To anyone who may be interested, particularly those that aren’t concerned for the health of their ears, The Restump Podcast is Fremantle Docker oriented noise simply created and hosted by two mates and Fremantle fans since the start, Brett “Jojo” McDonnell and Greg “Chief” Dwyer. Occasionally Alan “the Badger” Loveridge joins us as a guest, revealing his wagering opportunities.

The podcast has been in operation for about twelve months and we’re slowly building a listener base, consisting predominantly of those who set their audio content quality bars very low. We under-promise and most times deliver on them. We opt to put a humorous spin on the daily happenings, a mark of which we’ve been wide of more often than not. JoJo is the brains behind the operation while the Chief has a habit of sensationalising the trivial. The use of embellishment and alternative facts when it comes to accusing opposing teams of anything hasn’t yet but will inevitably be fact checked as fake news at some point but we won’t stop until we achieve that goal. Quite simply its everything Fremantle first and a lot of daylight second.

So if your sock drawer is already tidy, the paint in your house is dry and you don’t have any lawn to watch grow, feel free to tune in every now and then with low expectations and see if we meet them.

On a more serious note, there are already some on here who have a listen and we really appreciate you doing so. For those that haven’t, give the Restump noise a chance and if it’s not for you…. well at least you won’t die wondering.

The post-draft podcast. Did Freo change tack or did they simply take the best available player?

We went in apparently chasing outside speed runners and forwards but somehow ended up running with the “too many defenders are never enough” policy. There’ll be plenty of jostling for position as defensive real estate anywhere in the Freo backline is booming. If It wasn’t an embarrassment of riches before the draft it certainly is now.

Welcome to the Chapmans, O’Driscolls, Westerns and Walkers….. but a special welcome to the bone crushing rookie drafted forward Josh “Dick” Treacy. He may have just solved the case of the elusive Freo forward.

It's a new year, a new season and we’re easing back into it.

In this first podcast for the year we look at what’s going on around the Freo traps. Rory gets a run, the predictable annual reports of players “training the house down” are in and the early, in more ways than one, fixtures are out. The Chief has marked out a big year for Sam Switkowski and we respectfully discuss the Hannah Mouncey situation.

We’re a bit rusty after the break and the production isn't at it's finest but they're minor issues which will be ironed out in the preseason.

We tackle many a tough question in this episode of the podcast but none more so than the big one everyone is asking….. is Sean Darcy made out of paper mache?

Sean Darcy has gone down again and with such regularity it’s becoming an annual case of when, not if. Hopefully the 2 to 4 week setback is the extent of it and there are no further complications. The question has to be asked though, is it a Jason Webber hangover injury that can only be fixed by Gerard “Backyard” Baxter, AKA The Magician? It has substantial ramifications for Rory Lobb and Lloyd Meek and the Chief already has the door open for Josh Treacy.

We talk Tabs and Cerra, both out of contract at the end of 2021. Two vital signatures that the sooner they're secured the more relaxed we'll all be. If anyone sees either of them anywhere, give them a pen!

All that nonsense and plenty more for anyone's ears that don't have a better option.

There are just two weeks until the Freo boys are back in action. In this episode of The Restump Podcast podcast it's more preseason ramblings, which may leave us with more questions than answers!

JL wants an extra 5 goals per game so where are they coming from? does the majority of the burden fall on the capable and ever reliable shoulders of Sonny Walters? How are the injured tracking? What does the defense look like for Rnd1 and can we fit fifteen defenders into six positions? Jojo McDonnell believes ‘close enough is good enough’ as he calls for shorter umpire review time. The Neighbourhood Watch segment is unveiled and Arnold Schwarzenegger calls for Lachie Schultz to return his arms.

In this episode of the Restump Podcast we take a look back at Saturday’s practice match and, while maintaining perspective, other than the streaming black out at ¾ time apparently due to broadcasting contractual arrangements, there was little for us Freo fans to complain about.

Decision making and ball movement looked flash the longer the game went on, Lloyd Meek couldn’t have done anything more and on his output its an interesting question how he wasn’t seen last year. Alex Pearce and Joel Hamling seemingly got through unscathed and the great Sonny Walters made clear his 2021 intentions.

