Review The Good, Bad and Ugly vs. Hawthorn Hawks

Judging by the differences between his two halves. Cook might be the only forward in the squad that's ever shown any evidence that the presence of Taylor Walker is hindering his development.

As opposed to being entirely dependent upon Walker being in the side and drawing the good defenders away.

"That game" actually had ceased to exist and was fully completed as a sporting contest by the time he entered the statistics in a numerical sense. And in spite of these statistics, they had no bearing whatsoever on the result of the contest.

It is paradoxical, but in this instance, the quantitative mathematical statistics become illogical as the full length of the game is an irrelevant measure in determining the actual sporting contest.

Tex leads the league in % of entries directed at him. A fair gap to 2nd. Fair to say it’s still his forward line and everyone else fights for what’s left over.

There's something on the nose .....one of the most important games of the season & we come out to play like meek lambs

Interesting, similar comments were made about some of our players in the SANFL ??

That said, there's a tipping point with injuries .....Milera, Thilthorpe, Rankine, Pedlar, Worrell, Himmelberg .....then add Walker, & Dawson

8 players missing !

Smith is gone, is running like a Draft Horse, and he was directly responsible for half a dozen turnovers in that 1st Qtr and half

Don't be fooled by Crouch's disposals .....it's fools gold ....each time HAW broke clear at CBA's, it was Crouch languishing back in the centre circle
It's foolish to think that getting cheap disposals, with zero impact, compensates for his snail pace & lack of any form of defence

Laird also, as I indicated last year, has slowed down .....and his #1 wood, his 2 mtre circle speed has gone
Telling that Laird was sent to DEF ....so there's a recognition of the problem .....you can't hide Crouch, and we truly have no-one in the SANFL capable of making a significant in-put

Anyone saying we don't need a Stiffy Johncock type BP ...and Michalanney can do the job .....BS
Michalanney needs to be played higher up the ground, to use his pace, and replace Smith .....not be dragged back to the goalsquare as he was today

Full of admiration for Soligo, Hinge, Keane, Nankervis, and Cook .....growing admiration for Butts 👍

Burgess, simply a fill-in, not AFL standard ....a FWD line of Burgess and Fog .....man, that's ugly

Dawson couldn't run

But yet again, the root cause of all our problems is a slow, impactless midfield
Isn’t it on the coach not to play injured players?
If the midfield isn’t firing shouldn’t the coach be trying for a new mix and ideas?
Wouldn’t the coach see the need for a back pocket specialist and pick someone to do the job, or at least give them a go, like Hamill?
Something is on the nose. It has been for a couple of years and it’s our head coach. He is responsible for selections and game day. Others can have an input but the buck stops with him.

I don't know how anyone could watch that game and accuse one of our forwards of downhill skiing. Unbelievable.

As bad as he has been, he could at least be deployed behind the ball to address an extremely predictable imbalance. Crouch is midfield and bench, there’s no future in that.

The crazy thing is, that was why he was identified as a player to move on, he had no second bow to his game and near 5 years on, we still can't let go

There is absolutely no reason Laird, Smith and Rob should be in the team.

Laird and Smith are completely finished. They are so off the pace it’s laughable. In Lairds case he carries himself on the field like he has somehow been hard done by.

Rob is absolute garbage and only a clown like Nicks could justify the continued selection of this giant spud. If there aren’t 50 guys in the SANFL and amateur league that couldn’t offer more than this 201cm uncoordinated brick then we have serious talent issues in this state.

If there was only a way we didn't have to select players that make basic skill errors......
Sorry mate but the whole team were poor.
I'm not defending the coach but the players should be accountable for that shite performance.

I will say this. I'm not saying that the umps were a reason for loss but the new htb interpretation favoured the hawks/the home team.

As I said last week... Everyone was fapping over how good we were when I said 'Lets see us back it up this week against actual opponents away'.

As expected we weren't up to it, really outside Rankine and Worrell you can't blame injuries (granted Tex and Dawson were ginger in game day but it didn't cost us the game).

Our soft weak insipid gutless spineless squib underbelly cost us the game along with that bald bloke in the coaches box.
You forgot ‘ vanilla’

By all means give Strachan a crack but beating up on undersized SANFL journeyman rucks is a long way off AFL rucks...a country mile off.

The last time ROB played SANFL

37 disposals 42 hit outs, 13 clearances, 11 marks (4 contested)

Did Crouch have one possession today that went fwd and further than 15 mtrs .....I counted one kick fwd, that was it

He honestly slows our ball movement .....tries his guts out, gets heaps of possessions ....but slows us down & he simply is not a playmaker ....nor is Laird now

How many possessions did he win at stoppages and give to players in a position to distribute

Don't care, I'd rather Strahan than that oaf Rob any longer.

I've suggested before that we should see if we can grab Ladhams cheap from Sydney.

He'd be an instant upgrade on ROB

Stratchan is worse than ROB and unless he get a better ruckman he'll remain our number 1 ruck.

Why do you think we kicked 2 goals in the first half and 10 in the second with the same players?

And to add to my earlier post re: away wins, the wins not against WCE/North have been:

2 points vs Carlton 2024
1 point vs Bulldogs 2022
3 points vs Hawthorn 2023
6 points vs Saints 2021 (Cairns)
19 points vs Hawthorn 2021 (no crowd at Docklands)
16 points vs Carlton 2020 (COVID Cup on the GC)

Luckily we scraped some late wins or else our away record would look even uglier.

It's upsetting watching a hack coach sacrifice any development and future we have in a desperate attempt to meet his (must be EXTREMELY low bar) KPI's to hang onto his job.

The irony is that if he actually dropped some players letting him down, rested clearly injured players and gave kids a chance we might be in a better position.

Has to go. It's fantasy stuff but what a boost it would be if he was sacked before the Tigers game.

That's not the point ....how many mtrs gained did Newcomb and Day get ....with Crouch strolling behind in the centre circle, as the two HAW players stormed towards F50

The measure of a mid today, is their ability to break clear of stoppage, use their legs .....just watch Oliver & Petracca .....Green, JHF and Butters .....they're using their legs, to try and come thru the fwd exit of stoppage .....puts oppo defences under enormous pressure ....not enough time for mids to get back and help

Crouch gives to other players, not in a more advantageous position ....normally laterally ...and allows opp mids enough time to get into DEF

I suggest you at least watch his 3rd quarter

I suggest you at least watch his 3rd quarter
Game was over .....and Crouch, Laird, and Smith were large contributors to that fact

Looks like even the Tiges are showing some significant improvement. Are we headed to norf levels of regression again?
