So Pick 1 for Pick 2 and probably pick 1-3 next year?

It's a no from me. That should be two elite talents traded for one elite talent.

If we were likely to finish outside the bottom 4 next year then I'll consider it (but we aren't)

It also brings up another issue, does the club think we are likely to be a lot better next year? That could backfire on us big time and I don't trust their assessment of our list and future.

I've said a few times I expect us to be similar or worse next year if any of our senior players (especially Tex but also guys like Seedsman and Smith) decline

I don't think it's clear cut by any means that Horne is the best talent in this draft and it's looking likely whoever has pick 1 & 2 will bid on both Daicos and Darcy anyhow before selecting their player. We really need the Nationals to go ahead to establish a clear pecking order. Erasmus from WA could even enter that discussion.

The way things are going we will probably finish bottom at this rate anyway. So I'd take this with a pinch of salt.

Question on Horne is do you think he's good enough to give up another top 5 pick to get? Is this draft that shallow on elite talent?
My personal non-idea view is that Roberts could be as good

I just like the idea of long raking left footers delivering to Fog and Thrilla for the next 8 years

From around the traps Horne has lesser delivery skills

We still need North to win another game before they play us for that to happen. They play Carlton, Geelong, Richmond and Sydney. They may be a chance against the Blues and the Tigers, but I can't see them winning any of those.

IDK mate, North's last 2 months has been good actually. 2-1-4, with respectably competitive losses to WB, Ess, StK, Bris.

I think there is a strong possibility they beat at least 1 team before they play us again, maybe 2.

Yep... its one of the dumbest things I’ve heard..

And is that actually serious, have I miss read that?, that this is being pushed by a corporate sponsor who see getting Horne as a good selling point?..

If so, wow, yeah, lets compromise our list to make our corporate sponsors happy..

**** Horne.. I only want him if we drop to bottom and he’s the best player at that pick.. and if in the coming two or so months a better young player, that is available to any club, emerges that pushes horne out of top spot and we finish last, **** Horne.. we need to take that player.

This Horne shit is getting ridiculous. He’s just one very good prospect.. who hasnt shown didly bloody squat at AFL level yet.. he’s not worth two top 5 picks FFS.

Take a look at the last 5 or so number 1 draft picks... all if them had their “tyres pumped up” in their draft year just like Horne has now.. would you give up two top 5 draft picks for any of them right now?... **** no... especially seeing some of the talents and abilities of some of the other lads that were taken around them in the top 5.. theres some bloody amazing players in thise top 5’s over the last 5 years. Not many busts anoungst them.

Would way rather two guns that one thankyou. Our list is desperately crying out for it.

Good post.
One player is not going to turn our shitshow of a team around. We need as much top end talent as possible in the shortest amount of time possible. Horne may be the 2nd coming or he may be a bust. Who knows?
It is getting hard coming out in the cold to watch our substandard blokes running around every game. We have a number of players that would not be drafted by another club. Several top picks that have trouble getting a kick. We still have a crisis both on and off field and as a long-term member I'm ****ing sick of it.

No way to spending two top 5 picks on a number 1 pick, not sure we are improving that much to make the deal worth it
Thinking about it more, is there any point us bringing in two quality young midfielders?

We struggle enough to give Schoenberg minutes when we're staring down the barrel of two wooden spoon finishes. It will just be another couple of players stuck in the SANFL or parked at half forward.

We may as well take fewer picks but make sure we get The Guy. At least he might get a shot

I like your thinking, the less quality midfielders we draft the less picks we waste.

Next year looks an absolute bonanza for SA talent, maybe we should do the opposite and try to trade into next year's top end even though it slows our rebuild.

im very keen on this idea. By now the scribes normally have a clearer top 5 at least. Two years of covid is not a great time to be down the bottom.

It is an indictment on our club that they give some of us a reason to start thinking this way. Even sadder is that it appears to be true.

If we do that we are even bigger idiots than I think they are. Use pick 2 or 3 this year on the best mid available in the draft and our future first on an experienced mid around the 23-24 age bracket. Hopper for our future first would be a good target this year along with what we get through the draft. Our midfield needs some experienced quality to help out Schoenberg, Berry, Laird. Having a midfield of kids isn't the answer. Play Sloane permanently in the forward line unless we can get a trade and get what we can for Crouch.

Don't we hear that every year?

2018 it was Hately, Luko, Rankine, Rozee
2019 it was Stephens, Pickett, Day
2020 it was light with only really Thilthorpe
2021 looks like Horne, Draper, Roberts

You know the draft better than me, but if we keep pushing picks back, we end up with one less top end talent. You're better off (if you can) trading your future pick into this year and then keep trying to do that.

If Horne is head and shoulders above those other mids that are being mentioned then it would be worth considering. If he's only fractionally ahead then not worth it

The problem is more than that, imagine the pressure on the kid if we traded that much for him?

Stifling wouldn’t cover it.
