Going on from the Sopranos debacle, being moved without warning to monday midnight!! and replaced by Comedy Inc!? *shudders* does this prove that majority of Australia's viewing audiences are airheads once again?

Take a look at the great shows; Six Feet Under, the Office (UK version on ABC) We can be heroes, Absolute Power (also on ABC) none of them rate. People much more satisfied to watch moronic skithouse-likes show or those ridiculous CSI or forensic shows. Don't even get me started on the abundance of reality television.

The Wedge, real stories, Celebrity Survivor?!?!?! Embarrasing. Am I the only one disillusioned by this?

I see all the shows you mentioned, and raise you The Shield. How this show didn't rate is beyond me. I've bought season 1 and 2 on DVD, downloaded 3, 4 and 5. But it's that good that when those seasons are released on DVD here I'll buy them.

That battled wherever it was shown, not just Australia, never really took off in the States either.

Welcome to democracy

those shows you gave as examples have content, and are made as such, that they will appeal to a limited amount of people. Also, they are aimed and set in the US or UK which would also detract from lovers of Blue Heelers, All Saints etc because people like the Aussie setting and culture.

Most moronic shows you said are glossy, braindead stuff that appeals to widest audience and believe me, the US has much more of them then us.

I agree...I hate seeing ace programs neglected, but its not hard to see why. Most of them simply were NOT made for the Australian market.

Yep. My 2 favourite dramas ever (Homicide: Life on the Street and The Sopranos), both critically acclaimed, fit into this boat.

Even a seemingly popular show like South Park doesn't rate nearly as well as i'd expect. Brilliant show but it seems like the 'airheads' you refer to jumped off after the novelty of the swearing cartoon wore off, as the real humour is beyond them.

When people quote Family Guy at each other and tell me they don't watch South Park it makes me want to kick them between the legs - even the ladies.

:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu: How can anyone look at that and go "nah I don't think I'll watch it".

You just know that there is going to be some serious bad ar$e-ness happening in every episode.

The Shield >>>>>>>>>>> All the CSI's and Law & Order's times infinity!

You won't see season 3 - onwards on dvd for quite some time (if ever) in R4. Seasons 1 & 2 weren't "big sellers" so the distributor doesn't have any plans now or in the future to release the later seasons over here, so looks like we'll have to import them from America if we ever want to get them.

I love Six Feet Under but unfortunately I haven't seen a great deal of it because of the ridiculous timeslots they put it on. Oh well I will just have to buy the DVDs.

The guy on the left is wearing a big collar, has dark hair, and a gay arse vest, they should rename this show 'The Emo'

Nah kidding, Sheild rocked. More to add to the list:

Arrested Development
Scrubs
Buffy
Angel

Clever things make people feel stupid, and unexpected things make them feel scared

Sometimes i want to injure slightly a member of the general public for their pedestrian love of shows like 2 and a 1/2 men.

100 Center Street - Allan Arkin is a God

Sopranos

West Wing

Any Micallef Vehicle

The Shield is so good it hurts

Oz - those Neo-Nazi prisoners are the most evil and brutal characters in the history of television

Does anyone here have a ratings box at their house? Do they still work out ratings that way?
Mate of mine had one years ago. Was a pain in the rear, you had to continually log people on and off as they watched television.

Agree with the topic though. Successive series of Idol and Big Brother convinced me of that.

Have you not heard of a video recorder? :p
Anyway, i would def recommend getting the DVD. Great series, well worth it

As for other shows that dont/didnt rate, ive said it once i'll say it again "Freaks and Geeks" :(

Yeah I have but I don't have one - only a DVD player.:)

Didn't channel 7 push "24" back to 9:30pm - after the prime ratings period has finished? Add that to the list.

But I agree - it's sad when shows like Idol and Big brother continue to linger on courtesy of simple minded teeny boppers while these top shows are treated like crap.
