudor and I will be very pleased.

How do you still back him? Literally got outsmarted by a 5 year old auskicker on the weekend. The auskicker said curnow was his favourite player and was everywhere today.

Was the match winner for a team that cant kick goals haha. Yet worsfold (coaching genuis) refused to put or even try either of hurley or hooker on him.

Again outsmarted by a 5 year old.

I just hope like players coaches can also go through bad patches of form. He is terrible atm, having some absolute shockers. Just unfortunate you can't drop him for a couple of weeks.

And he won exactly the same number of games in the 2017 home and away season as he did in 2015 and 2013.
Third place finish in a very even year against fifth in those two seasons though, and Richmond in those two seasons never really threatened to be in the top few teams.

Richmond were much better performed in 2017 than in 2013-15, even without taking finals into the equation.
