Apologies if this thread already exists. Given the calibre of performance Motlop now exemplifies week in week out, I thought it was a good idea to create a thread to monitor his current hamstring issue.

From what I saw in the coverage of the game, it wasn't serious at all. Described as slight hamstring tightness. After the game Motlop told Cameron Ling that he had no history of hamstring injuries.

However today I read in a few articles re last nights performance that he was in doubt for next week. Anybody know if this is the case?

I think they had it planed to have a rest anyway. So considering his importance they may give him a week.

I think he said that it was planned to sub him off some time in the next 2 games, rather than having a game off; but they may take the latter option.

He's such an exciting player who is now critical to our structure. If he doesn't play this week in our crucial clash with Sydney then Varcoe is going to have to step up big time.

Or Smedts, or Chappy, or GHS, or Murdoch. But would love Varcoe to play a big game v Swans, perfect entree for finals.

No resting! You dont rest a player who is in great form. Besides, this is Sydney and a top 2 spot is up for grabs. We need our best players on the ground. Chris Scott said there was nothing there so there is nothing there. And if they are worried, make him the sub, or sub him off at half time like the Eagles game. But resting him now when he has such massive momentum going is so supremely bad. This is the second last week of the season; no more resting, this is it, our team this week should be settled and the team going in.

I don't think there is anything wrong with Managing/Resting someone like a Corey, Kelly or a Bartel this week (its been a long hard season and these guys can't play every single game anymore, a little rest might be just the thing they need in order for a big finals campaign) this allows us to bring in Chapman and have another look at Murdoch.

Didn't know where to stick this and didn't want to create a thread, but SEN is reporting Motlop is close to signing which is good news.
In the Herald Sun too, and they are reporting he will sign for significantly less than market rate in line with the Cats' salary policy of having a fixed number of players in each band.

Hope it is true!
Was a little worried he has his brothers "selfish" nature and might shop himself around, I should know better of course....

What I can't believe is how we snared Motlop. Its a "blue-chip" name in football, and we got him at pick 39. I know he had a shoulder injury as a kid, but wow wee, another inspired selection by Mr Wells.

The name was damaged goods in some circles, a perception of unfulfilled talent.

Correct me if i'm wrong but didnt we get his pick from Essendon in the Prismall trade?

and if he is getting pen to paper, that is AWESOME news...
We need to get these things locked away as we have plenty more down the list to get re-signed too...

So thanks Prizza!

And once again, ad nauseaum, thanks Mr Wells!

If he is fully fit (which they seem to be saying), he might play this week and just maybe get rested against Brisbane. Although I'd be really reluctant to do so given the form he's in.

Correct. :thumbsu:

Wonder what type of deal is being offered. A guess would be 3 year $400,000 considering his potential. Would attract close to $500,00 from some other clubs you would think.

Its not only a credit to Motlop but also the GFC for his current form. Being a young player there wouldn't be many other clubs you would want to go to with the development Geelong gives, as-well as learning from the experienced players.

Well Yarran is reportedly looking for 600k per year. And id have Mots valued better than Yarran. More upside. Think Yarrran is WAY high...

Both methaphorically and literally..

Yarran or Betts? Thought I heard that Betts was after 600k a year and that was pretty much laughed at.

I love the fact that our guys (on the most part) are willing to take less money to stay together and look for sustained club success rather than just "looking after the individual". And it does seem that those that are looking for more money end up having to leave the club and that would play a part in making the group tighter as they know those that stay are staying for the right reasons and that the club won't be held hostage by individuals.

I'm glad we don't seem to have had issues with players and contracts like we have seen from Richmond with Riewoldt & Martin, Cloke at the Pies last year etc where they all but hold the club to ransom until the club gives in and commits more money meaning someone else misses out.

This is a really interesting point! I also would rate Motlop streets ahead of Yarran! If true Yarran is after 600k he is asking way overs and i doubt any club bar GWS would pay it and nor should they. On the flip side I'd happily have the Swans pay $550k or near abouts for Motlop! Of course we could because of COLA! ;) Motlop has been irresistible the last month or so and has elevated himself to elite IMO.

What's with guys like Martin and Yarran, neither of whom have tasted success, demanding over the top $$? Is it any wonder the culture at Geelong is so successful and positive?
