Pick 1 isnt guaranteed to be an elite player. It just gives you the a better CHANCE at landing an elite player.

I'd rather have had lukosius or Ben King or Bailey Smith than both of jones and mchenryYou know damn fine pick 1 doesnt always make it.
If we bank 2 top 5 picks for pick one it can bight us in the ass big time.
I'm all for getting Horne, but not for 2 top 5 picks.
Thats gambling.
Everyone was we should have bet the farm on Luko, Ranline or Rozee. Hows that looking now?
The top 10's a lottery and you know it. You didnt include Rankine in that list? Why's that?I'd rather have had lukosius or Ben King or Bailey Smith than both of jones and mchenry
Sure, i'd rather rankine than bpth jones and mchenry, add in walsh and max king to that list too..and thats now as much as thenThe top 10's a lottery and you know it. You didnt include Rankine in that list? Why's that?

Think the Tasmanian rule was applied there.Ned and Chayce have been busts.
Heck, I wanted Caldwell at the pick we used on Chayce. That didnt work out too well either.
Lately the pick 1s have been pretty good. Besides st kilda and Melbourne, there haven't been too many bustsIt would be nice. Luko's tracking ok, Rankine is a bit of a bust at this point in time and Horne is still an unknown.
I do reckon Rankine can turn it around though.
All I'm saying is its still a lottery even with pick 1.
For every Rowell, theres 4 busts at pick 1. Even Rowell with an injury cloud isnt tracking so good now.
Throwing all your eggs in one basket trading 2 top 5 picks for pick 1 isnt a good strategy.
They have been getting better at identifying talent.Lately the pick 1s have been pretty good. Besides st kilda and Melbourne, there haven't been too many busts
Exactly. Starting to look good.Thomas is starting to look very good for north
No one sensible thinks that way. It's just depressives on this board, spiralling with like minded sad folk.It is an indictment on our club that they give some of us a reason to start thinking this way. Even sadder is that it appears to be true.
Ummm - Jake Kelly?Francis isn't even really a key defender. He's more Doedee, a player we already have.
Given our protencity to pick Doedee as our second tall for most of the season I wouldn't be surprised if we were this dumb.
Thanks for your expert opinion doctorIt's a massive concern. I highly doubt living closer to home will solve all his issues either. Not to mention I recall he had his share of physical injuries? It's a no from me regardless of price.

Except if instead of hindsight some of us were very vocal that the club should be trading up at the time and were despondant when they failed to do so having watched port who started with a weaker draft hand move right on up to get that player they cravedI'd prefer we took Rankine too.
Hindsights a beautiful thing.
Here's me looking up 'protencity' expecting to learn a new word for the dayFrancis isn't even really a key defender. He's more Doedee, a player we already have.

I think we'd look like idiots if we'd given up 2+ firsts for Rankine, considering where he's at.Except if instead of hindsight some of us were very vocal that the club should be trading up at the time and were despondant when they failed to do so having watched port who started with a weaker draft hand move right on up to get that player they craved
I reckon Port might have won that prelim against Richmond if they had Wingard. By his 3rd year he was already all Australian, something Rozee is a way off.Except if instead of hindsight some of us were very vocal that the club should be trading up at the time and were despondant when they failed to do so having watched port who started with a weaker draft hand move right on up to get that player they craved
Another example is Petracca. Two years ago he was not living up to pick 2 status.Exactly. Starting to look good.
What were Aaron Hall, Darcy Parish and Touk Miller last season? Average at best. Now they are killing it. Break out seasons at age 29, 23 and 25
Jones and Mchenry are 21 and 20.
Shows that not every player hits their straps at 20 years old...
Be patient people.
assuming he was playing like that for us and not differently because of environment / role etcI think we'd look like idiots if we'd given up 2+ firsts for Rankine, considering where he's at.
maybe. but from our end, the best bit was that we already had the draft picks at hand without having to trade out players like port did. For what port paid to get to pick 6, had we offered picks 8 & 13 which was vastly better than what they offered Brisbane, that alone would have put us at Ben King without having to do anything else OR, if GC at 5 wanted King, Rozee would have been there for us at 6...but hindsight is a wonderful thing (unless you were in the trade up brigade at the time like I most certainly was)I reckon Port might have won that prelim against Richmond if they had Wingard. By his 3rd year he was already all Australian, something Rozee is a way off.
