Ignoring any health issues, surely tauru could play battles role with Wilkie playing the second stopper role when needed. Bring in cordy this season if you need 2 stoppers and rest the viewing or play him forward.
He said in his interview when he was drafted that his aim was R1. If everything goes smooth and he plays well in the lead up games you’d think he’s a massive chance. Him or barrat have a pretty big opportunity to play a role down back early

First crack at it looks like this

B: Webster, Howard, Wilkie
Hb: Sinclair, caminiti, NAS
C: wood, macrae, Wilson
Hf: Henry, king, Garcia
F: Higgins, Sharman, Owens
Foll: Marshall, Steele, phillipou
Int: windhager, Hill, Butler, clark
Sub: Byrnes

Emer: stocker, Dow, caroll, schoenmaker,

Biggest questions for me

Unsure if caminiti plays down back, but we definitely need 2 talls plus Wilkie. Whether barrat is right to play straight away, or there go with cordy (puke) will be interesting.

I don't mind the mobile forward set up of king, then two mediums in Sharman and Owens, plus Higgins who plays as a full forward, the issue is still with who second rucks. If caminiti plays forward he is the obvious option, but don't want to see Owens or Sharman in there.

Midfield looks pretty pedestrian with all of Steele, macrae and poo in there, but doubt we ever roll out that combo. Would either be a windhager, Henry, Garcia or Sinclair in there to inject some pace. Maybe Dow starts ahead of Clark to negate this.

Butler will hopefully have a few young bucks vying for his spot, hoping collard, said, and Garcia get plenty of opportunity.

Only room for 1 of Webster, stocker, McLennan in the team to lock down the best small, and personally think stocker isn't quick enough for this.

You would think they will give tauru and trav plenty of opportunities to play games. Boxshall looks like he may be more of a project along with Dodson in the twos.

This looks spot on to me.
My only comment is that RTB likes to have a hbf on the bench. Clark could be the hbf option but I suspect they lean towards Trav or Arie based on preseason form. Which probably leaves Windy as the sub.

Oh yeah, he's 18 isn't he? Surely he can simply replace 26YO Battle.

I mean you’ve corrected your own statement here but how can he be on notice after a top 10 bnf finish …

Clearly playing a role and not going to be that mid the fans wanted

Can he improve yes, will he be on notice .. obviously not
Every player should be on notice - the consequences will differ though

FB: Webster - Wilkie - Clark
HB: Sinclair - Howard - Wang-Mil
CL: Wood - Macrae - Hill
HF: Wilson - Sharman - Henry
FF: Higgins - King - Owens
RR: Marshall - Steele - Pillipou
Int: Caminiti - Garcia - Windhager
Butler
Emg: Travaglia, Shoemaker, Dow

Being a Debbie downer but if I’m being honest all in all we come away looking weaker than last year without Battle and Membery imo. Improvement from our young players, most importantly Phillipou but also King, Owens, Windy, Wilson, Garcia, Shoey and some impact from Travalgia and Taru seems important if we want to move up the ladder.

Expecting a tough year ahead, hoping for a revelation.

That’s a very short back 50!

We haven’t been particularly close to full strength the whole time under Ross, this time around (and for much of the time we’ve been miles off it, especially in the early rounds of both seasons), so if we were actually able to field this team we’d be bloody hard to beat.

The midfield in particular would be light years better than the one we fielded most weeks in the first half of this year, which was simply not of AFL standard.

No surprise that once we were able to field a half decent one in the 2nd half of the year, the wins started flowing again.

Imagine adding a fitter and vastly better Pou, Macrae, a hopefully fitter Clark (or Carroll), hopefully fitter Windy, and Dow, to that midfield from the first half of the year! Would be an insane upgrade.
No mention of Garcia or Hall…never mind you’ll come round!

I didn’t say or imply for one second that he was lucky to be drafted, I have no issue at all with us having drafted him, but this year I just don’t believe he was anywhere near ready for senior football, and that he wouldn’t have been anywhere near the senior team had it not been for the fact we were smashed by injuries in those areas he can play.

