Round 9 Premier League

North Hobart v Clarence

North Hobart meets Clarence in the return bout from round two when the Demons had the better of Clarence. The Demons have had a number of personnel changes since that game with a number of their players being called up for VFL duties. Clarence has come off an easy win over Brighton last week and will find this game more difficult. The small confines of the North Hobart ground will not worry the Clarence team as they have a number of players that have played many pressure games on this ground. North Hobart had hit a speed bump a number of weeks ago after a fine start to the season. They got themselves back on the winners list in their last game against Brighton and will be well rested after last week's bye. Clarence will no doubt deservedly go into this game as favourite and they sit on top of the ladder yet they will need to make sure that their match ups are spot on as the Demons have shown that if they are allowed to get their noses in front at any time during the game they will be hard to head.

Kingston v Glenorchy

Kingston and Glenorchy meet at the Kingston beach oval in a game that should be very entertaining and spirited. The Storm has promised much during the season but has been unable to put the four quarter effort onto the ground. The Tigers who have had to settle with promoting a number of their underage players because of their injury list to key players will be looking at this game to reestablish themselves. The signing of Trent Nicholls and Jason Philp over the past two weeks has strengthened them in the middle of the ground but they are still unable to convert up forward. Who ever gets the jump on the opposition on the small confines of the Kingston oval early will have the chance to run out with the game.

New Norfolk v Hobart

New Norfolk are at home to Hobart and they will be keen to continue on their winning way. The Hawks will find Hobart a different proposition than their opponents last week and will need to be on their game from the very start. Hobart have shown that they have the best team game going around at the moment, not having to rely on the same players each week to get themselves up. Coach Michael McGregor is starting to find his goal kicking form that we all knew he possessed and he was the difference between the sides last week. Together with a strong midfield and mean defence Hobart have the right recipe this year to go all the way. The Hawks will rely on getting the ball quickly out of the centre to give their big marking and hitting forwards the first use of the ball. In the wide open expanses of the Boyer Oval the side that has the legs at the end of the day will be the one that runs away with the game.

Round 9 Regional League

Dodges Ferry v Cygnet

At the half way mark of the Regional season and the five looks as if it is starting to take shape. The game of the round shapes up as the clash between Dodges Ferry and Cygnet at Shark Park. The Sharks have improved markedly since these two sides last met in round two but the frightening thing is that it would seem that Cygnet have also improved since then. Include the recent signing of the Brereton brothers; Matthew and Jeremy, to the Cygnet side and the Port are starting to look an awesome unit. The Sharks will endeavour to win the ball out of middle early on in the game to put real pressure on the Cygnet backs. The Port have not travelled well in the past and the only show that Dodges have of jumping their opponents will be to put them under scoreboard pressure. If Cygnet is allowed to take control of the game early a cricket score will ensue.

Kermandie v Claremont

Kermandie are at home to the Magpies and they will be looking at consolidating their position in the top three on the ladder. Claremont have struggled to put four quarters of consistent football together and their job against Kermandie will be one of their toughest this year. The Kangaroos, whilst they have been hard hit by injuries, continue to be able to put enough pressure on their opponents to get over the line . The Kangaroos will be looking to strengthen their side this week with the signing of Brendan Lorkin from Kingston. Lorkin will give the Kangaroos strength across the half back line enabling Adam Dermoudy to move further up the field. Claremont has struggled to match the intensity of their opposition for the entire game and this alone will see them struggle against the fitter Kermandie side.

Lauderdale v Huonville

Lauderdale are at home to the Huonville Lions and with the current form on the board you cannot go past the Cats. Lauderdale have flexed their muscles over the past few weeks and have registered some very impressive wins. Jim Penwright has been the star of the side and his continued good form is the key to the Cats recent climb up the ladder. Coach Anthony McConnon knows his side well and more importantly does his homework on the opposition sides. The use of his big men across half back has seen the opposition denied of scoring opportunities each week and with the Lions unable to get the forward structure operating for the full four quarters all indicators point to an easy Lauderdale

Lindisfarne v Channel

Lindisfarne is back at Anzac Park and hosts Channel. The Saints were victorious over the Two Blues in round two and this week should see them return to the winners list. The Two Blues have been very inconsistent with their high a few weeks ago in their win over Claremont. Since then they have been unable to produce that good form again and have been handed out some very heavy losses. The Saints have shown this past few weeks that they are capable of matching the sides in the five but do not have the class in the end to finish off the sides above them. This week will give the Saints the hope to keep their slim hopes of playing finals football alive.
