I wouldn't necessarily go as far as all that, but some carry on as if we delisted Voss, Brown & Black, or traded them for Tambling, Roe & Sheldon.
Their loss will be felt, but their absence won't exactly make a difference to our season either.

I seem to be having the same argument on two different threads.



Redden is a much better clearance player than Bastinac, and obviously Jansen and Mathieson. And Redden obviously doesn't have any trouble finding the ball. He was good at reading contested situations and getting there, even if he didn't always get there first. That's not a skill Bastinac has, unfortunately.

Redden had some weaknesses in his game but I think we should resist talking him down. He is a significant loss.

He is a loss but I am going to beg to differ to say he was a big loss, he was averaging 23-24 possessions, which is average. He is also quite one paced... a solid B grader, a good player without being a star and I was pleased when we got pick 17 for him. If he becomes an A grader at WC good luck to him, the move worked.

I saw not just him but the team losing contested possession all year and while stats dont tell you everything, the stats do bore that out. We were smashed in contested ball all year. His tackle numbers were consistently high, when you are first to the ball you dont have to tackle as much (obviously).

I dont know if you have seen Jansen, because I have not, but he does come with a big rep as a clearance player, added to that the Lions have been monitoring him all year suggests he is here to fill a specific gap. Bastinac is better as an inside mid, frees up others to play more outside. It all starts in the middle with contested ball, if we get smashed in contested ball again we will have the same results. A few bigger bodies are going to help.

I agree with Ironmonger that Redden is the main loss. Pick your best 22 from the current list and Redden is the only one of those that left/were delisted that would improve the 22, if only marginally. We only need one player to step up to cover his loss.

Redden appeared to me to be cruising last year. Hopefully the trade will work for both him and the club. As others have said pick 17 was good value and if Redden steps up to an A grader then good luck to him.

I feel like this trade season is another crazy vossy moment for the club in that we kick out the door our loyal players like Jed and Leuenberger, our young players in Aish and Redden couldn't wait to get the **** out of the club and we and trade for fringe cast-offs from other clubs who'll probably all be delisted in 3-4 years.

Seriously? If you compare the current period to 2009 then I'm highly sceptical you have any football knowledge. Adcock and Leuenberger were both loyal servants but we probably have 4 or 5 players who fill the Adcock role and need to play games.

Leuy promised a lot but honestly he won't be missed based on actual production.

It's like we have lost 4 of the games greats by the way people carry on.

We are a bottom club and have been for the past few years, that's means we have to turn over the list.

Walker and Bastinac will fill roles in the side as the highly rated youngsters mature. The draft was one of our best in the past 20 years, well hopefully based on expectations of the players