Unsurprisingly the Chief raised a couple of external complaints, namely the new manning the mark rule and Gerard Whateley’s dismissive manner, while Jojo McDonnel once again toed the AFL’s line and agreed with their various narratives.

There are 40 plus minutes right here of more purple audio nonsense than anyone should willingly subject their ears to.

On this episode of the podcast we take a look at yesterday’s carnage, being the game and the injury toll. A bunch of boys got banged up and it was hard to watch at times. But it’s best to get a reality check when four points aren’t up for grabs.

Jojo McDonnell provides his usual insightful analytical commentary. The depth we thought we had suddenly isn’t as deep as a few got exposed as a few fell. The forward lines are under pressure and coach JL may have to rethink his extra five goals per game desire.

Sporadic they may have been, there were an array of spirit saving highlights. Michael "Freddy" Frederick got a massive tick, Lloyd "Braun" Meek continues to impress and Nat Fyfe just can’t be human! Ethan Hughes got career best numbers but wasn't career best efficiency, Brennan Cox played a ripper under the circumstances and how good is Hayden Young going to be?

We touch on the distasteful and ridiculous booing by West Coast fans and even their mascot wanted out! Jojo started an interesting new segment called “JoJo’s Twitter Take” and the Chief took us through a second running of the Neighbourhood Watch.

Wasn’t the ideal day on Sunday but there was no shortage of content to cover. So bang it in the car on your way to work and press the buttons until the hour long purple nonsensical sound finds its way into your ears.

On this episode we go over Saturday’s horrid round one match. There were some positives but they were wearing some decent camouflage.

If the injury to Alex Pearce and his subsequent reaction didn’t break your heart, you may not be human. The fears up forward became the reality as goals couldn’t be bought, the backline wasn’t quite as productive and we had a couple of wingers well below their best.

But there was a young man of the Hayden variety who stood tall amidst the chaos and performed to a level well beyond his young years. There was a Caleb Serong who signaled he won’t be suffering second year slows and there was an Adam Cerra of which anything he does you can take to the bank, except his shank.

After copping a 2 week suspension in a WAFL scratchy last week, Josh Treacy lines up in a WAFL scratchy this week and kicks 7 goals. Yet he won’t be eligible to play in the purple until round 5…. work that one out! But we have a plan in the works because we need to see the big Cohuna sooner!

Plenty to unpack so there is all the above and shedloads more.

If you’re listening to it in the car, always remember you can wind the window down to drown out the purple noise if need be! God knows we would!

We take a look at the clash against GWS Sunday afternoon, the ins and outs, the reshuffling of the magnets and the seemingly necessary adjustment to the game plan.

We're not calling it an injury crisis just yet but if you owned a pair of boots and had nothing to do on Sunday, you were half a chance at getting a gig! JL has suggested though we’ll see an improved skill level tomorrow arvo. First and foremost though and keeping in theme with title and pod pic, JL surely said to his troups, "Don't you know you better run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run...."

Matty Tabs is with us for another 3 years, whispers suggest Cerra is about to put pen to paper for 4 years and we somehow overlooked the fact that the unassuming James Aish plays his 100th tomorrow night.

Just a tick over 30 minutes of purple nonsense this week down from the usual hour but that doesn’t mean it’s still not half an hour too long! Wee really appreciate anyone who has a listen and hopefully gets some entertainment out of it.

On the late review podcast we go over Fremantle's dominant but inaccurate win against the Giants. Did Coach JL ‘flick the switch’ or was GWS more influential than we care to admit?

We welcomed a victory whatever the case and it should be celebrated. The backline found their mojo, the Conca Truck took care of Toby Green again and Heath Chapman didn’t look out of place on debut. David Mundy proved up yet again that age is just simply a number and Andy Brayshaw put in a career best performance while doing his future captaincy prospects no end of good.

The small forwards did small forward stuff exceptionally well, Schultz and Swita, like Andy Brayshaw, turning career best games. Freddy is improving each time he goes out and the war horse Matty Tabs is doing a power of work under seemingly some level of discomfort and adversity.

