Should a suspension rule a player ineligible for the Rising Star award?

So does Dusty Martin and Corey McKernan get retrospective medals if you change the rules?

In light of Harley Reid's possible suspension. Should the Rising Star award be a "fairest" award like the Browlow Medal?

We dont penalise the Coleman medal Etc..
The report in The West Australian pretty much says he wont qualify if he is found guilty?

Yes, that's how I understand it. He will become ineligible through suspension.
Unless he gets off on the "he's a good bloke" or "But he's just a homesick kid" appeal

If The West Australian has turned on him, then I don't fancy his chances...

I posted in another thread that it's a really simple fix. You have two suspension types, intentional acts and careless acts.

If you're suspended for an intentional act, you are ineligible. If you are suspended for a careless act, you're eligible.

Make it this way for the brownlow as well and we won't have a situation where someone loses a brownlow because of a tackle.

I look at other sports around the world and just laugh at this.

NBA ROTY award imagine Wemby getting a suspension and not winning the award it just would never happen.

No he shouldn't lose an award for a suspension, the same goes for the Brownlow, they miss weeks and potentially miss votes that's punishment enough.

Not that either would happen, but McKernan has more of a claim since he actually received the most votes but wasn't awarded the medal due to suspension. In Martin's year they didn't vote for him at all as a result of being ineligible so you couldn't restrospectively hand him the award.

Or the AFL could manufacture a Cripps event and deliberately **** up the Tribunal so he gets off on appeal.

Honestly, I didn't even know suspension would make a Rising Star ineligible until Darcy got done in last night. I don't think it should, personally, but whatever, it is what it is.

Yeah it's weird, finding out the McKernan was made ineligible to win in 94 was a big shock especially since he missed out on the Brownlow two years later in the same fashion. It's weird too because the Rising Star has never been treated as the Best & Fairest kid, just the best.

More to this, according to the below report the AFL expects the Rising Star judges will still vote for Reid (and Darcy). Yet in 2022, Horne-Francis who was ineligible received no votes, like Martin in 2010, despite both being worthy of at least some votes. Means they're changing the way they adjudicate this purely because Reid is the favourite - to further diminish the credibility of this mickey mouse award.
