Why are Carlton not in the Top 20 All Time Home and Away Crowds in Western Australia vs Eagles?
Why are Carlton not in the Top 20 All Time Home and Away Crowds in Sydney. vs Swans Collingwood is there 9 times.
Why are Carlton not in the Top 20 All Time Home and Away Crowds in Sydney vs Giants
Why has Carlton never drawn more than 50,00 against Dockers in WA. Collingwood has.
Why does Collingwood have the Top 2 and 3 of the Top 4 Home and Away Crowds vs Brisbane in Qld
Why are Carlton not in the Top 20 All Time H and A crowds in Adelaide vs Crows

Point Proven
that's because Collingwood have had a better team in the last 20 years where attendance and popularity has exploded in afl. Now that carlton has a very good team you'll see how big a club we really are, 2nd only to collingwood imo. Carlton hasnt even finished top 4 in over 20 years so wait till they establish themselves as a top 4 team.

I disagree. Collingwood has the most supporters Australia wide hands down, but probably only just in front of WC. They got 90K to the Freo final at the G in 2022 when probably be lucky to have 5K going for Freo there. No one else can draw like that vs an interstate team.

If the Collingwood Melbourne fan base is undisputed, why would Carlton/Essendon have more or equal in other states than Collingwood when it probably just a factor of migration out of Melbourne for work?
We don’t migrate for work. More for those nice tropical centrelink cheques.

There have only been two H&A games in history that have drawn over 90,000 on a non-public holiday. Just two. Ever.

Carl-Ess in 2000 which drew over 91,000 and Rich-Carl in 2018 when the Tigers were unfurling their premiership flag.

Attendances of 90,000 just don’t happen unless it’s a public holiday. High 80’s is pretty much the limit. The game in 2000 was, in my opinion, the biggest build up to a H&A game in history and stands alone as the most insane build up to a game the sport has ever seen with one team on a 19-game win streak versus another who had won 13 of their last 14. The game had 10-week build up as the Bombers and Blues kept winning.

Coll-Ess on the Kings Eve wouldn’t have drawn 90,000 in my humble opinion. I suspect it would be high 80,000s similar to the Collingwood-Carlton Friday night game earlier this year.

90,000 just doesn’t happen on a non-public holiday unless it’s under the most extraordinary of circumstances.
I think 90k is pretty much the cap for home and away because there's been some massive games like the final round in 2022 Carl vs coll huge stakes match massive buildup and i think it was shy of 89k. Corporates must take up the remaining 10k seats and then just not turn up and locks out so many general public fans

When any of the big 4 are up and going, it’s negligible difference between the supporter bases.

As recently as 3 years ago many seemed certain Richmond had a bigger supporter base than Carlton and possibly Essendon.

If I was to guess the big 4 rankings of support all things being equal currently:

1. Collingwood
2. Essendon
3. Carlton
4. Richmond

All 4 will get 85-90 plus for any final they now play in though.

At lot of chest beating here from Pies supporters about attendances and memberships etc.

Collingwood are a very competitive club, but three flags in the last sixty odd years tell's it's own story i think.

North Melbourne and the West Coast Eagles to name just two, have seen more success than Collingwood since 1958.

Can you please provide the same analysis for the following scenarios:
1. The past 12 months;
2. The past 15 years;
3. The history of the VFL/AFL.

Thanks in advance.

Nah 1 and 2 timelines don't suit the narrative, however over the course of the competition does (3).

So, what's the number 1 metric?, well that's obvious, what's number 2?, well that's obvious also.

3? I'd argue finals won 4? Finals played

Now average that out for all clubs for their time in the competition, then compare all the clubs, you'll find that the highest profile clubs is the most successful of all clubs over the course of the competition, and in part the reason why it has the highest overall attendances, probably tv ratings too.

Just a tip, use the AFL tables for your source.

Stuff it, I've already done it, oh and in before 'flags don't matter 100 or 50 years ago', ok then only the last flag matters then. 2022 and before don't count.

Interestingly, public holidays aside, Collingwood has never played in front of a crowd of 90,000 in their history. Has never happened.
We drew 92,000 against Hawthorn in a Saturday twilight fixture.. which is bigger than any Carlton v Collingwood home and away crowd ever! I find it interesting.. that Carlton v Collingwood has never drawn more than 90,000 in a home and away game!!

Interesting that the two true Powerhouses of the competition - Collingwood and West Coast - come out as 1 and 2.

That's why they are Powerhouses.

you forgot dental.
Easy to forget what we dont have. ;)

Our atrocious dental hygiene hasn't affected our birth rate.

People don't like Collingwood? Fine, we'll make our own people.

If Collingwood vs Carlton became a marquee game on a public holiday or the night before they would easily get 90,000+. The AFL have pretty much run out of PH's to schedule games on so wont happen, unless they come up with something stupid like Labour Day Eve

Only options are to build our Round Zero / Round 1, return Easter Thursday to Melbourne or bring back ‘Rivarly Round?’

That said, until the mid 90s, public holiday fixtures really didnt have a big bump for attendances

it is interesting i agree but take anzac day match out of the equation and i'd say that carlton vs collingwood matches would be the highest averaging attended matches over any other fixture.

It is with 8.5 million attending with an average of 46,000 that's more than anyone else.

Interesting I found out the that on the day of 1970 GF Carl v Coll there were 121,696 in the ground 1 hour before the bounce they closed the gates and 60,000 were locked out.😳 To this day it is the most attended sporting event in Australian sporting history and 14th most attended sporting match in the world.

Richmond achieved that first with 119k attending BEFORE the 1970 granny.
