šŸ Cricket CA Update šŸ

We wanted to touch base after such encouraging buy-in after the announcement - thank YOU šŸ„³

We also seek to provide updates as required to answer pressing / main queries popping up through the thread or into our PMs.

There sure seems to be a lot of all-rounders signing up...
We have 46 registered users within 3 days, and are yet to advertise to the cricket board or site more broadly! We also anticipate more from the Sweet FA sign up over the coming month.

However, we strongly encourage anyone seeking to sign up from hereon to be a designated bowler or batter!

We currently only have ~30% pure batters and ~20% pure bowlers - we'd like to get that to 40% each. However, there is no need to offer to change your player type at this stage. Please also don't edit your posts - you're already in the sim!

Having 18 of the first 46 sign up as an all-rounder was not anticipated! What do you all know that I don't??

When are team bids due? Is it first in, best dressed?
There is no closing date for bids - yet. Notice of an end date (a week or so notice will be given) will be provided clearly in due course.

Assessment of team bids will be based on the make up and direction of the club - not the order in which the bid was received.

What is the Municipality of Sweet, and how do I organise a ground for my team bid?
We have a community and a sim world which is 24 years and 38 seasons old. If you are unaware, check out the Municipality of Sweet in this thread.

To ensure any Sweet CA is canon (after all, it is here to support the Sweet FA), any team bid will be required to have a home ground that is a:

  • Proposed ground-share with an existing Sweet FA team at an existing Sweet FA ground (club affiliation not required)
  • Proposed use of an existing ground that is not currently affiliated with an existing Sweet FA team, noting there are HEAPS. These grounds can still be named as per your bid!
  • Proposed new ground stadium in Sweet (development space is tight!) or on the outskirts.
If all of this sounds like too much hard work, not a problem! Mobbs and I can assist - just reach out. Remember this is supposed to be fun, not a chore! We will work with you.

What is first-class cricket?
Its the long format! It is not fully determined if the league will be 4 or 5 days. Feedback is welcomed as this thread is monitored (or send a PM for anonymity!) so please do reach out.

What player type is best?
There is no 'best' - the cricket sim is balanced in terms of involvement and statistical output aligning with your selected player type.

The OP of the thread will be updated from time to time guiding people as to which player type is most needed. As this is first-class cricket (the long format!), there is generally less need for all-rounders. We have plenty signed up to date.

Can I select the order in which I bat or bowl when I do join a team?
That will be a discussion between you and your future captain!

Why do we have to wait until the Sweet FA off season?
We have AFL finals on the horizon, and the intent of the Sweet CA is to support and not compete with the Sweet FA. Furthermore, we have a summer of cricket to sync up with!

Please do keep an eye out for some advertised exhibition games though....

Hopefully none of us show dissent like this guy:

If he had middled the ball like he middled the helmet there wouldn't have been an issue!

What do we know that you don't? Maybe that most here have a low tier, social or passing history in playing the game, on which cases they actually DO have a history of both batting and bowling.

Specialisation is more prevalent at higher levels than it is for the general populace.

We're just being honest :D

In that case, I wish the sim has a 'specialist outfielder' player type for me!

Iā€™ll be first slip if we can choose fielding positions too :)
I'm more of a "hey are you like a strange 6th slip or a poorly placed gully" type of fielder.

I remember as a 17 year old being BLASTED by our very experienced and talented captain in A Reserves when four runs went through point/gully area at a catchable height and he roared "YOU CALL THAT A GULLY POSITION?" ... I didn't have the nerves to respond "I thought I was actually at point!"

Unfortunately we cant pick fielding positions int he SIM... and your batting line up is a captains call, so get those bribes ready.

Asking politely, why the disagreement akkaps
The sim doesnā€™t allow for feilding position selection. Unless youā€™re a keeper.

I might have read your original message too straight. Instead of a as a joke.

If their team wants to win, theyā€™ll select me at 3rd or 4th, right Wosh?

Also, will there be a draft? Not sure if this has been answered. Havenā€™t checked back, been a lot happening in real life for me

Was a genuine question, no harm intended as I support this league and a basketball one if this happens also

RIGHT Wosh?

Yes - there will be a draft :)

The cricket will not kick off until the Sweet FA off season (Christmas/January), whilst a draft date, successful team bids, fixtures etc will all be announced closer to the time. For the time being it's just getting users to sign up so we know how many teams we need to approve... and enjoy some exhibition matches in the meantime.

I wanted to create a league using real life players and their averages. I remember creating one years ago. Had drafts etc
I tried to run this a few years ago. No one was interested. :(

Though I did run a international game over covid that just played out the international games. Had to stop due to busy life.

Happy to help set up one up for you, I have formulas, pricing, lists and stats ready to go if you can get numbers

We can try and organise one. Only thing is, for some reason, I cannot for the life of me get the sim working on my PC, even though cats2rise tried to help me with this. Had a working one years ago

Yes, batting and bowling

I'd have to say that if I'd known about it I would have been in.
Something that I can look at later. Currently focusing on this at this stage.

Unless the Cricket board take this idea and run a draft/auction. We just finished a draft on the Cricket Board, which worked effectively and could be turned into a simmed league. Maybe something that could be looked into after the ODI, T20I and Australian drafts are done, with rules more aligned towards it being simmed post draft.

I have shared my ideas around running a CricSim Management League with TheGoatBaron . But it would definitely be something I would take part in as well.
