Autopsy The Good (lol!) The Bad and the Beveridge.

It's a solid strategy to play Naughton deep on a guy who loves nothing better than to play a static game where he can use his bulk to advantage. So much for the pre-season games where he played high with stints through the middle. I guess that was just a bit of a lark and we should go with playing him to Mays advantage. Yet again.

Of all the things that pissed me off with Beveridge today (and there was a multitude) it was leaving Naughton deep in the forward line for the entire ******* game.
He is not natural forward. Few leading patterns. Play him high he has to lead. Deep forward may as well get him back to CHB

Bramble and Gallagher were good

Coffield ok

If we select a team for quick ball movement we kind of have to do quick ball movement not crab it up the field.

Probably in that 12th-7th range again this year
Long season but 9th-14th feels about right. We haven’t had a statement win since 2021.

What else is there to say? What type of copium would you have be on to think that bringing in Pratt and Eagan would magically make Bevo a good coach? Grant and Bains surely can’t survive for deciding to bring back this clown.

The next coach we get, I want a hard nut. I want someone that will smash heads together, demand better, demand success, reward performance, not play favourites with plodders.

Throw this sensitive s*** out the window. You don't perform, you're out.

FFS this club has got to grow a spine at some point. On and off field.

The players are clearly thrilled with themselves and the coach is just one of those types that gets a job based on their mouth saying all the right things, what the boss wants to hear. Gets runs on the board early and then goes missing and phones it in after a while.

All we can do is sit and wait as it is Round 1 but everything in that game pointed to another 2023 season

Broken tackles
Concede multiple goals with no response
Cannot break tackles
Ball movement issues
And most important WE lack integrity as a side.

None of what happened today was a surprise to me.

That said, it’s still always a good time to give Beveridge a spray.

I’m sick to ****ing death of him.

Year after year he persists with battlers who aren’t up to it - McNeil, Gowers, McComb, Honeychurch - and he just never ****ing learns that they’re not up to it.

3 goals today were directly from McNeil’s clangers. Meanwhile we have premiership player and arguably best kick in the league Caleb Daniel sitting on the bench. Genius.

Goal kicking again atrocious, what else is new.

Melbourne again laughing their **** off at our “game plan”, what else is new.

I need a Valium.

Honestly.

The problem with our team selection favouring quick movement is that many of the guys who were brought in are very fumbly.

We were pretty bad almost across the board. But the guys who most would rate in the 15-23 range of the list were ****ing atrocious.

I think we saw how great a loss Smith is going to be over this coming season on full display today. He cannot be covered by the likes of VDM, McNeil, Williams who just doesn't get enough heat in here or any of the other fringe palookas we've brought into the side.

The thing that is so hard to stomach with these Bulldogs is that they are just psychologically weak. Even in our dark years, I loved following the Dogs because they had ticker. They didn't have a lot of talent but they gave it their all. These blokes just don't seem like they give a shit. They're a bunch of cowards, to be frank. The way May drove Harmes into the turf after that tackle... you'd never see us doing that. Nor do we retaliate when it's done to us. That really tells you a lot about the psychology of the team. They have a real prey/victim psychology that started after 2016 and has been getting worse every year. There's a learned helplessness within the collective psychology of this group. Essentially we are a bunch of cucks.

Getting consistent these poor season starts.

Under 3 goals and we could argue about the extra game the Dee's played. That was not the case.

McNeil is not up to it nor is VDM buy really there are a few senior players that need to be looked ar.

Dale's strengths moving back have all evaporated. Move him to the wing where we do not have a winger is really his last role.

English should not in any way get more than a 4 year deal. Would question ant million plus deals.

Darcy is already ahead of English and Lobb. Play him.

If JOD is not ready for next week we have to play Keath and hope had has not totally gone over the cliff..

The 3 new boys from other clubs were ok and should play next week as should Gallagher and Sanders.

Next week is a big week for us, a shame 80 to 90% of our members let alone supporters can't get along

The whole point in leaving Macrae and Daniel out of the side was to reward preseason form and to get more speed into the side.

Now that just looks like a dumb decision, since we didn't look any quicker and players that played well in the training drill against Hawthorn stunk it up.

Why are we playing along the wings when we've committed to a quick, run and carry team? If we lost trying to run the ball through the middle I would be more accepting of that.

Goal kicking was hard to cop. Essendon kicked 17.5 yesterday. Can’t remember the last time we had a score line like that

Bramble smashed it today. He was playing like that in his debut year. Hope he keeps it up.

Obviously just needed a change in scenery.

same round 1 as always, except for the clear advantage melbourne had in cleanness and fitness from round zero.

rewarding the preseason track flyers and not picking your best side
run of consecutive goals against out of nowhere, this pattern sees no end in site
Bramble the only positive

Not sure why English is getting the criticism for Lobb's awful stints in the ruck. Accepting Gawn as an elite player Lobb just allowed Gawn to tap it (or thump) to where he wanted numerous times.
