Lot of heat towards Bolton but about time some heat came SOS’ way too.

Building a list with such a laughably bad midfield and no small forwards is so poor. How can you expect to win any games of footy when you have such a flawed list week to week?

The Stocker trade could haunt us for years. Lucky Stocker looks like he could play.

That is 15, mostly recycled players in 3 years that he has bombed on. I don't care about the hows or whys SOS and his team have stuffed way to many choices up for the precarious situations we started in.

That list could grow by another 5 by years end.

SOS got a first rounder for chris yarran. nuff said.

seriously though the list is fine. raw and unexpienced but talented. they've shown on many occasions they can compete with AFL players no problem. there aren't many better midfields around the bulldogs and collingwood and we went toe to toe with them just fine.

but particularly lately it seems very clear this isn't a team, it's just 22 players running around playing football like the auskick kids. no structure, positioning totally lost at sea and no discernible method of moving the ball other than 'kick on head of big guy'.

SOS hasn't been perfect but it's pretty clear that bolton just doesn't know what he's doing.

SoS has done fine most of the players we have drafted in the last 3 years will be solid best 22 the problem is there is not one single quality 100+ game player out on the park at the minute.

We need all of Murphy, Thomas, Jones, Simpson, Docherty out on the park to be competitive and without them the kids are going to struggle to stay in games long enough to get us results.

His first 2 years were excellent. Drafting and trading

The most recent 2 don’t look to be too impressive.

That trade with Adelaide is an absolute disaster and will go down as one of the worst trades ever.

Overall I would give him one more off season with a new coach, if that fails, he is gone

We should keep SOS & Agresta.

List management is not the problem.
Player development is a black hole at Carlton and has been for 20 yrs.

SOS trading of players isn't great though. Kennedy, Lang, Newman just from today's games aren't going to be their in 2 or 3 years time.

Price paid for each? You can't hit the draft for too end quality and turnover the lower end all at once. We were coming from a long way back with the Rogers/Malthouse basket case.

Kennedy and Newman should, and will, be a part of our future.

Just heard the Bolton press conference. Does anyone else feel he had an indirect crack at SOS and CO at the end? Basically said the age profile of the team is supposed to get older year-on-year but that hasn't happened at Carlton. Sounds like he's frustrated with the lack of mature players he's had available to him.

No, just reinforcing the depth of the rebuild. He knows they are building for sustained success not sugar hits.

There's legitimate criticism for some of SOS' choices, but that's micro-level stuff (to borrow from Gecko on the Carlton Show). The big picture strategy is fine. There's not going to be another strip and rebuild of the list anytime soon, even if Bolton loses his job. I daresay that if/when the head coach job becomes available, there will be coaches licking their lips at the prospect of working with this list.

No doubt there will be busts and continued turnover - that happens to premiership teams, let alone a rebuilding one. But I think the only decision that will keep SOS up at night will be the pick swap with the Crows, and even then, if you're backing your head coach, you can at least understand the decision-making process behind it.

Put another way, SOS has gone down a similar path to his build at GWS, and that is bearing fruit a number of years after that process began. AND they had the benefit of bringing across A-grade talent in their prime. Even still, nailing each draft and trade is impossible and their list needed continual improvement after the initial phase. With extra players on the list, too.

SOS has done a very good job overall. Let him keep doing that job and the team will get even better. He isn't perfect of course. But nothing suggests he's blown this out his backside.

No. Sos approached older players, they would not and probably will not come until we demonstrate the capacity for success
