Been a fine servant, if he wants to leave he has my blessing.
Now has continual injury concerns at his age, so good time for younger players to fill his void.
Wouldn’t mind Justin McInerney, what’s his status?

Also potentially replacing him with Wines. Pulling age demographics down so we don't have 6+ players retire/fall off a cliff at the same time.

It's hard to stomach but smart from a list management perspective.

Also, Adams body has failed him two finals series in a row, and I'm not sure he's got more than a year or two of good footy in him before his body entirely breaks down.

That would be some midfield. Two Brownlow medallists, Pendles and the greatest player on the planet.

Absolutely. I do know we're in his ear, and I can't imagine he likes being out on a wing where he's bog average to give Rozee/Butters centre-square time.

Also add prime Degoey to your above list. Holy shit.....

My head knows that after you win a Premiership, your fringe players are generally overvalued by the market and it’s optimal to trade them to continue your run at the top.

But although Tay was frequently played out of his preferred position, and is ageing and tends to suffer injuries at inopportune times… I will ****ing hate him leaving and playing for anyone else.

If he leaves and plays against us at the MCG, I will be in danger of punching anyone who boos Tay.

That's what made his year so good to me. No way do Macrae or Carmichael perform nearly as well as he did in that hybrid fwd/mid role. Its not an easy role to play and have the impact he did.

I doubt Sydney will play Collingwood at the MCG again this decade. Adams would probably be retired by then.

Chances of us getting another game against the Swans at the G in the foreseeable future are remote so you should be okay.

Edit: what KKP said.

Agreed. I can wrap my head around it logically and actually support it tactically - but it still makes me want to cry at the same time.

It will be a negotiation between Swans and Pies on which second round draft pick will be used in the trade for Adams.

Pies will want pick 23

Swans will offer pick 31

Would be nice if we could package up #18, #23, #36 and our future first for Gold Coast's #4 (they have a number of high academy players coming through so they likely wont get to use #4 anyway.

Missing the captaincy and then the flag must of really hurt 😢

I think the talk is possibly a ploy to get an additional year on the contract (pies probably only offering him 1 year at a time)

That being said, if he actually wants to leave… swans likely only get 18 months out of him

And Pies save a little in cap and get to regenerate an ageing list a little with a younger player then in the 23

As for his trade value ? There’s not much on the swans list that they’d realistically be willing to part with in a straight swap.

Pies: Adams + pick 76 (comes down after academy and FS selected)

Swans: pick 51

If swans are gonna put him in their weekly side and offer him a 2 year deal… then they can stump up a 3rd round pick for him

Swans aren’t paying a 2nd round pick outright for a 30 year old prone to injury

Good business from all 3 parties depending on the trade result, but the purist in me wanted to see him get the flag he deserved.

From a list management standpoint the play is obvious to stagger that drop and get good value for a 30+ guy, but like MK I can’t see any way Macrae and Carmichael will cover the hole. I’d be chasing Sheldrick and although Wines sounds nice in theory it takes us from slow to treacle because Adams was deceptively quick.

Shame to see him go, has been a good and faithful servant. Still needs to do what is best for himself. If he can get a 2-3 year contract out of them, good luck to him. Was expecting next year to be his last.

Him leaving may be the difference between Finley McRae staying or going. More opportunities for Reef and Allen as well.

I think his body broke down because we didn’t properly manage him through the season

If the Swans are smart (assuming he’s even going that is) and manage him properly, they could easily get 3 years out o la him. Good years.

His body didn't break down. He had the mildest of hammy strains. Horrific timing, but just bad luck.

He’s an older player who played every game 2 years running and both years had an injury on the eve of finals/start of finals

Maybe it’s just a coincidence

Maybe it’s not

Hopefully for his sake it’s not

A more meaningful stat might be that he played the most games in a season of his career this year. And he missed other games in 22
