What's happening?
It's all staticky but I think it's my laptop because now I've lost volume entirely. I'll try it on my smart tv when I set it up outside, soon.

Ah yeah, didn't have that happen.

Wolfmother seem to have been around longer, but from Wiki...

Wolfmother began recording their full-length debut studio album in California with producer Dave Sardy in May 2005
Yep. All good. Band formed in 2004, but they made their first recordings in 2005
Surely when we speak of "debuts" we are referring to their first single, EP or album and not the time they first rehearsed in dad's garage.

It probably seems like they've been around for longer because they're rehashing the hard rock sounds of the 70's. :)

Why is it some unlucky bands are singled out for being derivative when 99.9% of artists sound like somebody else?
It shits me the way mindless sheep just echo the same narrative over and over about a band* or song or album

The Top 40 would be pretty minimal if we disqualified every song which borrowed musical signatures from past greats

*Mike Patton is, of course, a god. Everything he has ever done is pure genius and highly original. If he says Wolfmother suck, then who am I to argue?

Greta Van Fleet is Led Zeppelin 40 years later.

Well, GVF are kind of ludicrous because as skilled as they are, they sound like a Led Zep parody. Are they taking the piss or what?
It's an incredible fascimile they perform with the Jimmy Page licks and the Robert Plant howls. It's so bang on, it's startling

I'm sure I would enjoy them immensely if I was pissed and saw them play at my local. But they can't do what they do and expect no criticism

My own personal criticism of Wolfmother is not that they sound like Led Zep & Sabbath. It's that they don't have any balls. Their songs are screaming out for more bottom end & power. They just sound a bit lightweight and radio-friendly. If I turn up the volume, it's just becomes a bit of an annoying racket. But maybe that's just me.

Just on that Patton vs Wolfmother video, he says that he's doing a record of 60s Italian music with an orchestra and then slams Wolfmother by wondering "what year is this?" Is he taking the piss?

According to Wiki Wolfmother released an EP that charted in 2004 so no idea how they're eligible.
Oops, I saw that their debut album was released 2005 but didn't think to check any EPs.

Oh well, can't do anything about that now so it's up to others how they want to vote.
