Henderson looks for the quick ball, makes smart movement, works hard and is athletic, the kind of player Kenny loves. Kuyt could've started ahead of him against Sunderland, too, he doesn't have to start him

The kid hasn't done too badly though, he'll only get better.

Love Suarez, Kenny was probably thinking if the game's level, he's gonna come on and win it, and that he did. Seems obvious, but well played by the gaffer

And Kelly and Enrique are beasts, our best full back pairing by miles. They gave Arsenal nothing today

Arsenal had nothing today.

And you never really opened them up until they had 10 men.

With 120 defenders sidelined.

Lets not go overboard here as Liverpool fans have a consistent tendency to do.

Kenny got the starting XI wrong. Raul is fine to start, he just isn't. He showed sufficient quality last season to be starting.
Suarez should start every single game. He's a wonderful player and it's madness to have him on the bench for a big game.
Kenny got a break with the sending off.
Holding Suarez back wasn't a masterstroke. He had an inferior player starting in his position, and playing there for > 2/3's of the game.

Raul isn't fit, and if we wanna argue who should be starting, Suarez should be first on every team sheet. But he clearly isn't 100% after Copa America, and he looked dead against Sunderland 2nd half. So Kenny was probably thinking, we don't have to do anything stupid, if it's still level at 60th min, I can bring those two on to win it, and it worked out that way.

I dunno about the 10 men or 11 men stuff, think if we kept sticking with Carroll or Kuyt, we wouldn't have a hope in scoring even if Arsenal only had 7. Suarez and Raul played some lovely stuff to open them up

Suarez is close to being the best player in the league, he is absolutely amazing. Gonna score bags this season

No kenny got the team right. Raul was injured in pre season has not had alot of training sessions better to blend him in then to chuck him in the deep end straight away.
Suarez had copa america has only had 5 training sessions since he has returned blending him in 2.
No the RED was there should of been a RED last week.
Only going to get stronger keep hating :thumbsu:

Mate, have replied to your post - in the main thread, no point continuing the same discussion in two threads.
Absolutely agree with everything you say except the Suarez stuff (re: not starting).

And to northmelbournefc, I don't hate Liverpool. Far from it. Would enjoy seeing them win the PL. Which is why I argue as I do re: Carroll etc.

Reina
Kelly Carra Agger Enrique
Lucas Adam
Johnson Meireles Downing
Suarez

Would like to see this next week, I don't like the football we play when Carroll starts.

Carroll needs to prove himself off the bench from now on and Johnson needs to be trialled at right wing as I don't want him replacing Kelly at right back.

Carroll will come into his own when we are playing teams at Anfield who are parking the bus. Our gameplan then will be to get crosses in from the wing. Get enough crosses in and the lad will score, look at his header in the first half, from a position slightly behind him and nearly scored. It could be worse, we could stlll have Torres!!

Not very impressed with Adam last night. Henderson taking time to settle in, Gerrard will replace him when he returns to fitness. I'd like to see us line up as follows should we sign Cahill as expected:

Reina
Kelly Cahill Agger Enrique
Lucas
Meireles Gerrard Downing
Suarez Carroll

Meireles very impressive off the bench. Top player IMO.

It was smart what Kenny did leaving Suarez on the bench and bringing him on as a sub as the game had wore on and when were down to 10 men and fatigued.

Carroll, oh dear. Vermaelen is 6 inches shorter than him and killed him. He was immense last night.

You guys struggled against us though, I don't think you'll make fourth (if you do), as easy as you think you will.

After the last few years I doubt any Liverpool fan is expecting us to just cakewalk our way back into the top 4.

Kenny got the starting XI wrong.

Blah blah blah

yeah but this is the kind of game we would have drawn 1-1 last year with a couple of penalties or something. get it? we were much smarter yesterday and one man will say he 'got the starting XI wrong' but another man would say he rested a man for the good of the team and used him as a super sub to win the game. raul too was fantastic too.

we have a bigger squad this year and I expect rotation and I understand it because we still have to find our best XI. the fact that suarez didn't start, played 20~ minutes, scored and helped us get three points kind of defeats what you're saying before you said it, right? to take advantage of a ten-man, tiring Arsenal and giving Dirk Kuyt a deserved rest, taking Andy off considering it was raining and he was also tired. Kenny is a genius. you're typing on bigfooty. :D

obviously I am happy we won the game and pressed and didn't tire. looking forward to the Exeter game during the week and hope we can keep winning!!

Suarez could of been well within his rights not to play the first game, so can't complain too much about him coming off the bench. I said at the start if we were level or ahead when he came on we would not lose with him being fresh against their shaky defense. In the end it has worked out well, he hasn't had to do a lot this week and should be fine to play the full 90 next up.

I don't know if you would call it a struggle, I also can't recall too many saying it would be easy.. however I think a positive for you and us is that from what Chelsea have showed they could be joining the battle as well. We dominated possession and were never going to lose, it was just a matter of a 0-0 or us winning... I don't think even you guys could argue that. A lot of new guys out there so we were not as clean as we would like going forward but the signs are there with Downing, Enrique pushing forward and Adam can't surely play as bad as he did again. As has been mentioned elsewhere, Carrol was killed by Adam more than anyone else... the harsh reality of being a player that is reliant on others. Henderson was poor but hes not in our best 11 and is young so not complaining there. The big positive was our defense, looked good even with Carra there, just need Agger to stay fit and hope KK chooses Kelly over Johnson.

Gonna be hard to get in the team for Gerrard the midfield had good synergy with henderson, adam, lucas, meireles and downing more forward

$200 that Chelsea finishes ahead of Liverpool.

Up for it?

Happy with the 3 points, we got the win and thats all that matters, Enrique I thought was excellent along with man of the match Downing and not to mention the rest who were all good.

Carroll played poorly IMO, don't think he played well at all tbh. Enrique is a good player, I don't understand why Arsene didn't go for him at the price he was going at. Ridiculous.

Downing can certainly hit the ball well. Don't really rate him though. Especially for 20m.

Chelsea will finish third. They have too much quality not to. Don't know what you're talking about with possession, at the end of the game it was 57/43 our way I think.

I ****ing hate Carragher with a passion. Kelly looked good.

Gerrard is your captain. He will play if he's fit.

I was quite pleased with the result but not the performance. But I want to say that, so many times Utd play shit and win anyway. It's the sign of a good team. We still have Gerrard, one of the best players on the planet to come back into the side. Carroll should be coming off the bench. Gerrard to Suarez makes my dick hard. Going. To. Be. Awesome.

Exeter next midweek. Id like to see the squad players and youngsters get a gig. Doni will no doubt make his debut and Greek/Skrtel could be in the middle. Flanno and Robbo in the full back positions maybe.

Id love to see Sterling and Suso in the squad. Coady too. But also some game time for Maxi Rodriguez. Id play Carroll just to see if he can score to help his confidence.

We were never going to go there and batter them, even with the players they had unavailable. They still had some useful attacking players in their team and are always hard to beat at the Emirates. We did enough to take advantage of probably the best chance we'll ever have to win at the Emirates and that's all that really matters.

I'd temper my expectations of Gerrard if I were you - he's not quite one of the best players on the planet these days, but he'll certainly still be a valuable player for us. I think that the days of him playing 90 minutes every week might be at an end though.

As for Exeter, while I'd like us to give some youngsters/fringe players a chance, it'd be nice to go on a bit of a Cup run for the first time in a while. We should have enough to get through, but they will really be up for this game so we need to be careful.
