Its clear hes that personality and leader who thinks he knows everything, doesn't respect or care for the opinions of others, will attack anyone who slights him even slightly and will give jobs to mates and yes men and get rid of anyone who would challenge him.
You just described Donald Trump :D

Hell I am sick of that crap . Yes we have been slow to promote kids .
But you have to earn a position and simply Jones has been given games on promise and hasn't delivered yet .
I still think Jones still can be good player for us but hasn't grabbed his chance yet .
You will have posters going off the head about kids not getting chance if correctly McHenry gets dropped after looking like a u- 14 playing in AFL and I am not just talking about size. Look what Hamill did today where he showed he can compete at this level.

Ah "earn a position", the calling card of someone who is only thinking one week at a time. If our last 22 years have not been a stark warning against such thinking. It's risk-averse.

Jones earned a position by virtue of the senior players not being worthwhile, by the virtue of being a high-level draft pick and by virtue of us needing to develop the next generation quickly (as all sides do). He should have had 22 games last season, not 8 because he was talented enough to play every game when fit.

Competitive sport rewards planning. If you know a kid is likely a key piece in your future, you throw them in an AFL side as quickly as possible and let them learn. Otherwise, all you're doing is developing mediocracy whilst you are pissing the opportunity away to have a brighter future. It's not healthy. It's not "good culture". Its failing at the basics of how to develop a list.

It is a large part of the reason we are in the mess we are in.

McPherson is still on the list is he?
McPherson & Wilson are both still on the list. McPherson's status should have been "yet to debut", and Wilson's "2 games, not the answer".

That doesn't alter the main point of the tweet though - which is unfailingly accurate.

While i agree the info was out in the media what these players were getting offered plus or minus 50k the problem I have that he is playing the victim card and blaming the player, agents, afl, other clubs etc. He is looking backwards instead of looking forward. How bout being a self aware individual and looking at your list management mark? Are you capable of self evaluation or do you think your perfect and it's everyone else's fault? I have news for you. You have indeed f’ed up our list management along with Burton, Reid, Pyke, Fagan. Taking no responsibility and playing the victim card is sad and quite frankly embarrassing. Start acting maturely instead of being emotional and irrational. Players leave for a variety of reasons. They leave for more opportunity, poor relationships with other players, partner reasons, family reasons, post career opportunity reasons, poor club culture reasons, coach and assistant dislike, and most importantly Mark: List management reasons. How has the money been spread? Where has our cap gone Mark? On your clique set mates and players you allowed to get the better of you by threatening to leave. We would like to know why you can't take any responsibility? Do you at all feel any guilt for how you have been a significant factor in the state of our list and club? Unlikely.
His answer was that of a media football expert about why the players left the Crows and not as a board director at the Crows. Internally, he better be asking himself and the entire organisation these tough questions. IMO, the salary spread which the Crows adopted similar to Geelong doesn't work anymore since the free agency so players should get pay what they are worth, hence why we didn't match the $800-850K for Lever and McGovern which was the correct decision. Cameron on the other started to show sign with his worth in the preliminary final against Geelong, we should have offered him $200-300K more to see if we could have kept him.

Mind you a huge majority of them haven't been given the opportunity and we know why under Pyke so very hard to totally judge the list until then, look at Hamil today who didn't look out of place with an onslaught in defence and McHenry didn't look out of place last week in the Showdown. He also rated Doedee as just a "good" defender...???

Disagree. For someone who got the win, it is showing a lot of bitterness. All said and done, he still wasn't worth a 4 year deal at the crows.
At one stage, Greenwood had one less clearance than the whole Crows side.
His 10 possessions were ALL contested.
Greenwood laid 13 tackles.
I'd have him back in our midfield-rotating-forward on a 4-year deal in a heartbeat. He'd show our rookies more about contested footy and tackling than the rabble we had playing today.