Despite it being his 100th game, The Chief wasn’t happy with Jimmy Aish, albeit for his own financial reasons and it was nice to see a return to some form by Blake Acres.

All that and plenty more in the day late match review podcast so bung it in the ears and it’ll get you to work in the morning. Remember though if you listen, its 60 minutes you’ll never get back!

On this episode of the Restump Podcast, we preview the big Easter Sunday game against the Blues. The early weather report suggested a Cyclone was hitting Melbourne but the conditions have changed and now it’s going to be Sonny.

Beware of a criticised Carlton cabal. Paddy Cripps and Marc Murphy have been belted in the media during the week so their response is predictable and our mids need to be ready for the onslaught. But we’ll back Cerra, Serong, Brayshaw, Mundy and whoever else wants to swing through there. Ed Curnow seems to have a day out against us Dockers and while he's not in hot form we best keep an eye on him.

No Fyfe, no Treacy but here comes the Son! Michael Walters will add some bite and class to the forward line to help workhorse Matty Tabs and be complimented by the smalls brigade. Carlton average 12 goals a game so if we quell Harry McKay’s scoreboard influence, it’ll make the task of victory a fair bit easier.

We shall never forget the Jack Newnes scandal of 2020 so we owe the Blue Baggers…. and Jack if the opportunity arises!

After a false start, due to Jojo McDonnell inspired technical difficulties, we finally get the review out on that horrific performance against the Blues on Easter Sunday.

It may have been at Marvel but there was nothing to positively marvel at from a Freo fan’s perspective. However, we win together and we lose together.

Have we been wall-papering over the cracks or does two years younger in age and over 30 games less experience per player account for some degree? Was there a lack of leadership, an absence of work rate? Was the game against the Giants a false positive?

Freddy kicking 1 goal 4 wasn’t the result we were looking for but 5 shots on goal and 7 scoring involvements from a team total of 19 is a decent developmental step forward. Stefan Giro showed promise and it was difficult to be critical of second gamer Heath Chapman’s overall performance. That was though about the extent of our hat hanging factors.

If ever there was a game we didn’t want to talk about twice, it was that one. But Jojo McDonnell somehow butchered the recording technicalities on our first take on Monday, so here we are. Spoiler alert…. It didn’t get any better!

The Carlton debacle is behind us, we mourned and grieved and put it to rest. It’s time to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and head towards the Hawkers. On this podcast episode we preview the clash this coming Sunday.

Without confirmed changes we talk possible ins and outs. Seemingly last week’s team, what’s left of it, is being given the opportunity for redemption but with Hayden, Schultz and Switkowski out, we’re requiring a couple of changes beyond the Fyfe inclusion. It does though look like there will be no Treacy, no Sturt and no Logue.

Hawthorn’s Luke Breust needs to be contained and that job may go to the Conca Truck. He saves his best for Freo kicking 33 goals 7 behinds in his 14 career games against us, a rate of almost 2.5 goals per game.

Peter Sumich has Sean Darcy playing at Geelong next year apparently. Is it as silly as it sounds? We briefly touch on the possibilities and, while it would have us chasing a ruck replacement somewhere, Jordan Clarke would be part of the conversation.

To top it all off the Chief’s Neighbourhood Watch segment returns which may see our hate mail box filled up. Half an hour preview the world could do without but the world is not the boss of us.

Bring the relentless effort and intensity and good things happen. This episode of the Restump Podcast we talk the thoroughly enjoyable victory over the Hawks. David Mundy…. he never ceases to amaze!

The radar was a bit off yesterday but Captain Fyfe set the intensity tone. He couldn’t meaningfully hit the scoreboard but there are plenty of Hawks with aches and pains today who he didn’t miss. Andy Brayshaw copped some negating treatment but fought his way through it, Caleb Serong is a man ahead of his years and someone needs to put a pen in Cerra’s hand and apply a little pressure.

The highly influential job Reece Conca did on Luke Breust was a work of art suggesting the Conca Truck should be in the best on ground conversation. The big Sean Darcy may be right there alongside him with his career best game but David ‘the Milkman’ Mundy probably eclipses both of them.

