Everyone knows 19 teams will be horrid , there is no clear pathway to a suitable team 20

There’s too many teams in VIC

Both these clubs have been struggling to make ends meet for years

Squash them together and they’d have a hell of a list but they still have a salary cap to meet so I doubt it would be an instant super team

Tassie gets a nice core of depth out of the players who miss out

I’m sure people will go “ you wouldn’t want it if it was your team but I dunno …. footys much more fun when your teams good and your clubs strong I know that

It’s a perfect solution to a whole host of problems , will save the league a fortune and a few fans might turn away from the game but I doubt too many stay away if the Roos/Saints start winning

27 years without a premiership. When do we give up and admit that Perth is just too small for 2 top level clubs. Maybe Fremantle can merge with Souths or Easts and join the WAFL - Seems more their speed.

I have had this thought since I was a little kid that there were too many Victorian teams in the "Australian Football League". In future there will have to be big salary cap expansions to deter the rise of soccer in Australia, which means clubs will need to have bigger revenue pools. I think it makes sense to look at merging smaller Victorian clubs to achieve this and enable faster salary cap expansions. Saint Kilda Saints is ridiculous so might as well go Saint Kilda Roos.

If it was voting with your feet it would be a close run thing

Now that's funny.
If you really wanted change, instead of just sooking on here, voting with your feet would tell the AFL how you really feel.

But you keep paying for membership, you keep going to games or keep watching on TV, it seems you don't really care too much.

You can stop fantasising about mergers. The way the AFL is set up now with revenue distribution, this is never going to happen.

The only way I could see it happening, is a urge drop off in revenue and they couldn't afford to keep all clubs. And countering that, they would probably lower revenue for all teams.
