What I would like to see cemented by mid season:
B: Webster, Wilkie, Tauru
HB:Wanganeen-Milera, Caminiti, Travaglia
C: Wood, Phillipou, Wilson
HF: Henry, Sharman, Higgins
F: Owens, King, Butler
R: Marshall, Macrae, Sinclair
Int: Steele, Hill, Clark, Windhager
Sub: Garcia

Yeah I think JWeb is a lock. He's really our only lockdown defender when it comes to small forwards.

I could see Travaglia being that Hardwick type small defender, taking kickouts and swinging on ball or forward as needed but we need Stocker (or... someone) to really take that role on.

There's a spot up for grabs in the next couple of years if anyone's brave enough to take it.
McLennan can be that lockdown defender or O’Connell if he continues his development trajectory

So no one picking a young guy who was picked no less than fives last year!!

Admittedly, he was a submarine - AKA ‘sub’ and he’s boots touched grass only four times.

But he kicked a goal.

So what’s up with Angus Hastie?

Not good enough? Already passed?

What this tells me is that draft bias / new recruit bias is doing its thing.

my hope is barrat is ready round 1,if so he into the backline, hammer onto the bench and one of mids on the bench to sandy, but mindset is go into round one all out to win,so im going with all established players at this point,

jones byrnes stocker carroll and hall will be sweating on clark dow and garcia,no wriggle room for seven of them(exc garcia)those 7 are fighting for their 2026 lives & will be given every oppurtunity

6 main list draftees to be given plenty of time, but rewarded if form and development demands

trigger finger itchy to bring arie and hastie in quickly of the rest

He has potential for the future, but he was generally miles off the pace in the senior games he played this year and was far from setting the world on fire in the VFL as well.

I’d say the only reason he got games was because we just had so many injuries to those who play the sort of roles he could play, and we had little other choice but to play him.

Travaglia will probably shoot past him in the pecking order, but time will tell.

Jesus, he's a one year player who has already gone ok as depth.
He may develop into a gun, i think he has a lot of good attributes.
Its not like buying a new car, where you get what you drove out of the showroom.

Ok then. That opinion is forthright and tells us something about the drafting process and how fans react in general terms.
Basically, Hastie was lucky to be drafted, and fortuitous to be selected. The point I think is not that he was off the pace AFL wise, but that he was ordinary VFL wise.

Nice. I think Henry makes the cut if fit, and maybe Byrnes pushes Jones off the bench. Get a feeling Clarks position also under threat from Carrol, but happy to start with Hunter.

Round 1, barring injuries.

B. Travaglia Howard Wilkie

H.B. Hastie Barrat NWM

C. Henry Phillipou Wilson

H.F. Butler Tauru Garcia

F. Higgins King Sharman

Foll. Marshall Steele Sinclair

I/C. Hill, Jones, Windhager, Wood,  Macrae-sub- hehe.

Emerg. Caminiti, Clark, Heath, Owens
3x debutantes and 3x second years ay? Top marks for enthusiasm l say.

Bias is everywhere, particularly this time of year. No one is immune.

Our best 22 starting next season, is probably the team who were wining games late this season (minus Battle). I expect Wilson and Byrnes to keep improving, and you would need to ask who is going to make way in the back half, midfield, forward half. I would expect a backup young ruck to start getting a few senior games, and maybe Henry to get back in the seniors anyway. I can only see a few who may be under pressure- Jones, Clark, Dow and maybe Butler

I didn’t say or imply for one second that he was lucky to be drafted, I have no issue at all with us having drafted him, but this year I just don’t believe he was anywhere near ready for senior football, and that he wouldn’t have been anywhere near the senior team had it not been for the fact we were smashed by injuries in those areas he can play.

Hopefully he’ll be a lot more ready next season, but it also won’t surprise me in the least if TT goes past him in the pecking order, which would make it harder for him to get a look-in.

If everyone was fit, in form and available, I think this would be our best available team if we had to play for our lives.

B: Wilkie Howard Webster

HB: Wangmil Caminiti Sinclair

C: Wood Steele Wilson

HF: Hill Sharman Henry

F: Higgins King Owens

R: Marshall Phillipou Macrae

I: Clark Butler Windy Dow Garcia

E: Carroll Stocker Jones Byrnes Schoenmaker Travaglia Tauru

Can’t see that team losing a game! 🤣

I dont expect many changes to the best 22.

FB: Webster Howard Wilkie
HB: Sinclair * NWM
C: Hill Steele Brynes
HF: Henry King Owens
FF: Higgins Sharman Butler
R: Marshall Macrae Phillipou

I/C: Clark, Wood, Wilson, Windy

Sub: Garcia.

No idea who to out at CHB. Maybe Arie?

I also want to fit Caminiti in the side but couldn't drop one of the mids so this side would have Wood splitting his wing/fwd time fairly evenly.
