Good morning from the 'Rat. It's been mostly raining since yesterday evening and the ground has been thoroughly drenched. Like an English cricket wicket that mysteriously became wet overnight, the 'Rat has turned on the cold & wet to great these interstate surf bunnies. The ball may even swing early (even without sand paper) but is just as likely to get stuck in the pitch and just float in place on a puddle. In horse racing terms the track has gone from firm to heavy.
These conditions will favour an older more experienced line up, lots of smalls and a dominant tap ruckman.
Note: did someone tell our MC that we were playing at the 'Rat today and that we needed an experienced line up? No?
The clouds will rule the day and any 'softies' coming up the highway must be aware it's winter time. The fakes from the Coast won't have experienced anything like this cold. Your nose starts to running as soon as you get outside.
Enjoy the game and there are some great pubs, bars and restaurants to warm up at afterwards.
Tip: bring gumboots, raincoats, beanies, scarfs and a good sense of humour. You are going to get wet, just be a tough man and laugh about it.
