Guess I should keep my opinions to myself lest I draw the ire of the mighty Caesar.
Apologies KC, don't want you to think that at all. Always enjoy reading your views. My comment wasn't intended to be rude at all, I was just saying I don't know that we as fans can be annoyed that the media are making a big deal over the whole 'Bidney' thing when we seemed to embrace it ourselves.

It has often been said we can have any opinion. It seems only until some disagree. Beveridge and Beatson have a longstanding "mock" adversarial relationship. Doesn't look too mock to my eye. But that's just my opinion.
As to "Bidney" CGAF.

YOU ARE NAUGHTY HAVING CAPITALS

Seriously that's as much as you can reasonably say about any team's drafting and recruiting 36 hours after the event.

Instead of filling up their pages with meaningless hot takes, the Melbourne footy media should revisit their post-draft reviews from five years ago and grade themselves.

Good Idea

Both parties appeared quite pissed off with one another (without either demonstrably showing it) when Kinnear outright refuted the rumours that we had offered Tom De Koning a long term deal on Gettable.

I do like Kinnear, but he doesn't suffer fools gladly. The inane suppositions and questions of the media he has no time for.

It goes back further than that when Beveridge asked him a very stupid question and KB said "that's the stupidest question I've ever been asked". They joke about it but....

Bombers write up was on the money, has aged well.

ESSENDON

The Bombers may as well not have turned up on day one of the draft.

On the other hand, the Swans killed it with the first 3 selected.
Go through the whole draft, we made out like bandits. Most of the clubs will look back and see it as a missed opportunity

We smashed it out of the park in 2018, especially when you look at where our picks landed and how clubs with an equivalent hand did.
Was a pretty ordinary draft class that year. We certainly did well as did Port and GCS. Other than that there weren't too many hits.

Good Idea

That was considered the granddaddy of drafts and the best since the 2001 'superdraft'. I remember Beatson saying it was the kind of draft where the top 30-35 prospects that year would be considered top 10-15 prospects in any other year. Which explains our desperation to trade for another pick in it.

It's a stellar draft, but the fact that 13 of those first 35 picked have already been either traded or delisted just five years later shows how imperfect a science drafting can be.

Out of those 35 picks we have now ended up with James Jorden (2018 pick 33) this year after spending 5 yrs at Melb at the expense of Zac Foot (theortetically speaking). Time will tell on JJ but i believe he is a big improvement on Zac Foot who is no longer on a list. So we are still improving on that draft class. Pretty good going i reckon.

Sam Reid and a Mills injury update

Sheldrick still eligible for Rising Star

The smokey

Angus Sheldrick (Sydney) - $51

A bit of a smokey, but Sheldrick is every chance to be a big contributor for the Swans in 2024.

Like Sam Darcy, Sheldrick was drafted in 2021 and has played nine AFL games so far, just making him eligible for the award.

If he has a big pre-season and breaks into Sydney’s midfield, he’s absolutely one to keep an eye on. He could be Luke Parker’s long-term replacement.
