serious risk of wooden spoon

Fair Dinkum, they played a crap team. Calrton are still bloody ordinary...

We still have Richmond and Essendon games, both winable..

Why?

We beat Carlton this week and they accounted for Richmond. Earlier this season we should have beaten Essendon and Richmond and we play both again.

If Carlton can beat Richmond then surely we can beat Richmond. We are also a good chance against Essendon. Don't underestimate our chance against Sydney either.
We are a huge chance to get the spoon but we should at least win one more game that could see us get away with 15th.

they'll be lucky to finish 9th! It appears Bulldogs, Melbourne, Port and even Essendon could finish above them. Richmond has Freo (subi) next week, that will finish off their finals hopes.

We now find ourselves in a tricky situation. We don't want to win to many more games otherwise we will find ourselves missing out on priority picks. I was pretty mad seeing Collingwood lose to Fremantle because if we win one more game we will move ahead of the Magpies. I am happy for us finishing in 15th just not the humiliation of receiving a wooden spoon.

Im also with you on this one Al.

"Risk of a wooden spoon?"

You say it like it's a bad thing.

The spoon is neither here nor there anymore, hasn't been real stigma attached to it since the end of the eighties.

The draft rewards finishing last, point blank REWARDS it.

If we do finish last (fwiw, still reckon we wont btw) take the damn rewards, stuff those that say "you won the spoon" and tell them, "yea, but look at *player one draft pick, player two draft pick and who we ripped off/forced their hand in the psd to give us a favourable trade deal.*"

If I've got to take a wooden spoon to help take the step back towards being a powerful/talented side two/three/four seasons down the track, so be it.

it appears that a good % of the hawthorn fans on BF don't think this way.

not worried about getting the spoon at all. more worried about winning more than the 5.5 games that would see us lose a priority pick!

Don't worry about the spoon... we got the spoon a few years back and there's a guy named Adam Cooney running around in our team as a result. Take the picks I say....

just PLEASE beat Richmond!

There is still a stigma attached to the wooden spoon regardless of what goodies it provides. When fans of a sporting club believe there is any joy in being rated the worst team in the competition then the whole system is obscene. Stuff draft picks! The very thought of our proud club holding up the likes of Carlton and Collingwood makes me ill to the extreme. We have a realistic opportunity to knock Richmond off and an outside chance against both Essendon and Sydney. If we were to lose a priority pick by winning two of those games I would be be far happier than seeing us fall away into an uncompetitive rabble that won a pitiful four matches for the year. If another Hawthorn supporter tells me that they hope we dont win another game this tear I will deck them...I promise.

Funilly enough, the real definer is Collingwood vs Carlton. If Collingwood win, Carlton get the spoon, we get prority picks and Collingwood don't (that's almost as good). If Carlton win, however, we get the spoon and both Carlton and Collingwood get prority picks--No thanks.

Would be hard to take for everyone if Collingwood got a priority pick, but we unfortunatley ran Carlton into form and gave them some confidence so its a good chance of happening. If we lose to Freo to this week (almost certain) u can be sure we wont win another game. The players look very tired and if the chance at finals goes they will really chuck it in and we will finish 13th. So make sure u dont beat Essendon or u might only end up with pick 5 in the draft and no priority pick.
