Was having a discussion with some mates at work about players that win games after the siren, and there it was a mate of mine come up with the scenario
"what if travis cloke took a mark 30 meters out directly in front to win you a flag this year" i actually got sick and got that butterfly feeling in my stomach, because i actually sat there and thought how i would feel if it really happened!
Personally i think i would actually be very close to spewing, I probably couldnt watch and be shaking heaps!
If you sit there and just picture it all happening, you should get that feeling, because you know.. this is it! this kick we win flag, he misses a whole year for nothing!

Honestly Cloke from 30m I would give a 40/60 shot...Cloke from 15m out is more of a 20/80 proposition...

Who would of thought that would be the case for an AFL player...let alone a FORWARD for the team on TOP of the ladder

We need Jack...John...Anthony...whatever his first name is (;)) in the team, whether he is a defender or forward, we need him for this reason alone..and he'll do it "RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!!!"

I know what your saying, but geelong have the same problem with mooney! I dont know what it is these days, but if u look back in the 90s.. not many FF or CHFS would miss so many goals! i honestly think its a mind thing, nothing to do with the football or the boots its all in the mind

Yeah they did, Lowe, spalding, kernhan missed a goal after the siren

Sav rocca wasn't flash from close

McKenna dunstall and Lockett were freaks but time has made the others seem better.

On jack it's great being a good kick, but if you struggle to get the ball.....

Only put him forward in the last 5 mins of the game :D Has been playing great in the VFL (from others accounts) which would mean that he is next in line...though we seem to have an abundance of defenders now

Mooney is bad...at certain times...but never a 20/80 from 15m out...I would be interested in Clokes stats over the last 2-3 years from 15m area...Mooney is more around a 40/60 from 15m

I lie in bed at night torturing myself with different horrendous scenarios. I imagine us being five points down and Dids marks thirty out dead in front-it's the 32 minute mark-and Dawes is alone in the square. Dids decides to play on and chip to Dawes and the siren sounds while the ball is floating toward Dawes' open hands!!!!

Meh, Trav would just go down with a hammy injury and the ball would be given to the closest player, which would be DIDS.

Premiership here we come :D

Didn't Brian Lake do that a Few Years Ago?

Knowing our Luck in Previous GF that could happen:eek:

And it's great being able to get the ball but if you can't kick...

We can do this all day ;)

Give me trav at his career average of 59% of Anthony any day of the week.

Trav is twice the forward Anthony is

If Trav is having a shot at goal after the siren to win us the flag, it means;

1. We are in a Grand Final.
2. We are good enough to win a GF.
3. We are a 50% chance of winning that GF (my assesment of Cloke 30 meters out)
4. Some of our players have played amazingly well in a GF.

I'd prefer Cloke to be having the shot then Steve Johnson, that's for sure.

Mate thats worst than my thought lmao, but honestly that wouldnt happen because didak would know at the 32 minute mark not to play on, he would just pull his socks up think about the position is, and when it threads the eye of a needle, you would never experience a roar like that ;-)

S**t, that's a bloody good answer. ROFL

Yet Anthony has done something in his first year as a forward that Cloke hasn't managed once in his career, kicked 50 goals in a season. I think you're underrating accuracy. Getting the ball is nice, doing something useful with it is far more important. When Cloke has better than 50% accuracy (He's at 48% this year), THEN he'll be twice the forward, but until then all the constested marks in the world don't outweigh his woeful kicking.

Had a similar situation happen in a final a few years back. One of our forwards marked the ball about 30m out on a tightish angle, well within his range. Their defender was complaining to the umpire that he was held and wasn't paying attention. Our boy played on... running into an open goal..... siren blows.

We lost by 4 points:(

Chris kicked 2 behinds(only) in the 2002 GF, but I cant remember how difficult.

Could not handle being admirable in defeat again, rather loose by 20

Chris was also a rather good set shot in 2002 and yet come the grand final missed two gimme goals

Zahki without wanting to get into a shit storm...

You are over exaggerating clokes goal kicking in 2010

Travis has kicked 4 goals in prelim, actually competes with his defender in the air instead of being owned, Travis doesn't need perfect delivery to be dangerous jack does.

A forward like jack that needs perfect delivery in finals is as useful as **** on a bull, a forward like trav that clunks everything coming his way be it contested, hurried kick or floater is worth it's weight in gold.

Trav has also kicked fir him very accurately in finals, compared with jack who struggled to get a kick in 4 of his five finals (even the kne I'm giving him he wasn't flash).

Also on this years percentage it was over 50% until the Carlton game (21-17)

On contested marking forwards, so according to you riewoldt until 2007/8 when his kicking improved was useless? Tredrea 2001-2005 was useless, Lowe useless? Anthony and sav rocca useless?

All fantastic marks all horrible shots at goal until 25/26.

A forward that can only mark in space is half a forward, sure I wish trav would finish better, but come finals pressure and contested work I trust he'll win more then his fair share of ball, jack well we saw late last season, then finals, then his work this season
