Oppo Camp Taylor Adams (Traded to Swans 2023)

I find it strange Sydney want him considering his age and has a year to go on his contract. I can’t see a scenario where Sydney think they want an inside mid and approach him.

It could only be Adams approaching Sydney or we’ve told him we won’t resign him at the end of this contract so go find yourself another team if you can this year.
We were making enquiries last year, this has been a while coming.

I think the timing from Tay is a bit odd,We just win the premiership, then days later there’s talk of him wanting to move to Sydney, supposedly for more time in the midfield. It’s not as if the club treated him badly this year.He wasn’t dropped for a single game, and would have played in the grand final if he hadn’t got injured. All he was asked to do was to play a different role, with more time up forward. But he still had stints in the midfield,so it wasn’t as if he was completely ejected from the midfield all together.

That’s what team players do,they sacrifice themselves and adapt for the greater good of the team.I couldn’t imagine Pendlebury or Sidebottom wanting to go to another team just because they were asked to play a different role at Collingwood. They would have just got on with the job and done it well.

Tay needs to think about this very carefully before he decides to move on.Does he want to leave a team he loves, whose premiership window is still very much open, just to chase the possibility of more time in the midfield at an interstate club?Does he give up the real chance of winning a flag with his best mates, just for a bit more midfield time at another club? And what happens if he suffers more soft tissue injuries and falls down the pecking order at Sydney? He mightn’t spend any more time in the midfield there either. He needs to weigh all of this up before he commits himself to moving.
We might have indicated to him that he will not receive more than a year or 2 extension. Sydney might offer him 4 for instance and with guaranteed mid time. He now plays second fiddle to Titch.

Tough one. Such a heart and soul player. And uninjured, still commands a spot. But the list is ageing and especially in that context, staying still is going backwards. If Taylor can get 2-3yrs at Sydney and we get something handy, maybe it’s a win win.
I’m not convinced our premiership window stays open if we don’t make some bold calls. And/or maybe we need to take a step back in 2024 to access greater longevity as a legitimate challenger in the medium term. Develop some younger talent etc.
I wonder what we’d get for Taylor. Clearly not first round and perhaps not even second. Maybe a pick upgrade or a handy but superfluous to Sydney player?

If we don't get an reasonably early second round pick then he can just stay, he's still contracted

I suspect if TA wants to go, they will make it happen. I doubt that they will force him to see out his contract. Goodwill will kick in.

To a point, yes. But it is incumbent on Sydney to come up with something appropriate. Despite the view of a couple of clowns around here, he is still a “first 23” player. His departure would undoubtedly weaken our list for the 2024 season.

Who would he replace from our Premiership side?
Probably Ginnivan, given he was selected over him for most of the season.

I hope Adams stays with us next year but wouldn’t be surprised if he goes, particularly if the Swans are offering a three year deal.

Yes, in all reality he probably would have. My comment was about the future though. In my view he holds us back if we keep playing him ahead of up and comers. He is so battle weary it’s not funny. By comparison, Crisp is a spritely 30 year old.

If up and comers are good enough they push players out. He just turned 30, not 34. Macrae as his likely replacement is very unlikely to produce in 24 what Tay gave us in 23.

Mitchell is such a better upgrade and anyone who doesn't think so go back and watch that GF.

He did really well at times (some horror games) playing at HF with time in the guts.

I just think Fin is more then ready and we won't be losing much apart from experience.

Need to make big calls and Fin will be a very good footballer either at Collingwood or somewhere else.
