Sweet Cricket Association - Sweet CA

You are invited to join the Sweet Cricket Association - BigFooty's new premier fantasy cricket league. The successor to the BigFooty Fantasy Cricket League, the inaugural First-Class Sweet CA Season 01 is set to commence in late 2024 / early 2025.



Hold up - how does this thing work?

The Sweet CA is a simulated fantasy cricket league where the league and teams are made up of BigFooty posters. The league will have seasons, rules, clubs, captains, fixtures, ladders, stats and history - what fun! The Sweet CA will be located within a yet-to-be-created subforum to the Sweet FA Forum. The Sweet FA is an AFL simulated version and is in its 38th season!

You, the players, sign up as batters, bowlers, wicket keepers or all-rounders. A draft is to occur closer to Season 01.

Each round, match threads are created where posters of the two teams (and visitors) engage with one another. The cricket simulator creates and spits out commentary and statistics which are posted in the match threads.

The league, including team names and grounds, will be set in and around the Municipality of Sweet, sharing the lands and grounds of the Sweet FA.

For former BFFCL players, please note the Sweet CA will be a new league with no connected statistical history to BFFCL profiles. However, exciting ways are planned to respect the history of the BFFCL with details to be shared at a later date.



How do I register?

To register your profile, you must do so by copying the below dot points and posting to the Sweet CA thread which can be found by clicking here. The thread is located within the Sweet FA forum on BigFooty which will be the future home of the Sweet CA.

As of 31/08, we are in most need of pure bowlers, followed by pure batters for squad balance in the draft pool.

Registration qualifies you for the Sweet CA Season 01 Draft.

Batters may select a bowling type for the sim if they wish, however it is quite uncommon that batters get a bowl. If a batter does not chose a preferred bowling type, a bowling type will be selected on your behalf.



Do you want to be a foundation club captain?

To submit your provisional team bid, an Expression of Interest must be submitted by sending a PM to cats2rise with the following information:

• Team Name, Logo and Ground
  
  • NOTE: Successful bids will be required to be based at an existing or proposed new ground in or around the Municipality of Sweet. This may be a groundshare with an existing Sweet FA club, using/leasing a ground not in use, or of course the creation of a new ground. For those unaware of the Sweet FA, this will be making absolutely no sense so please contact myself or Mobbs to assist. In reality, you can just pick a team and ground name and we can figure out where the team would be based!
• Bid group (Max. 6 players) and provisional leadership structure
  
  • NOTE: Nominated players must have already registered for the competition, and a link to that persons registration post must be provided.
• A 'Statement of Intent' for the club in its founding seasons under your and others' leadership

There is no rush to submit a team bid - Closing dates for bids will be announced (in advance to give you a heads up!) at a later date.

Whilst you are required to register in the linked thread as opposed to this thread, if you would prefer to hang out here with more familiar faces until the dedicated subform is created, please use this thread to chat or ask questions as it will be monitored.

If this thread is active enough, we might run an exhibition game here (otherwise they will be located in the other thread) - We could even organise a cricket board XI for an exhibition game!

The below formed an update based off the initial round of main comments and queries recieved to date:

There sure seems to be a lot of all-rounders signing up...
We have 54 registered users within a week, which is solely made up of Sweet FA players so far,

We did not anticipate so many people registering as an all-rpunder for the long format of the game.

When are team bids due? Is it first in, best dressed?
There is no closing date for bids - yet. Notice of an end date (a week or so notice will be given) will be provided clearly in due course.

Assessment of team bids will be based on the make up and direction of the club - not the order in which the bid was received.

What is the Municipality of Sweet, and how do I organise a ground for my team bid?
We have a community and a sim world which is 24 years and 38 seasons old. If you are unaware, check out the Municipality of Sweet in this thread.

To ensure any Sweet CA is canon (after all, it is here to support the Sweet FA), any team bid will be required to have a home ground that is a:

• Proposed ground-share with an existing Sweet FA team at an existing Sweet FA ground (club affiliation not required)
• Proposed use of an existing ground that is not currently affiliated with an existing Sweet FA team, noting there are HEAPS. These grounds can still be named as per your bid!
• Proposed new ground stadium in or around Sweet (development space is tight!) or on the outskirts.

If all of this sounds like too much hard work, not a problem! Mobbs and I can assist - just reach out. Remember this is supposed to be fun, not a chore! We will work with you.

What is first-class cricket?
Its the long format! It is not fully determined if the league will be 4 or 5 days. Feedback is welcomed as this thread is monitored (or send a PM for anonymity!) so please do reach out.

What player type is best?
There is no 'best' - the cricket sim is balanced in terms of involvement and statistical output aligning with your selected player type.

The OP of the thread will be updated from time to time guiding people as to which player type is most needed. As this is first-class cricket (the long format!), there is generally less need for all-rounders. We have plenty signed up to date.

Can I select the order in which I bat or bowl when I do join a team?
That will be a discussion between you and your future captain!

Why do we have to wait until the Sweet FA off season until the Sweet CA starts?
We have AFL finals on the horizon, and the intent of the Sweet CA is to support and not compete with the Sweet FA. Furthermore, we have a summer of cricket to sync up with!

Please do keep an eye out for some advertised exhibition games though..
