Review The Good, Bad and Ugly vs. Hawthorn Hawks

Good: Borlase intercept marking.

Bad:
Matt Crouch being our best midfielder is just so sad, its really depressing. (AND HE WAS INJURED... OHHHH)

Bud fug ugly:
Fogarty going up with 1 hand to every contest, provided nothing when we needed him.

Dawson wasn't right, shouldn't have played

"To start like that, means you wont win, especially with a pathetic effort from Pi.. <<EVERYONE>>"

I wonder if Nicks went from "I'm proud" to "Ill spew up" post game. (If Nicks comes out and says they are still playing to make the finals I'll do the spewing up)

When we aren't in control, the opposition just waltz the ball out of our defence and leisurely stroll through the middle of the ground with 45M passes to players 20M in the clear on a lead. Hard to blame the defence when its like watching a game from 1993 when the worst side could kick 130 points and still lose.

2018 Pick 9 and 16 (No Zak Butters for us), Pick 6 2019 (no Hayden Young, Caleb Serong or Will Day for us), pick 15 2016 (no Will Hayward for us), pick 11 2020.

Can't blame us for stalling, our best players are rejects, trades and rookies as part of a "rebuild." Our pick 5 from 2021 had 11 touches, 15 squibs and a goal assist.

Good night Adelaide, lets look to the dreary shores of 2025 with our band of misfits in the delusional hope that a non pressured kick forward actually hits a target.

If you don't play Dawson, you may as well forfeit before the game even starts. Way too important to Adelaide's chances of winning, especially with Rankine out, seeing he's the catalyst to our offensive game.

Mind you, we may have been better forfeiting seeing Tex back flared up and Crouch picked up a season ending shoulder injury.

I'm not sure the relevance

Or did he play through the injury?
I'm pretty sure fairly early in the game the commentator on the sidelines said Matt had the medicos checking out his shoulder and it was decided to strap it, he then played out the game. Later seen with the arm in a sling which doesn't sound like it was just a garden variety type shoulder niggle.

Edit : Checked the club website.

Crows midfielder Matt Crouch will have season ending shoulder surgery this week.

The 29-year-old suffered a knock in the first quarter of Saturday's loss to Hawthorn and subsequent scans confirmed a right AC joint injury.

"It's really disappointing for Matt who has been playing some great footy this year," Adelaide High Performance Manager Darren Burgess said.

"Unfortunately, the severity of the injury requires surgery and he will miss the rest of the season.

"But the timing of it means he will begin his rehabilitation straight away and be ready for the start of pre-season."

You would think it’s a career ending injury. Next year the mix should be Dawson, Rankine and Soligo mainly with cameos from the others. After getting dropped to SANFL and never dropping his head, working on his game and forcing his way back into the side where he has played well it’s a real shame for this to happen. Genuinely feel for the guy. He’s shown more character in his little finger than Smith, Rob and Laird combined.
The other shit part of this news is Laird is guaranteed to play more midfield now 😟. Just when it looked like we were finally moving him out.

Also, I didn't see the whole game, but it's listed Michaelanny as someone who got 37% of CBAs. How did he go when he switched?
He had 5 CBAs in Q3 and 7 in Q4.
Didn't have a huge impact - only got the one clearance, and only had 9 disposals - but good to see something different.

Ugly - this:

This kind of behaviour cannot continue.

Smithers...

Someone should send this to the club and ask how this could be remotely acceptable from a Senior player in the leadership group?

Maybe they should put that on the big screen during training this week?

So Jason Dunstall says on On the Couch - Rory Laird lacks pace and quality of ball movement.

Is anyone at the club going to listen to these sort of commentary? I mean Dunstall is a champion of the game.

Laird back to being a lock for CBA with Crouch out , potentially Dawson out

Would be worth the club getting someone like Dunstall to advise the club.

We could do with some smart football people at the club...

I sometimes honestly think Smith needs to get his vision checked when you see footage like that. Feels like he's playing out there half blind or something when he's misjudging the ball that badly

Multiple concussions?

Always looks half frazzled out there this year?

I think the answer is yes, the club does listen to media figures when they criticise the club, for better or worse. This is relatively rare for national AFL media to comment directly on the Crows in a negative way and I think there's usually a reaction (like the 'vanilla midfield' stuff after the first couple of weeks).
