SFA Tennis

Welcome to SFA Tennis, the world where SFA players can become world ATP/WTA champions in their own mind. You can sign up at anytime and put in as much or as little effort as you like. Unlike its predecessor, this game will aim to be tailored so those who wish to really create a certain type of player, can do so.

When you sign up please post the following details. Each user can pick an ATP and a WTA player to compete in respective tournaments.

Name:
Tour:
(ATP/WTA)
Country:

From there, it is time to design your players.

Baseline:

Serve:
150 (Max at any one time 175)
Attack: 100 (Max 150)
Defence: 100 (Max 150)
Stamina: 100 (Max 150)

Choose your Player Style:

a) Power baseliner (+5 Serve, +5 Attack, -3 Defence, -2 Stamina)
b) Serve-and-volleyer (+7 Serve, +3 Attack, -5 Defence)
c) Counter Puncher (+5 Defence, +5 Stamina, -3 Attack, -2 Serve)
d) All-Court (+2 Serve, +1 Attack, +1 Defence, +1 Stamina)

Choose your Preferred Court:

Hard
= (+1 bonus on each attribute) = 4-point bonus but majority of tournaments
Clay = (+3 Attack & Defence +1 on Serve & Stamina) = 8-point bonus
Grass = (+4 bonus on each attribute) = 16-point bonus

Serve points:

Divide your serve points (from above) up into the following Categories, but must be within the below parameters.

Ace = 25% (Max) | 5% (Min)
1st% = 80% (Max) | 50% (Min)
2nd% = 70% (Max) | 40% (Min)

EXAMPLES:

Name:
John Smith
Gender: Male
Country: USA
Player Style: Power baseliner
Preferred Court: Clay

Attributes: (On Clay Court)

Serve: 155 (156)
Attack: 105 (108)
Defence: 97 (102)
Stamina: 98 (99)

Ace = 23% / 1st% = 80 / 2nd% = 52

Name: Richard Williams
Gender: Male
Country: GBR
Player Style: Counter Puncher
Preferred Court: Grass

Attributes: (On Grass Court)

Serve: 148 (151)
Attack: 97 (100)
Defence: 105 (107)
Stamina: 105 (105)

Ace = 8% / 1st% = 75 / 2nd% = 65

PLAYING A MATCH

Playing a match:

What impacts the above is the Defence rating >100% of the RETURNER VS the Attack rating >100% of the SERVER

Examples: John Smith vs. Richard Williams

John Smith (USA)
Serve:
155 (156)
Attack: 105 (108)
Defence: 97 (102)
Stamina: 98 (99)

Ace = 23% / 1st% = 80 / 2nd% = 52

Richard Williams (GBR)
Serve:
148 (151)
Attack: 97 (100)
Defence: 105 (107)
Stamina: 105 (105)

Ace = 8% / 1st% = 75 / 2nd% = 65

In the case of playing on a neutral hard court, both John Smith and Richard Williams have opposite Attack and Defence ratings, of 105 and 97, meaning both would remain the same.

If playing on a clay court though, John Smith has 108 attack points, and Richard Williams 105 defence points, so Smith would increase 3% (randomly allocated). When Williams is serving, he has 97 attack points and Smith has 102 defence points, so Williams would drop 5% (randomly allocated).

If playing on a grass court, John Smith has 105 attack points, and Richard Williams has 107 defence points, which will see Smith’s service games drop by 2% (randomly allocated). When Williams is serving, he has 100 points and Smith has 97 defence points, so Williams would increase 3% (randomly allocated).

From there, the games are worked out point by point.

First Serves

Ace % | Serve in | Fault %

A= 25% | In = 50% | F = 25%
A= 20% | In = 55% | F = 25%
A = 15% | In = 65% | F = 20%
A = 10% | In = 70% | F = 20%
A = 5% | In = 75% | F = 20%

Second Serves (Ace*0.25, DF -5%)

Ace % | Serve in | Fault %

A= 6.5% | In = 73.5% | F = 20%
A= 5% | In = 75% | F = 20%
A = 4% | In = 81% | F = 15%
A = 2.5% | In = 82.5% | F = 15%
A = 1% | In = 84% | F = 15%

Stamina:

Stamina comes into effect depending on the length of the match. Each service game is minus 1% and each return game is minus 2%. Tiebreakers are minus 3%. In a 6-0 6-0 match, players would lose 18% (six service games, six return games). In a 7-6 6-7 7-6 match, players would lose 63% (18 service games, 18 return games). In a Grand Slam where there are five tiebreakers, which would mean 105%.

