Coaching Staff Senior Coach: John Worsfold - Thank you John

Yep very true. I just think Woosha would be better in a "director of coaching" type role than in the senior coach role, similar to what he was doing at Adelaide.

Coaches like him (i.e. with little to no strategy/tactical nous) won't survive in the modern game. It's why clubs tend to go more in favour of the untried coaches than the experienced guys, because they think differently to the coaches of yester-year like. Essentially Woosha has just been a figurehead.
I don't particularly care if we're calling him Senior Coach (figurehead) or Director of Coaching, or if he's an actual senior coach with a couple of assistants that can cover his weaknesses. Everyone has weaknesses, ultimately the team that works best is the one that is complementary, regardless of titles.

What I really want to see is cohesion in the coaches box, cohesion on the field, cohesion in the club, and some bloody WWWW.

Good points! With any luck the sacking of Neeld and the refreshing of the AFL side (through playing the kids) will mean we can turn it around reasonably quickly.

Universally acclaimed as a good man manager... I don't have any personal experience with him though and you make some interesting points.
Neither do I, and I'm happy to admit I'm no more than a common chump with no idea what goes on behind closed doors so I could be attributing things to him that shouldn't be. In fact I hope I am wrong about who's responsible for what and that I'm hugely oversimplifying things, because if I'm not.. to me that kind of points to us being even more atrociously run than I could have thought.

can someone explain to me this rule of a sacking payout to Worsfold going into the soft cap for department spending?

how would that affect our structure and planning going forward; hiring his replacement, what is counted towards that cap and would be affected etc

I have to say it our loud as I type it because it’s so hard to believe...Mark Neeld our chief strategist! It’s like some sick ******* nightmare.

How do you still back him? Literally got outsmarted by a 5 year old auskicker on the weekend. The auskicker said curnow was his favourite player and was everywhere today.

Was the match winner for a team that cant kick goals haha. Yet worsfold (coaching genuis) refused to put or even try either of hurley or hooker on him.

Again outsmarted by a 5 year old.

I just hope like players coaches can also go through bad patches of form. He is terrible atm, having some absolute shockers. Just unfortunate you can't drop him for a couple of weeks.
I guess I'm willing to be patient because I think I saw enough last year in terms of rebuilding the forwardline to realise that he knows what he's doing. Unfortunately some things didn't fall into place this year and the coaching reshuffle perhaps hasn't been advantageous. He clearly wants to teach the players how to defend better - we don't have the capacity through the midfield to do that well enough, and many would agree that the forwards are still learning how to be more accountable.

The other thing that interests me is the success Richmond has had by keeping Dimma, Pies are on the up having kept Bucks. Not falling for knee-jerk reactions builds trust. The same old cycle of coach sacking and rehiring does nothing but promote disorder. The players need to trust that with some tweaks and work they can win.

tbf mcclure's a senile old fool, so there's that

He is off the cuff when when explaining generalizations about AFL and general opinions but not so much with underlying specific bullet points of known issues... When he said it he seemed like he wasn't supposed to let it out but got triggered by the others hypothesizing up the wrong path...

Do you really think that's why Hardwick is now a premiership coach though?

The Tigers' unexpected turnaround seemed to happen because Hardwick knew he was lucky to still be in the job. He was given an entirely new coaching staff to work with and he was smart enough to listen to them.

Whether via his own ideas or otherwise, he figured out a style that worked for what he had. This is what I think Woosha is lacking the most.
Neil Balme, Brendan Gale Peggy McNeil turned it around. But mostly Balme...

Here’s the Illuminati version of events - end of 2017, the insiders knew that our list was lucky to make the finals, but sold the ‘hope’ to more than 70,000 members anyway. The flashy recruiting story helped here.
Then, after a woeful preseason, we produce one good quarter against Adelaide and instantly sign on Woosha for 3 years. Now he knows he has 2 extra years to reap the cash, which is good because he knows that this year is going to be a shocker. And in 2019 we will ‘improve’ again on our bottom four finish from this year and this will enable him to see out his contract.
Meanwhile, the Neeld sacking is just a P&L marketing expense to help keep the others safe and use his leaving and the subsequent ‘restructure’ as another great move by the club to sell the hope to the members again in 2019. Either that or the club really is just a complete zoo...

Robbo writing this morning that Woosh's contract includes a clause that "minimises any payout in the event of sacking"

Ominous. Doesn't seem like a really watertight contract!
No, it doesn't. But perhaps our administration aren't as stupid as they look if that's the case. If it's true, it's a good situation for us to re-sign him for stability but not risk a massive payout in the event of poor performances.

Perhaps. But now that it's known the club can turf him, I see it having a similar effect.

Really, when they say "stability", it's just "we're shitscared of the media circus".

I thought we loved the media circus? That’s the only thing we’ve delivered consistently better than the entire competition combined for about 10 years

I assumed they rushed to re-sign him to give him the security to not move back to WA, assuring him that if things continued to go well he wasnt wasting his time. Then mutually agreed to a clause to reduce payout if something went down, so they werent completely up shit creek when it happened...

doesn't sound too far out of the realm of possibility

I think I know what the club is doing. They believe its time for another restructure that really isn't a restructure. Genius stuff. Will throw the blood hounds off the scent. The next step is the invention of new names for everyones 'position'. Like John Worsfold - head honcho of almost all the stuff, Mark Harvey - senior vice boss of some other stuff and so on. Neeld didn't like his title and that is the real reason he quit.

I like this - Congratulations - you're the new EFC writing stuff guy!:D

I'd say it's almost certain that Woosha probably goes too. If that's his idea of "communication" then his position is untenable. He'd be better in a footy department role than in a coaching job imo, especially with his repeated proclamations that its on the players to figure it out not him.
No different to Mick Malthouse...both UBD were up before they were appointed by Carlton and Essendon...deflecting his accountability onto the players is a likely sign he's suffering with PAWS.
