Junior.

Let Browny or Corey contest the centre square bounce then let Junior tage him. Great match up for all of Goodes's positives and will hopefully progress Junior a little bit at the same time.

At throw ins, Junior can either jump over the top or a larger body perhaps go at it for them.

Just a thought.

Dont agree with Junior being the man, let the kid cause his own havoc and the swannies work out who to play on him. Taggers shouldnt be your most attacking players, they should be your most committed and dour players. Leroy has the mobility to do it, but does like to attack as well.

Interesting to see how Tunnel gives the gig to.

IMO sydney will be a seriously tough match and it will come down to more than just goodes, they have (like us) an even contribution with no passengers so it's the battle of "who's the best team".

but i was also thinking Brown would be our best matchup for Goodes. But i'm also considering it a no-win situation because really I don't think anyone in our team can nullify Goodes effectiveness, he's just head and shoulders above all our key position players.

Motlop would be a good match-up, but maybe because he's aboriginal it's not such a good match-up as aboriginals tend to get very buddy buddy on the field and moti will most likely lose concentration. Plus we'd be losing a very potent yet inconsistent forward option.

Brown we're losing a potential key forward focal point for a defensive mobile ruckman

And firrito i think is just not tall enough, but certainly his toughness helps, and he's pretty good in the air too. I just think he's a little too short. I think 10 cm too short in this case. Probably better to put him on a Paul williams and Rawlings on a maxfield.

I've read some pretty stupid comments on this board over the years, but this one takes the cake.

Assuming that NeoBlaze is right, then surely putting Motlop on Goodes is the right move. After all, if Motlop is too busy socialising with Goodes on the field, then surely Goodes will also be losing concentration as they swap social chit chat. In fact, since Aboriginals have such a tendency to get "buddy buddy" on the field, why not ring up Warren Campbell, put him back on the list, and play him every week on the most dangerous Aboriginal on the opposition side? His opponent would be too busy getting "buddy buddy" with him to concentrate on playing footy. It's a stroke of genius NeoBlaze - someone should give you a job on the match committee.

why has only one person considered spud?? he is our strongest tagger and has already shut out one brownlow medalist this is his chance to stop another he will match goodes for size and can ruck around the ground with goodes

Firrito-Goodes
Rawlings-Bolton
M Stevens-Maxfield
Corey Jones-Leo Barry
Motlop-Kennely(he has broken ribs-may miss)
Petrie-Saddington
Brown-Bolton
Watt-Barry Hall
Wells-Olaughlan
Makepeace-Schnider

not really. Dean Rioli (admittedly, not the best example, but still relevant) was talking on the Footy show ages back about playing against Port Adelaide and more specifically Peter Burgoyne and Shaun and how when the ball isn't anywhere near them, he'd just chat to him on the field and get his concentration off the ball. and this is not verbatem but he was going along the lines of "it's really tough playing against him because he's so annoying". Now we all hate to admit it but Rioli is close mates to Junior and Junior does tend to get distracted on the field. It wasn't too long ago that Laidley was critising Junior in particular for being "too nice" to opposition players and not getting on with his own business.

Nothing against aboriginal players, I confess it didn't come out too well and i don't want to make it sound like a stereotypical view of aboriginal players.

I don't necessarily agree with that, but I can now see where you're coming from.

As odd an observation as I reckon it is/was, I don't think it came out as stereotypical or racist, but TGC probably wouldn't have thought so either if you or Moti didn't write it.

Probably start with Brown. I haven't seen enough defensive stuff from Motlop. I like him to be close to the goals where he only needs 10 kicks a match to kick 3 or 4 goals.

Maybe Wells is worth a shot. Certainly quick enough, has a great leap, and we all know he's great defensively.

Motlop is good aerially, but I reckon he'd struggle against someone who is just as good aerially (inch for inch) and is three or four inches taller.

Wells won't have a chance in the air against Goodes.

Also I think the oppoent will ideally be someone who can also match up on Jason Ball when the Swans rest their ruckmen... having a player who can potentially match up on both of them gives me more confidence that there is a plan B in place should a swap be needed.

i think it is great how the aboriginal boys are so close and all no eachother and stop have a chat after the game some times even during the game, but it is no different to leigh brown and matthew pavlich talking to eachother, thats just one that come to mind.

Welcome to the most politically correct chat board in the world.

Anyone remember Farmer chopping up Byron to send us hurtling out of the 2000 finals series? I heard comments remarkably similar to Neo's being posed by more than one Roo fan after the game.

But then again that's probably being racist?

Surely for a tagging job you don't want someone who is matey with someone else? To be a good tagger you need to scrag, harrass, shirtfront, make the day miserable for them. an you see Junior getting that angry to Goodes?

Firrito and Mitchell are friends and played in the junior competition together. It got quite heated in the Hawthorn game between those two. I dont think the friendship outside of the game matters if your approach to football is good.

On the same subject but from a different perspective the most boring matchup in boxing has always been 2 aborigine fighters as they tend not to attack each other with the ferocity that is expected from people involved in the sport..

cheers

SPUD......................he DOES have enough height, CAN run all day, and DOES have the necessary strength required for the bigger body of Goodes. I reckon he'd relish the challenge too.

Leroy........not a bad option either, but I reckon he'd be knackered running all over the field with Goodes (an endurance machine), and could be better used in attack or down back, with only stints in the middle.

Just my thoughts............

Eh? I hardly think that this board is the most politically correct one. NeoBlaze has his view, I have mine.

Of course, Farmer isn't allowed to have a good game (and didn't he kick about 70 odd goals that season?). Roos fans may have been looking for any excuse for why Farmer beat Choppy and that was the only one they could find.

I don't think there is any evidence to suggest that Daniel Motlop wouldn't fight as hard for the ball if his opponent was Adam Goodes rather than a player who wasn't Aboriginal.

I don't think I could see Junior getting angry at anyone. And anyway, you missed the point of my p*sstake.
