Review The Good, Bad and Ugly vs. Hawthorn Hawks

Awful skills from us today. Lost count of how many times we kicked straight to a Hawks player all by themselves. Lacked intensity right from the opening bounce and were never in it.

ROB was terrible, the fact we haven't drafted a ruck in years is a massive fail from our recruitment team. He is useless and we have no developing ruck to put any pressure on him to hold his spot.

Ugly - whoever decided that a predominantly red and yellow guernsey was a good clash for a yellow and brown guernsey. Why would we not wear our normal blue guernsey with white shorts??

I thought our handballing was even worse than our kicking. I couldn’t keep up with how many handballs went straight past a team mate.

Everyone can **** off with the Rachelle bashing.
How the **** is anyone improving in this program?

Plodders like Keays, laird,Crouch, Murphy, McHenry are automatic picks. We are going to lose some talent
You're not listening to the club are you? We're going hard at GAINING talent this off season. Can't wait to see the talent that want to join our program under Nicks.

Imagine too the top kids in the draft this year looking at the AFC with Nicks and the BBQ'ing of talent we do, you would be absolutely avoiding us like the plague.

So based on the tone of this thread, i am guessing i shouldn't watch the game after work today. I hate not watching the team, but not sure I want to sit there and watch us play as what many of you are reporting. Enough of us by the looks of it were submitted to enough pain for the day.

Where are the Happy Clappers? we need some positivity, even if its the drinking of the bath water type stuff.

Still can’t work out why we’ve gone with the chip chip chip, especially with our skills, surely you tailor a game plan to the players you have?
...and to the opposition, but we always try to stick to our game plan regardless of how ineffective it is and until it's too late when we finally adapt.

Cook was good.

Can't think of any other positives.

Rachele is a genuine concern. Multiple opportunities to take over head marks and failed.

Hanging around looking for the cheap ball rather than get the hard ball himself.

Overall just not looking interested.

Had a real chance to step up with Rankine out and has failed.

Rachelle looks confused. The kid has swagger and is an extrovert - and struggles to be himself when things aren’t going his way so completely retreats into his shell. Needs to have NBA attitude. Doesn’t matter if you miss your first 10 shots. Just keep shooting and hush the crowd when one drops!

We should never play in that predominantly Red guernsey when playing interstate as I struggle to recall any games that we won playing in it.

Good
Watched it on delay so only wasted 1.5 hours instead of 3.

Bad
Our innate inability to get up for a match. Came out with negative intensity. Could see within 2 minutes we were not switched on in the slightest. Even blokes like Dawson were jogging and standing back. 10 months on and it's the same shit that cost us Finals last year. This is our DNA as a club and the blowtorch needs to be on.

Why can we not get up for a big match? Hawthorn by no means blew us off the park, we were just in neutral and they took advantage.

Fumbles, concrete hands from every single player on our side.

Struggling to think of even one player that won their position.

Ugly
The umpiring of holding the ball has gone from terribly under-umpired to horrendously over-umpired. AFL as usual going way overboard and overcorrecting.

We should only be playing in the red strip if we are playing a side with blue in their guernsey. Otherwise just wear our normal guernsey with white shorts.

Watch the third quarter to see a couple of good goals by Cook. And Max have a run in the middle (yep that’s how bad we were).

So what on earth do we work on at training? Shape and structure at the expense of kicking and catching the ball?

Coaching includes improving skills and decision-making, deficiencies our coaching group struggle to correct.

And whilst Nicks should shoulder most of the blame, Burns, Van Berlo and in particular Godden should all be in the gun. And Burgess shouldn’t escape scrutiny either, our players continue to be shifted off the line too easily in ground ball and marking contests.

I’ll leave Hamish and Reid for another day…..
