Discussion pertaining to the NBA mega trade involving Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis. The Mavericks going for a win now and need move with effectively no centres available on their roster.

Furthermore, with this move, the Mavs escape the supermax extension Donc was eligible for. Given President Trumps threats and introduction of tariffs, expectations of costs to be passed onto American consumers will lead to higher costs of living. The Mavs are fiscally wise.

So the why seems to be Dallas GM thinks they needed to improve on defense to compete, along with wanting AD to play at PF alongside the Lively/Galford duo, thinking he can get AD back to MVP form back at PF .

I just feel the GM didn’t trust that Luka/Irving duo anymore
But the spacing with those two and AD isn’t great. Also they have a quality power forward already.

I don’t think either team had a winning roster before this trade and neither does after the trade. I’d rather be the Mavs though.

My personal opinion is Luka will never win a title anywhere. Great player - but more James Harden than LeBron James.

LeBron is probably done - I can’t believe they have never built a team around him with the right 3&D guys.

AD could surprise with Kyrie - especially if he does not have to carry the centre load.

You may or may not be right about luka having what it takes, but they haven’t swapped him for a guy with higher potential to take them to the promised land.

If 2025 ad and LeBron aren’t doing it how is ad and Irving?

I've already said, unless something else is happening, we have punted this season to cash in for the future
We can't defend or rebound to save ourselves as currently constructed
Not even sure it's more fun to watch with all the ball dominance and we can't shoot a lick either!
The Lakers had no chance of contending this year either way, but now instead of having no future either they have one of the best youngish players for the next 10 years.

It is not about the individual quality of the player though, it is about the balance of the combination.

An elite big with an elite small makes more sense than two elite bigs or two elite smalls IMO.

I think Kyrie and AD is more balanced than Kyrie and Luka. And I also think AD could surprise if he gets the centre he has been asking for.

PJ Washington will be goneski. Will have a ton of suitors and can upgrade them at SF.

Judging it all a bit soon from all perspectives as I think both Lakers/Mavs have more trades to do
This is likely but also why the trade makes 0 ****ing sense.

You have two elite guards that have proven they work together. You have a great front 4/5 trio in PJ/Gafford/Lively. Decent wing depth although not great. They don’t NEED a PF.

Upgrading PJ is nice but he is a great piece for a role player and not someone they should have been uneasy about relying on.

They believed Luka/Kyrie didn’t work together however. That’s the difference in your opinion to Dallas GM.

I’d trade for a PF in the situation too. It was the only trade to make.Absolutely zero SF worth what Luka is

Insanity.

There has to be something going on behind the scenes from Dallas' perspective that has made them trade away a top 3 player in the world when he was committed to your franchise and basically locked in to signing a super max in the future.

You basically had Luka for most of his career. Yet you actively get rid of him.

Something is going on behind the scenes.

It's just crazy.

I dont think it really helps either team as well. Both will make more moves so will have to wait and see but the Lakers arent moving LeBron so I dont know how Luka and LeBron function when both need the ball in their hands 90% of the time.

I don’t think Kyrie ad lively is as balanced as you think it is.

There’s no reason to suspect that group is much better than ad and LeBron who weren’t going anywhere this season.

The problem with AD is he doesnt want to play C but in the modern NBA you cant have two bigs on the floor who cant shoot. So AD refuses to play C so you have Lively on the floor at the same time means you're down a shooter. Offense will stagnate.

That's why coaches keep asking AD to play the 5. Dallas will want him to eventually as well.

The Mavs need to get someone in with vision and the ability to masterfully negotiate a trade. A certain man who was with Essendon for 20 years until recently springs to mind.....

There is a world where the Mavs are better here and now, and can still get a nice piece for Gafford.

But 28 other teams would have put a better package together than that.
