It will be a negotiation between Swans and Pies on which second round draft pick will be used in the trade for Adams.

Pies will want pick 23

Swans will offer pick 31

Would be nice if we could package up #18, #23, #36 and our future first for Gold Coast's #4 (they have a number of high academy players coming through so they likely wont get to use #4 anyway.

That’s an interesting one because of the points. If Collingwood had 4 I wouldn’t be doing that deal and I’d take Duursma or Caddy depending on who the 3rd live pick is. Points wise it’s a winner.

That's what made his year so good to me. No way do Macrae or Carmichael perform nearly as well as he did in that hybrid fwd/mid role. Its not an easy role to play and have the impact he did.

Most goal assists for the club and featured well league wide in '23. Tay has been underrated.

I agree. Neither of Macrae or Carmichael could easily replicate this output.

I hear what you’re saying, I probably worry more about physical capability with a bloke that has now suffered so many soft tissue injuries. Because his disposal is iffy, if he s becomes any slower the value proposition of others has to at least be explored vs alternatives. To a degree we saw the saw with the management of Mitchell late season (kudos Wade who had him firing when it mattered!). I love Tay for his intensity and his inside capability, he’s actually one of my favourites but he’s already been pushed to an degree out of our midfield mix.
Nah. Tay was bloody good this year both ahead of the footy and on ball. And having 6 blokes who can genuinely play as centre square mids gives us heaps of flexibility and injury cover, because you can cover flanks with depth players, but you can't cover your mids like that without a significant drop off. He's a valuable player.

The head is probably saying it's an opportunity to keep Macrae's interest up as he could then see an opening for him to play more games.

I really get the sense this has been planned for a while, for precisely that reason, despite the reports coming out of it being a late development.

Is it lack of midfield time driving this? He’s 30 now so even at the Swans his midfield time might be high next year but then would decline as he ages.

Do we need to move him for salary cap? Or recruiting someone else that hasn’t been mentioned yet?

If he was fit for the Prelim and GF I imagine he would’ve spent more time in the middle.

With us being in win now mode I want him to stay.

But to get something around pick 25 for him plus giving Macrae or Reef more game time so they develop and stay if kind of lean towards being ok with Adams leaving.

We have had a few absolute busts in the draft recently and in need of some young talent coming through.

Gee that’s a good deal. Future first has potential of being as good as pick 6 of Bulldogs implode. They had a pretty ordinary finish to the season.

That Naughton deal could piss off a few players. You come to negotiate your deal and they offer you unders and say sorry we had to over pay that inconsistent guy in the forward line.

Was probably the hot favourite for many years to replace Pendles as captain & got overlooked.
Then got pushed out of the midfield with the acquisition of Mitchell.
He probably has concerns about where he stands in the team moving forward. I hope he stays.
But he probably has some doubts in his mind right now.

I think there's a good chance that we already have a player we're bringing in to replace Adams. I wouldn't blame him for leaving because he's probably going to get more years and money.

And if he does leave, hopefully, we replace him with a player who is younger and less injury prone.

I think Tay has had a great year and his disposal in kicking inside 50 has been excellent based on the eye test.

He'd be a loss. He's also just a great bloke from all reports.

Given his age and I jury history I think he absolutely deserves to take a bigger and better offer if there is one available. I don't think this is a dummy spit - if he didn't injure his hammy he'd have been playing the GF (Pendles said Tay ruled himself out Presti style), so getting "pushed out" is not a factor this year. Cause he hasn't been. There's also no concrete evidence to show he would be next year.

From a Pies perspective it would be "next man up" mentality either through FA, trade, or through a youngster stepping up. Fly and co will alter the game plan to fit whichever players we have available, so if we don't have Tay and that's detrimental to the plan they'll change the plan.

No need to fear, and certainly we wish him all the best.

Hoping this doesn't overshadow a great week and what will be a great night (the Copeland). Tay and the boys deserve every good thing coming their way - here or elsewhere!

Is Wrighty that much of a guru he could convince Sydney that Errol Gulden is a fair swap.
Of course not.

We’d require their future first too.
