Number 4 for WA under 18s, plays for WP colts.

he played a good game against NSW, playing on the wing and didnt have one rest so has good endurance, he also has a great kick and an awsome leap and tackle

do you guys think he will get drafted?

i think he will go pick 30-45

From [Re: WA Watch - Who you'll see come draft day; #37]
<<<Stephen Hill is a good call by one poster, comes out of Quinns juniors but been in WP colts for a couple of years now. Suffered a bit early I think from being in weak teams with lack of coaching (only game plan: kick it to Stephen) but whereas the above poster called him skinny, I would have said wiry strength and this kid has a big motor. Left footed from memory but capable on the right (cf Rich). If I had to pick an existing AFL player he most resembles, I'd probably say Jared Brennan. Big call, I know, but ...>>>
Lifted from an earlier post - haven't seen Stephen since but it seems his stocks are up!

Anyone got his measurements or know the way he plays?

Listed as 182cm and 72kg on the U18 Championships WA list.

Can play almost any non-key position (midfield/wing/flanks/pockets), at AFL level I envisage him playing a flanker/wingman role. Plays with tremendous enthusiasm, has an incredible workrate (clocked up 15km in the NSW/ACT game!), line-breaking, explosive speed, tackles ferociously, is a v.good mark for his size (very nice leap too) and a solid kick. Some queries over body size (very slight - will he be able to put on enough strength/size to have an impact in contests at AFL level?) and balance (can lose his feet at times and get pushed off the ball fairly easily in contests).

Unsure on draft position without seeing any of the VM/SA boys. I'd hazard a guess at 2nd round at this early stage, but moving up the rankings fast. Read on EFH the other day that apparently the Geelong and Sydney recruiters don't rate him that highly.

Steven is a terrific young player, and a fantastic prospect that will have recruiters salivating.

Has had a tremendous championships so far, showing off his dazzling speed and gut running, hard attack at the ball and nice leap, whilst gathering possesions at will.

Foot skills are good wqithout being superb. His work rate and hunger for the football are top notch, and will be a real excitement package in the AFL.

As far as draft position goes, I'd say late first round to late second round pick.

Has been one of the performers of the carnival though, so could easily rocket up to close to the top 10.

Stephen is certainly a player to keep your eye on.

This kid can play.

I really hope he ends up at WC so he can use the wide open space of Subi.

It's very very early, but I reckon he'll go a lot earlier than what most would have him at this stage. Not only is Stephen a gut runner, he is v.tough in the contest and knows how to find the pill.

West perth colts boy only one to make state 18's
185 cm i thought and 72 kg. Plays as a floating HBF and winger who can go onball. Has a massive carnival so far and i am unsure how geelong and sydney can say they dont rate him a source would be good.

I think he is simialr to Grant Birchall HBF/winger. This kid has the best kick and one of the best in the carnival. He must go top 30 as he is a chance for Larke Medal and should be an All Austalian for sure. Good skills, good mark, great speed (2.79 for 20 metres) , good endurance (runs high 14 beeps low 15's and ran 15 km in a game against NSW).

Hope that helps

pick 17 he will go with eagles second pick i have that feeling. He could go between 10 and 30 though. Freo and WC will snap him up with there 2nd pick and freo may trade warnock or Mundy to get a pick 15 or so.

Interesting read this thread.

It seems like everyone's talking this kid up to be the best thing since sliced bread, but then when they've finished describing his numerous positive traits, they tout him as being a 2nd round pick, whereas given the descriptions of him, he sounds like a top 10 pick

I guess what I'm asking is that if he's such a gun, why is he only expected to go in the 2nd round? What's stopping him from being a really high pick? Are there any significant weaknesses in his game?

He doesnt have any major weaknesses, He sometimes doesnt find the footy enough i trained with him at colts and he needs to work on his right foot kicking.

He has never played state before and probably at the start of the year still wasnt expected to get there. Scouts wouldnt have seen much of him before the state games this carnival?

Plenty of love.

There are other threads.

Top 20 pick in your opinion Sinepari..? Will he slip above Trengove and/or Swift because of their injury setbacks in your eyes..?

I like the looks of him a lot, looks composed when he has the ball, looks strong overhead and looks to have a nice set of skills. I'll tip him around pick 15. :D

I think Stephen Hill is goin to be one of the best Australia has ever seen, he is so dedicated, agile and thinks, and live for footy.
I may be a little biased , I am his great uncle from England, but this lad has real talent and a lot more to offer.
Go HILLY.

you think?

seen eagle scouts watching him alot. He played WAFL league on the weekend and did well in the first half then shut down his player in the last half as a HBF/Wing.

Expect the eagles to not let him go any higher than there 2nd pick eg: pick 18

The eagles may think about taking him if Rich is taken before there 2nd or 3rd pick but i doubt it.

Ok this lad is one of the very best, he is still young and may have a bit to learn, but he is dedicated to the game, he will be there with the greats.
Bragging great uncle or not this lad has got what it takes.

I would take him with a pick in the 30's

Not routinely clean and his decision making can be a little off to warrant a top 20 pick in a strong draft.

He wont be around in the 30's.
