Gave himself every chance of winning running the way he did, didn’t sit back and wait to leave it up to someone else. Don’t think a slow race and a final sprint suits him.

Such a nice guy too, really hope he can go on with it
Haha word for word what they just said in the breakdown. But yeah, he did really well. Just got swamped at the end :(

Yeah looked like he was going to hold on around the bend but just tightened up over the last 100m!

There’s another Australian runner he trains (and lives I think) with - Joseph Deng - who is also able to run a similar time, not sure what happened to him.

They train and live in the Essendon area so if you walk or run around the Maribyrnong you’ll probably see them at some point.

Medal events featuring Aussies for the rest of today:

1.29pm today – Women's kayak single 500m final. Starting in lane 8, no idea if she's any good (Alyce Wood).

1.30pm today – Men's skateboard park final. Two Aussies qualified for the final (and three Brazilians... so out of eight competitors there's 5 countries represented). Decent chances there, Kieran Woolley qualified 2nd and Keegan Palmer in 5th.

1.55pm today – Men's kayak double 1000m final. Australia has qualified and holds the olympic best time which was set yesterday...

4pm today – Women's 10m platform diving final. Melissa Wu going at around 4th/5th in the heats and semi-final, the two Chinese divers are ridiculously good, so she's probably vying for bronze unless she has another level to go to.

4.30pm/5.27pm/6.07pm/6.55pm – Men's Omnium (track cycling). There's an Aussie in this, Sam Welsford (who was in the team sprint that won bronze the other day). Has to race in all four events and accumulate the most points overall.

5.17pm/~6pm/6.45pm – Women's Keirin (track cycling). Kaarle McCulloch is the Aussie in the quarterfinals (heat 3). If she's in the top 4 of her QF heat then the semis are just before and just after 6, and then the final if she qualifies.

5.30pm today – 20km men's race walk. The Aussie's PB is a long way off though.

6pm today – Women's football soccer bronze medal match. Matildas vs USA.

8pm today – Men's hockey gold medal match. Kookaburras vs Belgium.

10.40pm today - Men's decathlon 1500m run (the last event out of 10). Ashley Moloney is going alright, sitting in 2nd atm with three events to go (javelin, pole vault, 1500m run).

Also notable:

2.15pm today – Men's basketball semi-final. Boomers vs USA, playing for a berth in the finals

And we've got another medal coming tomorrow at 12.30pm, just don't know what colour yet, in the women's beach volleyball gold medal match for Mariafe Artacho Del Solar/Taliqua Clancey.

Stuff these moving overhead cameras. They are terrible when you are suffering from vertigo.
How do you go with the vault camera in the gymnastics? That one is on a track so doesn't move around as much as the cable operated thing (spidercam?) that they have in the basketball.

I haven't seen it...but they had the spider one in the BB on for over a minute and I nearly fell of the couch lmao.
