Why else would he be exploring other options?
One year to run on contract.
No negotiations to extend that contract.
And no guarantee that it would be extended.
At his age and physical condition, the club would only commit to exploring an extension or a new contract during the next season. And had he asked that would be the stock answer.
One thing not explored is the possibility that he has a trigger in current contract for an extension. This would ask so mean no negotiations entered into or even required. Maybe he is worried about not meeting that trigger

Sydney have approached him and are trying to lure him out. Adams is doing what any sensible person would - checking out the offer and then doing a pros and cons assessment, probably weighing up what is best for him and his future. Adams didn’t initiate it and the club isn’t begrudging him for considering Sydney’s offer.

They aren’t begrudging it because they know in their heart of hearts that he’s spent. He’ll free up salary cap space and significantly contribute to reducing turnovers.

Why would they be sniffing around, unless they had an approach on the quiet from either him or his manager.

Maybe. The fact is that he is not making Collingwood a better side next year, and even he knows it.

He was very clearly best 23 in the role he was assigned to in 2023, in which he played every single game he was available for.

Top 5 in league for goal-assists this season. Your original post that he was pushed out of our 23 was laughable.

Clubs and list managers approach opposition player managers all the time - gauging interest, testing the waters, what would it take kind of conversations happen all the time. Don’t know if you don’t ask …

I didn’t use the past tense. I said he’s no longer in our best 23. That means 24’

He is no longer in our best 23. Injury plagued and slow. I’d be more sentimental if he was a one club player, but he isn’t.

So he's being randomly dropped from our best 23 after a good season for no reason other than your baseless assumptions?
Change is inevitable after a flag, win or lose. You can afford to be bolder after a win. If you don’t evolve you regress. Changes need to be made. He’s not as important as many think. We won a premiership without him after all. You can only have so many 30+ year olds in a side.

His granite like hardness will be missed. Was a big reason GWS was able to stay in the contest for so long.

Adams probably doesn’t get the credit he deserves.
He certainly does with me, I’m really against this move. We won’t get much for him at his age…much rather have him on the list contributing to our next premiership.

Taylor Adams is a Collingwood warrior

I hope we keep him

And he pummels Zorko in next year’s GF

I find it strange Sydney want him considering his age and has a year to go on his contract. I can’t see a scenario where Sydney think they want an inside mid and approach him.

It could only be Adams approaching Sydney or we’ve told him we won’t resign him at the end of this contract so go find yourself another team if you can this year.

Why wouldn’t Sydney approach him?

They lost a GF 12 months ago and they need more grunt in the middle

Their idiot co-captain injured himself in a pub

Adams brings intensity and professionalism

I think the timing from Tay is a bit odd,We just win the premiership, then days later there’s talk of him wanting to move to Sydney, supposedly for more time in the midfield. It’s not as if the club treated him badly this year.He wasn’t dropped for a single game, and would have played in the grand final if he hadn’t got injured. All he was asked to do was to play a different role, with more time up forward. But he still had stints in the midfield,so it wasn’t as if he was completely ejected from the midfield all together.

That’s what team players do,they sacrifice themselves and adapt for the greater good of the team.I couldn’t imagine Pendlebury or Sidebottom wanting to go to another team just because they were asked to play a different role at Collingwood. They would have just got on with the job and done it well.

Tay needs to think about this very carefully before he decides to move on.Does he want to leave a team he loves, whose premiership window is still very much open, just to chase the possibility of more time in the midfield at an interstate club?Does he give up the real chance of winning a flag with his best mates, just for a bit more midfield time at another club? And what happens if he suffers more soft tissue injuries and falls down the pecking order at Sydney? He mightn’t spend any more time in the midfield there either. He needs to weigh all of this up before he commits himself to moving.
