Oppo Camp Taylor Adams (Traded to Swans 2023)

I came onto this thread to write the exact same thing!

We applauded Presti for doing it (pulling himself out of a GF due to to be not quite right) and rotated his number for the next 10 years, so why not doing it with Adams? Or why did we not do it with Beams the following year (2011)?

Maaayyybe it's because there wasn't a gun father son (or two) waiting in the wings who's father wore their number.... It was one of the worst traditions, and one of the worst cover stories for what we were actually doing

We had two jumpers that were off limits. One for a bloke who we revere for pulling out of a grand final. The other one for a bloke who we revere for playing in a grand final with a broken thumb...

McRae reveals Taylor Adams made selfless injury call ahead of Grand Final

Collingwood coach Craig McRae has revealed that Taylor Adams made the selfless decision to rule himself out of Saturday’s Grand Final against Brisbane.

Adams suffered a slight hamstring strain one week out from the Preliminary Final and was working hard to get back for the Grand Final on Saturday, which would have been 15 days post-injury.

While the strain was considered so minor that the door was left ajar for a potential return, he was officially ruled out on Monday after experiencing hamstring awareness at training.

McRae says it was Adams who made the call as he simply didn’t feel quite right to put himself on the ground for the decider.

While he didn’t suffer another hamstring strain, McRae says Adams trusted what his body was telling him that he shouldn’t put his hand up to play.

“Obviously Tay, he had some awareness in his hamstring at training yesterday,” McRae said on SEN The Run Home.

“Is it sacrificial? Whatever the language you want to use. He just doesn't feel he is quite right to put himself out there.

“He hasn't re-strained it, but he just has great body awareness.

“He just thinks he's not quite right and these things come along this time of year, don't they?

“That unfortunately for him is the same (as McStay), we’ll put our love and support around those guys and among others.”

Another Pie that will miss the Grand Final is key forward Dan McStay who injured his MCL in the Preliminary Final win over GWS.

McStay kicked two goals in both of Collingwood’s 2023 finals and McRae says it’s disappointing to lose such a structurally important player.

“Unfortunately, for Dan, that's a story that has played out already (him missing out),” McRae said.

“But you know we really want him to really stay close.

“We're not in this position without him. He's had a great finals series.

“For all of the judges out there that said, ‘Why are you getting McStay? I think you could see now how important he is to our structure, and we knew that he could be (important).

“That's disappointing and a disappointment for him and us.”

McRae also confirmed that McStay will be replaced in the starting 22 by swingman Billy Frampton.

Collingwood will announce their starting 22 and sub at 6:20 pm (AEST) on Thursday ahead of Saturday afternoon’s Grand Final at the MCG.

Adams is everything that’s good about this current side and the culture at our club. While I expect that Wade and his SAS-style testing of Adam’s hammy would have brought us to the same position, Tay put a stop to the speculation and distraction early in the week to let the club get on with it.

In a way it’s more selfless than Presti who left the decision till game day

Some Grand Finals are relatively bruise-free. Even so, there are moments of intensity where the momentum is won or lost in close contests.

We'll miss Tay. I can only hope that this doesn't make itself painfully apparent at the end of the day.

As much as anyone deserves to play a game of football, he deserves to be out there. I feel genuinely hurt for him.

haha... You make a really good point!

Despite that fact that retiring 35 had nothing to do with Presti...

I think that much like WHE, who many people over the past few years have wanted to be pushed out (including myself at times), Adams is valued far more highly internally than he is by the average punter.
I don’t think he has to fight tooth and nail for his spot at all. If for, he plays.
I hear what you’re saying, I probably worry more about physical capability with a bloke that has now suffered so many soft tissue injuries. Because his disposal is iffy, if he s becomes any slower the value proposition of others has to at least be explored vs alternatives. To a degree we saw the saw with the management of Mitchell late season (kudos Wade who had him firing when it mattered!). I love Tay for his intensity and his inside capability, he’s actually one of my favourites but he’s already been pushed to an degree out of our midfield mix.

Heart breaking seeing him in tears.
Has bled black and white his entire career and did everything he could to be out there. Life’s not fair sometimes.

Not sure what to make of the rumour Taylor Adams going to be traded to Sydney.

Out of the blue

Could we do the opposite of his initial trade

We trade Adams and get a youngster in return?