Impacts from Stamina

50% stamina remaining = Drops 5% across all stats
40% stamina remaining = Drops 6% across all stats
30% stamina remaining = Drops 8% across all stats
20% stamina remaining = Drops 10% across all stats
10% stamina remaining = Drops 15% across all stats
0% stamina remaining = Drops 20% across all stats

Next Match Stamina Impact

Following each match, winning players will recover a certain percentage of their final stamina. Here is the table:

Second match in a tournament = Recover 100%
Third match in a tournament = Recover 95%
Fourth match in a tournament = Recover 85%
Fifth match in a tournament = Recover 75%
Sixth match in a tournament = Recover 65%
Seventh match in a tournament = Recover 50%

Note: There is a 5% starting stamina bonus for tournaments with 64 players, and 10% for tournaments with 128 players

MATCH EXAMPLE: John Smith vs. Richard Williams

John Smith (155)

Ace = 23% / 1st% = 80 / 2nd% = 52
First Serve = (Ace = 23% / In= 52% / Fault = 25%)
Second Serve = (Ace 6% / In = 74% / Fault = 20%)

Richard Williams (148)

Ace = 8% / 1st% = 75 / 2nd% = 65
First Serve (Ace = 8% / In = 72% / Fault = 20%)
Second Serve (Ace = 2% / In = 83% / Fault = 15%)

To make it easy, we will say the match is being played on a hardcourt ATP 250 event.

John Smith serves first. In this game, all points will be randomised out of 100:

First Serve = 26-100 (In) IF 77-100 (Ace) IF 1-25 = Fault
= If IN then 1-20 Returner wins point, 21-100 Server wins point (80% 1st%)
= If OUT then
Second Serve = 21-100 (In) IF 94-100 (Ace) IF 1-20 = Double Fault
= If IN then 1-48 Returner wins point, 49-100 Server wins point (52% 2nd%)

(Random number) / [Score]

(94 - Ace) / [15-0]
(77 - Ace) / [30-0]
(32 - In) (4) / [30-15]
(19 – Fault) (74 – In) (49) / [40-15]
(6 – Fault) (16 – DF) / [40-30]
(7 – Fault) (68 – In) (68) [Game – John Smith]

John Smith leads 1-0.

Aces: 2
DF: 1
1st%: 50%
2nd%: 83.3%
Total Points: 4

Lol sure, I have a memory of this a few years ago but it died off didn't it? What do I have to do?
You can pick an ATP player and a WTA player (can be made up name or real) and do this for each.

Name:
Tour:
Country:
Playing Style:
Preferred Court:

Depending on your choices of Playing Style and Preferred Court (from tournament to tournament), it will depend on the amount of points available for Ace%, 1st% and 2nd%.

Effectively think of it like Qooty where randomisers are used, but better players depending on surface and past success have better chances of success (though nothing guaranteed which gives underdogs a good shot).

I'll give an exhibition example of a match once two players are in and chosen.

You'll have a +7 bonus (points) to use for service % for the ATP player as a Serve-and-volleyer, and a +3 bonus for the WTA player.

First thought is I'll have to tinker so the service game win isn't so high. Effectively both players had around 75% chance of winning a point on serve. Phenom (84% first serve points won) and JN (80.4%) is incredibly high. John Isner is at 80% by comparison. Second serve success okay. Aces ridiculously high too, might have made them a bit too much (again right at the top echelon of the servers).

This is good though, allows me to tinker as we get more signups.

Sure - can you just give me what I had previously, or random attributes?
Different format, but yeah I can work out the attributes. We've got a men's and women's Tour this year, so just give me a couple of names, their preferred court surface and countries and then let me know what Player Style you want. I can do all the attributes.

Example:

Name: John Smith
Gender: Male
Country: USA
Player Style: Power baseliner
Preferred Court: Clay

Choose your Player Style:

a) Power baseliner (+5 Serve, +5 Attack, -3 Defence, -2 Stamina)
b) Serve-and-volleyer (+7 Serve, +3 Attack, -5 Defence)
c) Counter Puncher (+5 Defence, +5 Stamina, -3 Attack, -2 Serve)
d) All-Court (+2 Serve, +1 Attack, +1 Defence, +1 Stamina)