Hopefully he’ll be a lot more ready next season, but it also won’t surprise me in the least if TT goes past him in the pecking order, which would make it harder for him to get a look-in.
Mmn….I thought someone said he was pretty ordinary in the VFL, so, on that basis, perhaps it is premature to conclude he was lucky to get drafted at #33.

In anycase, he is invisible in these best 22 lists, that’s for sure, so I’m thinking he may not make the cut period.

He was however, a promising cricketer, so perhaps he could open the batting for Australia in Adelaide. Alongside McSweeney, it might not be out of place or unreasonable given the situation

As of now...
FB: Webster Howard Stocker
HB: NWM Wilkie Sinclair
C: Wilson Macrae Wood
HF: Hill King Owens
FF: Higgins Caminiti Sharman
R: Marshall Steele Phillipou
I/C: Windhager Clark Byrnes Henry

Emg: Boyd Schoenmaker Dow Butler

What I hope it looks like by the end of the year...
FB: Schoenmaker Howard Wilkie
HB: NWM Tauru Sinclair
C: Wilson Windhager Wood
HF: Henry King Owens
FF: Higgins Caminiti Sharman
R: Marshall Steele Phillipou
I/C: Keeler Macrae Hill Garcia
Sub: Byrnes
Emg: Heath Trav Clark Collard

Really tough exercise as always at this time of year.

Ultimately I think we'll end up around the same as where we were this year, think we'll see a lot of natural progression as some of the youngsters step up, but that will be cancelled out a bit due to the inexperienced players coming in for the low ceiling experienced players we had this year.

I think we could maybe sneak into finals if we really wanted to, but I'd rather we get some experience into the youth as soon as their fitness and form warrants it.

It's starting to look like a decent list though and it would want to as we're probably not getting many more early picks and free agents are still a pipedream at this stage.

A few people have mentioned it but there's a sneaky suspicion that Tauru might end up at CHF, with Barrat being the CHB option, and Hammer holding down FB.

We then have the luxury of swapping them as needed.

Entirely possible that Tauru plays back for a year or two to develop but with his marking and aggression he'd be an ideal partner for King.

??? - Caminiti - ???
Arie - Barrat* - Travaglia*
NWM - ??? - Wilson
Owens - Tauru* - Henry
Higgins - King - Sharman
??? - Phillipou - Windhager

*Yet to debut

Keeler, Moose and now Dodson all fighting to succeed RoMa.

There's a spot in the back pocket up for grabs. JWeb has been a warrior but if someone (Stocker, Carrol, Hastie, McLennen, The Irish boys?) wants to bust arse and learn how to lock down on small forward then the opportunity is there.

Dow, Clark, Carrol, Stocker, Garcia all still young enough to claim spots. Plenty of us have said that Boxshall just feels like a Ross Lyon play so he could be given a fair shake too.

There's spots up for grabs in our young/developing core but the biggest thing that sticks out is flexibility. Outside of Higgins being locked in as a small forward, every player in that team can play multiple roles.

Too much peroxide has leeched into Dermie’s dome ffs.

Why it is even a proposal being put forward is beyond me.
Well , one thing I think King knows more than most- how to get scragged and crunched as a pack forward.

Perhaps he could put the pent up anger to use.

But yes, whilst he’s a marker not a spoiler, another possibility, is that we could invent a new position template - a roaming lanky marker. Like Howard on steroids with skills to boot.

Wouldn't mind Keeler in the pocket alongside Max with non-negotiable team rules that they separate and lead in different directions even if one is purely a decoy. This also opens up an opportunity for at least one other player to get into space to take a grab close to goal. Keeler only has to take a few big marks for oppositions to realise that he can't be left alone.

There is zero reason to move him from the forward line. None, zip, zilch.

Its a big ask to expect any of the newer kids to fill Battles position, Caminiti is probably the only young player capable of the role. Perhaps we still look at Phillips to fill the SSP rookie position or a player like Mason Wood to move back. Obviously we recruited Barrat to play a key defender position, Tauru is more of the 3rd tall intercepting swingman but both will need to be given some time.

I wouldnt think the club are expecting Cordy to play a role other than a break glass in emergency.