It's best he shuts up. I don't like board members in the media. He should stick to media and other interests imo. Players care about maximising their return on investment, their working environment and lastly success. The problem is not just the players we lost but why they wanted to leave. The club decides who leaves, not them. That is the secret to a successful club. Sure you will get the odd player who gets offered a bit more or hates the coach etc. The other factor is that a poorly run club doesn't attract quality talent. Who have we brought in of quality? Betts. Anyone else. No one. Why? We had no money. We backed the wrong horses instead of thinking future. The secret to winning is list management. Whoever manages it the best wins.

Watched the whole thing to my disgust I’m unsure if we have a game plan at all, it’s one thing to fail at executing it, we don’t even start it, are we are rebounding attacking team that starts from half back? Do we try design a team around first ball use and control possession and work it around? Or is it chaos ball or attack at all costs?

I’d be much happier sitting 0-3 having seen 3 games following a game plan designed around the next 4 years than the garbage I’ve seen so far

We're already stuck with paying salaries for Betts & Jenkins, and have Gibbs & Walker both contracted for 2021, because JR gave them all contracts that were 1-2 years too long... and you think they should have given a 28yo Greenwood a 4-year contract? **** no.

Blight wasn't a rookie coach when he took the AFC job. He'd already taken Geelong to three Grand Finals.

And had a start in a still competitive sanfl in a time without many assistants and in Woodville as a playing coach. blights right the theory is sound even if tactically it needs to be adjusted for the modern game.

Aside from Hamill today no one took the game on to kick down the middle, let alone any of our players leading/presenting to give our defenders choices

No, living under a rock wouldn't suit me.
I know all the stuff we read in the media...camp, Covid-19 stuff up, players leaving, yada yada yada. My theory, and I may be wrong, is there is some other deep-seated issue festering away at the AFC. Too many genuinely talented footballers all underachieving to buggery at the same time. That's what gives me the feeling there is something more than super-sleuths like Caro, Damo, Kane C etc have sniffed out.
I agree Bear. When you look at the experience we have in that team and think about how we are playing it clearly suggests that the players are not putting in the 100% effort we had come to expect. I understand our forward line has been shredded but our midfield and the defenders still have a lot of experience. So for me something else is simmering.

Results, over time, are a reflection of leadership. We are exactly where we ought to be.

Today's result should end some careers on and off-field, particularly in off-field leadership. Rebuilding is acceptable, but not led by the exact people who got us in to this clusterf*ck.

We need a mechanism to pressure the Board, or to overhaul it, but unfortunately there isn't one. Which is in itself a significant issue.

I cannot like this enough, the on-field leadership has been non-existent over the last two weeks (7 players in today’s team have been selected as All-Aus or in All-Aus squad) and it’s evident that our off-field leaders can’t read the room. As a long time member I can handle a rebuild but not the witches hats rubbish currently being dished up.

honestly Davis needs to play instead of Murphy, McAdam ahead of Lynch and Scholl instead of Seedsman

we cannot waste another year om not getting games into young players
Cannot go too far otherwise there is no learning via osmosis, just headless chickens no on field mentoring and leadership ala the demons and blues.

You guys watch Nicks press conference? Looks pretty upset:

Yeah I watched it. Thought he still doesn't totally get it. His structure and selection is completely wrong. No point in him being upset. Good opportunity for him to put his mark on the club if he is up to it.

What are your thoughts on O'Brien? I've been impressed but listening to AA they seem less so.
O'Brien will be ok - he got beat. But this smackdown of RoB started in the pre-season game

RoB needs to adjust or be better around the grounds - our midfielders also need to adjust

Are you advocating for us to go after Ross Lyon?

It might be, but perhaps more accurate would be a list of who we missed and should have selected out of the next 5 picks from each. Hard to pick elite talent with no high draft picks...

Spot on - of all the culprits for this mess, and there are a few, Pyke must take a big part of the responsibility with his stubborn and steadfast devotion to continuity.