Sammy Sturt returned, Josh Treacy debuted and together with Matty Tabs we got to see a forward line capable of functioning productively and cohesively. Heath Chapman is a 200 gamer and good ole Tobe Watson…. ‘It was all elementary’ to him.

We need to reproduce the effort against the Crows next week but for now let us all enjoy the moments and bask in the victorious glow. If you can find 45 minutes, book your ears in and click play, your ears will forgive you.

One minute any fan with a pair of boots was a chance to get called up. Next minute JL’s got a selection issue headache working out whom to leave out. It’s the Restump Podcast preview of this Sunday’s game against the Crows.

Our record in South Australia isn’t flash but we’re heading over there in pretty good shape, coming off a hard fought win, ready for the pressure we weren’t against Carlton two weeks back. We’ll try to read JL’s mind on selection, take a look at the Crows danger players and attempt to uncover Tex Walker’s age reversing strategies.

The Chief is extremely confident of victory and believes we might be running into the Crows at the right time but Jojo decided to find a comfortable place on the fence to sit.

We touch on Adam Cerra's lack of a squiggly line on a contract, take a look at the merits, or lack thereof, for a mid-season draft and did we dodge a bullet when Scomo pulled on an Eagles jumper?

We’re heading to the city of churches so we shouldn’t be short on a place to obtain a prayer! There’s 40 minutes of rarely insightful often preposterous purple prattle right here for those who have no respect for their ears.

Well that was something to Crow about. We Chalked up the first away win of our season, banked the 4 points and now sit just out of the eight on percentage. Its the review podcast of the win over the plucky Crows.

Free of a tag Andy Brayshaw hit his top form and at the same time probably booked a date with several taggers in the near future. He wasn't the only one to return to his best though as Luke Ryan revisited his all Australian form.

Tabs bagged four, Schultzy snared two and Jimmy Aish had a day out in one of his best games in purple.

David Mundy is in career best form.... but then again when has he ever not been? Ruckman Sean Darcy is transforming from potential to provider right before our eyes and Fyfey played a great captain's game leading the team in the most selfless of manners.

Jojo McDonnell provides his usual insight and expert analysis while the Chief blows up about losing his bet after the final siren!

We hadn't beaten the Crows in Adelaide since 2015. What a great day yesterday was. 45 minutes of noisy purple nonsense to keep the party alive right here.

There is something quite nerve-racking about being labelled red hot favourites. Maybe its the lesser expectations but it's more comfroting being the hunters rather than the hunted. We're $1.08 favourites to beat North Melbourne on Saturday but we may live to 'Roo' the day if we allow complacency to creep in.

We're previewing the Freo V North Melbourne clash and finally the podcast will contain some intelligence and humour as the wonderful North Melbourne supporter Maddie from Twitter join us.

We have won 10 of our 18 contests against the Roos in WA and we have done so by an average of 43 points. It's a game we cannot afford to drop if we're any chance to play finals this year.

The Len Hall Tribute game is always a wonderful experience and Saturday night will be no different. Until then there's 45 noisy purple minutes right here. (Disclaimer - It may rob you of some IQ points)

It wasn't as easy as the margin suggests but we got the dough in the end. In this episode of The Restump Podcast we review the win over the young inexperienced and rebuilding Kangas.

The mids dominated, the backs were rock solid and the forwards showed signs they're gelling. Just an all in solid team effort across the board.

Say what you want about Fyfey but he's out there leading by example and making a point... well 12 points so far this year. We're a bit nervous to even suggest someone needs to point him in the right direction but maybe he just needs a different point of view. You could say just kick goals Fyfey, its beside the point!

While all the focus is on Fyfe's issues, big Sean Darcy is growing in stature rucking authoritatively and hitting the scoreboard, Maybe Fyfe taps the ball to him? At least it shouldn't prove a point!

Ok that's going too far.... no more tongue in cheek Fyfe jokes, its gone way beyond the point now.

Was an interesting result down in Geelong on the weekend and it makes for an intriguing next seven days. We cover that, the above and all the usual purple nonsense that no one asked for. But if you're going to listen to just one podcast this year.... I'm not sure I'd make it this one but it could be the medical sub.
