Just wondering what some of the news is with the Sunraysia Football League. As to date, have not heard a lot. Who are the main threats for the flag and what gun players run around in that League?

Contract bottling and packaging plant in Irymple, run by a Merbein idenity who was once in charge of Mildara Blass Winery.
That type of money should not be spent on players, but invested wisely to produce a steady income stream over a period of time. This could then be used on facilities and put into the junior program to help develop, keep and recruit (through better facilities and coaching) players. But it will probably used to help retire debt and on players. Good luck to them, hope they use it wisely because the competition could do with all teams being competitive.

I hear merbein were $30,000 in debt at the end of the year and that has since been cleared by another merbein business man which leaves them now $50,000 in credit. Santa has come early if my info is correct

well lets hope they use it wisely. All 8 sides competitive is all most supporters would be looking for.

i hear merv wont be back, good thing i say. he is only a cheque book coach anyway, if he has loads of money to spend sure he can win games but without it he is just average. look at the state he left the pies after there flags.
pity there are so many guys leaving merbein lets hope its just rumour and they find a decent coach and a few young players not the over priced has beens and improve

This site is really struggling.
How can Merbein be the only topic of conversation when they have been absolute shite since they last won a flag.
Surely people are more interested in hearing about sides that have some bearing on the outcome of a game and actually going somewhere.
I guess it's like watching a car crash though!

I know we have just about retained our premiership team and Mayne is our new major sponsor with a million doolar sponsorship package.
Irymple are hoping the BIG D is over the line as coach, think he wouldn't make a great coach and he is quieter than a mouse.
Very hard to get recruits as no work in area to draw them.
Ouyen have spoken to players at every club and throwing huge cash at them, will be interesting who they get.
Think Anstey will end up at Robinvale as he has put a price on his head that no one else would pay. O'bree to south or ouyen.

Liked the comment by Lowery in the paper that 30 odd turned up to Merbeins crisis meeting when only 7 players were there along with 3 on the committee. They need to move fast to appoint a coach as they will fold otherwise!!
The upside is the 10 people left at the club will pocket about 5k each with the new sponsorship deal.
Millewa clubs will be the big winner this year with plenty already signed at various clubs. Col Keatch & Joey Wright to Meringur are the most recent.

Peter Zappia/Josh Healy/Felix Liporatta/D.Curran and a few others are the disgruntled Robinvale players heading to the bombers. Thats if they get cleared.
Ouyen have also offered Stephen Denaro $1k a game without even training!!

I believe (stand corrected if needed) Jnr's rather than recruits are the way forward, 5 of Imp side didn't play Jnr at the club, Challis 19-20yo Merbein > Imp to play with this mate, Thomas jumped the fence to play in a successful side (can't image he'd be getting great $$) Atkinson ass coach, Mitch Andrews runs/owns local travel agency with his father.(who is a club sponsor). Kneebone fireman who came to town.(good recruit)

Good point Rabbit and a perfect example of how to look after juniors and keep existing players. No argument from me!!
I think that the money being offered is ridiculous and way to much for this league to sustain and could spell disasterous for some clubs.
Unfortunatley you can not stop this from happening unless all leagues adopt the same point system or salary cap.
From the Millewa side of things these clubs have to pay money to these guys or they dont come out full stop. No juniors or reserves makes it hard to groom players for the future. This is the same as the mallee league.
Gol Gol & Bambill have been doing it for years plus they have an advantage of being in town!! If you had a choice the town sides would be first pick.
My opinions to you and others may not be worthy sometimes as i talk about other clubs players & possible movements but this is what the site is here for to throw around opinions of others & future ideas of where the league & clubs are heading.
